What a gorgeous little roadster. First time seeing one with a hard top as well.

The 124 Spider was designed by Tom Tjaarda while he was employed by Pininfarina . One of his best designs, among many. These Fiats originally came out in 1966, and were made until the early 1980's. The first engines were 1400cc, then 1608cc, then 1800 cc, and finally 2000cc. They all came with 2 bbl Weber carbs, until the last ones in 1980 that came with Bosch fuel injection. There was even a turbocharged 2 liter model in 1981. That fiberglass hardtop is rare and was made by Pininfarina, not aftermarket. The car in your shop has had a lot of tasteful upgrades to the wheels and suspension. I used to own a 1972 model year 124 Spider, which was a lot of fun to drive, and was the last model not to be stranggled by exhaust emissions equipment on the engine.. A very comfortable sportscar, with a great heater and a decent sized trunk, compared to contemporary British sports cars. My car even had one of those Pininfarina factory hardtops.

I bow to you Sir, you are the FIAT Historian! The 1608cc engine was a fantastic revver.

You need short legs and long arms to drive a Fiat 124.

Memories.... I had an orange 1968 and a 1972 white 124 sport spider. My 72 was rotten through but ran. I miss them

Mark, you can use the thermo-fan switch from a VW Rabbit, same temp, same thread pitch, it will work fine. It says 1800 but the engine is 1756cc which they ran until 1978, what a screamer of an engine! In 1979 the 1995cc version of the engine was introduced, longer stroke, not so much of a screamer. I owned a 1972 FIAT 128SL with the 1116cc single cam engine, the funnest car I ever owned, man what a screamer of an engine!

I once owned a ‘69 124 Sport Coupe, which was a slightly longer 4-passenger version of this car. It was beautiful, and a joy to drive.

My wife bought a new '69 hardtop when she started teaching. It was our main ride for a year or so after we married in '71. Great fun to drive, but prone to electrical problems even at that young age. I fixed 3 or 4 broken wires inside the harness under the driver's sill plate by the time we traded it in '72. No idea why wires would break there.

You're not kidding. That is an absolutely beautiful car inside and out. Made in the seventies but definitely has that strong sixties vibe. Bits and pieces made me think ferrari. Saw a lot of these in CA. Years ago. Beautiful restoration or survivor, depending

As a long term 124 owner, I can say that yes that is a lovely car but that skinny cam belt worries me. The belt should be the width of those cam wheels and if breaks the owner will be in a world of pain.

Not exactly related but I had a Fiat 850 sedan with the 903cc engine. Stripped the engine to the bare block & rebuilt it, same with the trans and slapped them both in a Siata Spring, another odd car and it's still driving today !
