I 100% agree, Nick! I finally started posting to my channel which I wanted to start 6 years ago. But life got in the way (my excuse to make me feel better about not uploading). Your channel honestly helped me with everything to upload my first video. I have so many ideas content wise in my head, that it gets really tempting to do it all. But I’ve learned from watching your channel that burnout can become a problem very quickly. I could make 3-4 videos a week but know that I need to iron out the finer details so I become efficient in the process before jumping in the deep end. Otherwise it will get frustrating. Little baby steps is the best way to progress. What I tend to do is make sure to keep a separate folder on my computer and phone where I jot down all of my video ideas, and even start planning those videos by drafting an initial script. Just because I can’t make a video right away doesn’t mean my creativity should stop. This has helped me plan content for atleast 3-4 videos in advance. Now I just need to make the videos. All this note taking keeps me motivated because it gets the creative juices flowing at all hours of the day.
@NickNimmin5 жыл бұрын
I’m the same way. I use Google docs to sort ideas so I can access them from my phone at any time to elaborate on the idea or to add a new one. It’s great for getting ahead on ideas.

I think a lot of people want to focus on Equipment or editing software when starting out. I think a cheap microphone that has good reviews is more than enough at the begin ( I am currently using an XLR microphone with an adapter). There could be that based on speech or software, there may be noise detections, but unless it is a loud sound, viewers are probably willing to give up on excellent audio quality for an amazing content video. I will start using Blender as video editing program since it is free. For thumbnails, I use Canva and I am actually enjoying it. At the start the key struggle is not equiptments and tools but overcoming fears like speaking in front of audiences and learning to structure your content depending on your personality and video branding styles.

There is a leadership principle that Ron Heifetz who used to teach at Harvard taught - identify the adaptive challenge. Your challenges are always changing and it takes wisdom to identify the more important, most salient challenge in front of you and not some other challenge that isn't really all that relevant. Your focus on quality content over pouring over numbers is right on track and keeps us sane! Thanks for all you do Nick!

I definitely spent 30 hours making a video recently between learning how to do editing and green screens etc, and redoing scenes etc. I totally know what nick is talking about with using too much time!!! Should have thinned that out over a longer period of time instead of 10 hours a day 3 days straight after work!!! Good luck to everyone else in the grind!!!

It happens. The important thing is that you learned some really valuable lessons over that 30 hours that you can apply towards your next videos, making them better and more efficient. Nothing wrong with that!

Stanley Orchard you’re absolutely right! And now I’ll be faster next time around as well! Video editing software and after effects etc are all incredibly complex programs.... and I discovered a term called “rendering” while dealing with after effects and let’s just say I made a scene that took 7 hours to render and it was only 10 seconds long.... couldn’t believe it. Great advice here, Nick! This is so true, I'm so glad I settled on posting weekly, because it would be too much to do anything more with the amount of time my other commitments take, and the videos I make take quite a bit of time to edit, even after streamlining everything as much as I can. Holy crap...it’s literally like you made this video for me. I have a family, a career (I’m an entrepreneur and have a business)...I have such a hard time pacing myself. I just want everything all at once and feeling like “why isn’t it frickin happening?!?!” I just started seriously in May by the way...lol. It takes TIME TO GROW.

Nick, this was a "right now" word for me. Preparing, getting gear, planning content, consistency, pacing one's self, etc (like you said) can be overwhelming. But when you said... "Keys to the Kingdom" (as i was mesmerized by that cool shirt too), THEN i felt a peace.

I wish KZbin was more open to the community by actually helping out people in allowing them to make it a part-time job rather than getting people stressed and overwhelming We all have different opinions and needs and so they so should make a lot more surveys which will allow us to raise an opinion by an individual or even an opinion by the community altogether

They provide a bunch of resources like the Creator Academy free of charge, so its not like they don't care about creators succeeding. Remember, they are always open to feedback from creators, so if you do have some solid ideas, make sure to let them know via their feedback form on their website.

This video just came to me at the right time. I feel God is talking to me through you. I got depressed and thought people didn’t like me and my videos, because I put in a lot of effort into my videos but I don’t get a lot of views. I almost quit! Thanks for the inspiration Nick.xoxo

I agree with you Nick, you have to have a good work/life/KZbin balance. Plus most viewers don't realize how much work KZbin is and as a content creator, we have to enjoy it.

Solid advice. As one of those people trying to make content while pursuing a degree and working a job to provide for my family, pacing is really important. There are a lot of things that I would love to do with my channel, but for now I have to be content with a video every couple of weeks. Family and school come first. Thanks for putting this out there.

Completely understand this video! Most thing I've done in life have been self taught and KZbin does provide a butt load of information, this can be very addictive! This is truly a marathon and not a sprint! Love your channel!

Started KZbin about 3 months ago. I now have 50 subs and already the pressure is setting in. Trying to balance it with my other obligations is challenging enough, let alone trying to come up with new video ideas every week. But I am pacing myself just like you said. Sticking to one video a week as to not get overwhelmed. Thanks for the great advice and content that we smaller channels need ✊🏾

Pacing yourself instead of taking on a bunch at once is great advice some stuff can be overwhelming we forget to take time working on stuff and also giving me ideas to start adding more to my videos for people to enjoy thanks for the video.
