You've had to quite literally go thru hell fixing this vessel but once it's all done you and your family will be in heaven cruising and enjoying life to it's fullest. My hats off to you young man many would have thrown in the towel long ago but you've stuck with it and haven't quit. You and others like you and Colin really are a true inspiration and a real world demonstration of the strength of the human spirit and what someone can do if they just refuse to give in and quit. I can't wait to see you and your family getting to enjoy what their father/husband/son, you David, have suffered thru and done for them. Fair winds, following seas, safe travels and God Bless...

Thank you so much....it really was incredibly difficult, I don't show a lot of the dark times. The only 2 reasons I didnt quit was because of Colin's help and comradery! And also following through with these videos....i couldn't take a loss and just pack up and go home. How would I ever explain that to you guys??? So thank you Mjr Burn!

G'day David, you're bloody hilarious mate. Your channel is definitely one of my favourite sailing channels on YT. You do a wicked amazing job at editing mate. You definitely make some great content 👍. I'm so glad you got to see your wife and kids. You have an incredibly supportive wife. I wish you nothing but success mate :) Hopefully you can get your Lagoon completed and splashed in the near future. Then you & family, can finally be reunited again on the boat 😃🤗😊. Cheers from Western OZ 🇦🇺.

50 years ago I sandblasted and painted offshore platforms to pay my way thru college. My suggestion for anyone going thru what David and Colin are going thru is to buy a sandblasting hood with a small air compressor. The hood straps around your chest and has an air supply hose that is hooked to the air compressor. This gives you positive pressure inside the hood and keeps the dust outside. The air supply also provides a cooling breeze inside the hood as it blows across your sweaty face and it keeps the face plate clear so you can see.
@david_shih

wait...so then I don't feel like a fish in fish bowl from all that condensation and sweat! Hell yes, where do I sign up? I'll check the ferreterias!

@David Shih Just make sure you put your compressor somewhere outside where it can't suck in any of the dust. OR, see if someone in the area has a scuba hookah they can let you borrow. Those typically give you a better quality air than a regular compressor.

@@david_shih Think air fed mask used by spray painters in panel shops, the cool breeze as you are working is great, you just need an air compressor and a good filtration system on the compressor to remove oil and water from the line (you don't want to breath that either) before it hits the carbon filter at the mask.

You'll be glad you did all the protective gear and post grinding washing ! Leaving some hi intensity work lamps or a heater running while you're not inside hulls should help drying too.. but don't leave unattended overnight for fire reasons of course ! Those squirrel cage fans may be better used as exhausts on one or both hatches in sleeping spaces vs just moving air around inside hull with no escape. That's really the key to drying if you can't get massive AC to de-humidify. Being in Panama, since it's always so humid, heating the air may achieve more than chilling in those conditions. I don't know if they even have them down there, but a leaf blower ( or 2, they'll burn up ) may be useful to blast air through ceiling spaces etc to help accelerate drying too. Happy New Year David !

Hey Mike! great tips on the heat....no access to that so I ended up just running the dehumidifier for an extra week after it was dry...just in case. I didn't want to bring outside air in bc its so wet and humid here. Rains a few times a day as well!

@@david_shih a short story. When my wife and I got married we went on a cruise to the Bahamas . The ship stopped at its private island for beach day. At the beach they had Hobi cats free to use . So I asked my bride if she want to go for a sail and she agreed. So I had to sail off the dock into the wind…..what a sight. Finally a few people pushed us off until the stern cleared the last piling. And off we went. After some time my wife asks if we are able to get back I said sure…..then I turned around and discovered I could only see the tree tops . That’s was scary. Another half mile and we would have had a problem because we had no compass no food and no fresh water. That was the last time in a sail boat until about 2000 when we took a ride on a Hunter340 on Lake Erie . That’s when the wife realized she really likes sail boats. Sorry for being long winded. I sure do enjoy watching your channel and you’ve got the perfect personality for doin great videos.

Happy New Year David 🎈🎊🎆 You are in another level 👍 I’m with you about how the important thing in life is the moments you share with your family. Now some times we have to do big sacrifices to be able to enjoy and go places we wouldn’t be able if we don’t make those sacrifices. What your kids are going to learn traveling and the experience of it, there is no school that can teach that Even do is frustrating to have to do all that work you are doing without being able to enjoy sailing first, it is bringing you the best knowledge about your boat and where things are and how to fix it. Now you know more about your boat than most sailors out there. Is best now than when you are with your family in unknown location and not having the proper tools and place to fix it. Now you only need some time traveling to know more about sailing and how seas behave in different parts of the world, and one of the must important thing is how to understand the clouds to see what the winds are going to do and how to read the changes of the surface of the water to know where are objects or shallow places to avoid. And lastly and most important, learn first aid and if possible do a lifeguard course, since some times you will be far from any help for any health emergencies Thank you for your videos, I really enjoy them 😊
@david_shih
@david_shih 3 жыл бұрын
Wow thanks for all the awesome advice! I’ve got a lot of learning ahead of me for sure. And what an amazing explanation on raising the kids…you put it so eloquently, I’m going to refer people to you from now on when they ask me… “what about the kids, what about school?” The experiences they get interacting with people while immersed in their cultures will be invaluable in my opinion. Thanks so much for the support! Can’t wait to get on the water!
@lifejoy5703
@lifejoy5703 3 жыл бұрын
Lol, thank you but I wouldn’t be the best person to be referred on how to raise kids since I don’t have any experience 🤪🤣🤣 I just know traveling is the best education for kids an adults I do have lots of experience on how the wind works and the ocean behavior since I spent most of my life in the water sailing sport cats , windsurfing, kitesurfing , diving and free diving Now what I need to learn more is how engines work and the electric part too I’m also learning a lot watching your videos on how to come up with tools to make the work easier and imitate your filming skills and story telling 👌👍
