This obsession with beauty is killing people, I'm a 19 afro latina girl and I've been so obsessed with looking pretty all the time that there was days that I didn't want to go out cuz I didn't look pretty enough, I even thought that I wasn't worthy living because of how I looked.

I'm struggling with that too, but from what I can see..I think your beautiful..and that's how I honestly think of you..with or without make up..but I understand exactly how you feel..you're definitely not alone..like I said..I'm struggling with my insecurities too..so afraid to go outside because I feel ugly on the outside..even with make up on..I then feel insecure about my weight..it doesn't help that I feel as though, I probably won't find love because of how I think I look😮‍💨 I usally try to fight it..telling myself that I'm beautiful..but other times I'm discouraged again..

I always remind myself that life is short and that it's important to focus on friends, family, experiences.. all our bodies change eventually and we only have this one body that keeps us alive and gives us this one chance called life. Focus on why people love and wanna be with you.. probably not because of your looks but because of so many other things. These thoughts help but I always end up basing my self worth on my looks and then feeling really bad on those days I don't look that great.
@ElinePP

I've been struggling with that for 10 years. Wanting to hide forever , crying when I see a photo of me, wanting plastic surgery from the age of 12. When I explain this to my relatives they laugh and tell me it's not a real problem. To be honest, I know it probably won't change so I'm trying to find other things that make me a valuable person, and find happiness in my passions . Trying not to look in the mirror and ignore my disgusting reflexion ... But I'm alive 'cause I'm more than my body.

Every now and then I find myself thinking "I'm glad I grew up without that!" or "I'm glad that wasn't around when I was a kid"...but stuff like this is so much worse because it effects and affects EVERYONE, regardless of age (or sex or race or any other factor). You can't ignore it, you can't be too old for it. It is there, it is unavoidable, and it is only getting worse. I took a selfie with my friends 8-month-old baby and it smoothed her face! My phone actually had the nerve to "improve" the skin of a baby! It was a built-in setting I didn't even know about!

I worry for the younger generation coming up in the world behind mine (I'm 30, for a reference point). Even though I don't always love my looks, I at least can appreciate that these things aren't attainable normally or even healthy in a lot of cases, but the younger group...they're just bombarded with this stuff constantly. I worry for them, and I hope we can help them navigate it as healthily as possible. Your body is your body. Does it have curves, some wrinkles, some cellulite? Excellent, you are certified as a human, congratulations! I hope we can help both my generation and the younger ones behind mine to understand that as long as you're human, you're beautiful as you are, there will always be someone who will find you desirable, and, most importantly, that being desirable is not solely based on your looks at all. It sounds cliche but it's a cliche for a reason: beauty doesn't stop at the surface, and self love isn't about what you look like.

omg, this is scary! We all know that what you see in magazines and on tv are not real, we know there's photoshop and editing but the whole body/face tuning that East Asia has is on another level! There were SO many times where I'd see a picture of the "doujin" makeup on pinterest and tried to do that make up on myself only to fail, thinking I'm just not good at putting on makeup but now I'm pretty sure it's just a filter! I mean there are people who are really good at makeup (I think, not really sure anymore lol). Anyway thank you SO much for shining the light on this! I can give up on trying to apply the filter with irl makeup!

I love ur content... i actually went thru this years ago with just makeup. i started to HATE the "raw" me without makeup so much that i would often feel depressed after taking my makeup off at the end of the day........ i would even cry sometimes. after awhile, i decided to lay off the makeup for awhile (which i didn't even really enjoy that much in the first place), so that i could re-learn to love my actual face again.... i think makeup is AMAZING when it's fun and you still like urself. but that wasn't what i had been using it for. and that made me really sad. i want to love ME. even if the rest of the world doesn't think i'm pretty. cuz ur ABSOLUTELY right when you say that none of this shit matters😆. but, in the best way. nowadays, i use mostly a tinted moisturizer, mascara and a little highlighter and if i'm feelin froggy, some eyeshadow. lol. and i don't hate my own face anymore. so i call that a win. but that's just me. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for making this video. THIS is the kinda stuff i wish we would talk about way more. Sending 💖

Hi! Do not by any means listen to your mother - you're coming of age and you'll slowly realize that you don't really need to act on other people's opinion of your life and health because you're the only one inhabiting your body, and you will hopefully do that for very very long. Gaining fat naturally in your thighs is great, health-wise, it means your fat is getting stored in a rather ideal and typical place for a woman. Fat in women plays a pretty important role in our metabolism and hormonal regulation. I'm talking energy, stress, hunger, and obviously female hormones. Google it if you want to know more! Your mom's generation listened to a lot of fat-shaming propaganda that science has since debunked! There was an agenda behind that, to sell certain kinds of foods... I'm frankly sorry for her. Of course excess fat can be an issue, but you're literally underweight, that has nothing to do with you. Take care and think of these things for the long run! You're seriously not looking at the final you when you're a teenager.

This video also points out that not everything you see on social media has to be real, i remember going through the "Douyin" side of Pinterest and I saw a bunch of images of beautiful Chinese girls, so beautiful that it almost looked like AI. It made 14 year old me feel so insecure. I had no idea that those pictures were heavily edited, I became so insecure to a point where i would cover mirrors just so i wouldn't have to look at myself and feel disappointed, the idea of taking pictures also seemed like a nightmare to me. The chase for beauty is really toxic in today's world, especially in Asia.

I remember going back to Korean school after I was really sick. Like I wouldn’t eat anything, and anything I did eat I just threw up. So naturally, I lost about 10-15 pounds. My Korean school teacher looked at me and announce to the whole class “Doesn’t Blake look so much more skinnier and prettier?” Like I was already self conscious in the beginning, but that comment made me want to cry. Like how my mom’s side is more conservative, and they were all born and raised in Korea. I remember while visiting Korea they would say stuff about how “We fat ones can’t eat it.” Like, I’m exercising, but it won’t work. I can’t loose weight. I hate it. I really don’t like beauty standards, but especially if kids and teens are pressured into giving into it. All those comments made me want to give up eating anything because I wasn’t hungry. I didn’t have an appetite, so that I could look pretty and skinny like the other girls at school.

“It is better to be happy with what you have than to always want more. Wanting more is like trying to catch the wind” (Ecclesiastes 6:9, Contemporary English Version). Inner beauty. “Man sees what the eyes see, but God sees the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7). The Bible generally does not attach much importance to appearance and physique. On the contrary, for God, a person’s true beauty is determined by his inner essence (Proverbs 11:20, 22).

I appreciate that you say "East Asia" instead of just "Asia" because Asia consists of many countries and now that the Kpop industry and the East Asian culture is on the rise amongst the Western countries, many people when referring to China, Japan and Korea just say Asia, which is generalizing too many countries and cultures into 1. This honestly gives me(a person from the Asian continent) an identity crisis, like I don't come under these criterias but I'm an asian..so where am I in that spectrum?

The fact that what is considered beautiful in Asia, is unattractive in South American countries. Technically, there is no point in torturing yourself to fit a standard. If your intention is to be considered beautiful by everyone, then you're wasting your time. International beauty does not exist. My mother and brother thought Adriana Lima wasn't that pretty. I think she looks like a goddess. Not everyone will learn to appreciate your beauty.

I'm a classically trained artist. 9-heads body, meaning the height of a person equals to 9 head lengths, is not natural at all. It is not possible! The proportion is 7 heads, 8 with really tall people.

yeah it's all fun and dandy while you are inside the app... but you can't fool people irl 😄 😭 it's so cringe with those asian filter trends. it's SO funny, the filter that gives you incredible long skinny legs😄 ..... excuse me are you a cartoon? lol

Something similar actually happened to me. Recently my school took some pics of me for the student card and when i recived it i was photoshopped, my face was smaller, my neck basicaly didn't existed and my acne didn't existed either ( i have big cheeks [since i was born] covered with acne and i'm comepletely fine with it). And for those wondering if i live somewhere i asia, the answer is no, i live in Brazil

I deal with real life body dysmorphia. The only time I ever use a filter tool is when I want to look less sleepy in a photo 😅 I do not alter my face, my skin, or my body. Living in the real world as a Black Filipina who is tall and curvy is complex enough! I’ve seen these video and makeup filters, and they really trip me out. I stay away from that kind of content whenever I see it pop up when I’m looking to try different makeup looks or hairstyles. I try to find creators who don’t rely heavily on filters to create, because that’s how I’m tryna be out here, online and off! I found this video extremely validating. I’d rather work on myself in real life and show THAT in my content 💕

its a big reason im not on many social media. i have never had big issue with my appearance, but everything has this natural filter. even what should be a colour filter, squishes my chin and nose down. it makes me feel uncomfortable. because its like, this is how its preffered. even if i like myself, i find myself to play into it, because, i do find i like myself like that more. but its dangerous, because its not real. so i look in the mirror with a new knowledge, if i could just shave some of these things down, if i could be LESS, i would be worth MORE. which is not true. i love the human form, and its sad we all feel this pressure.

I used to use this app that I think is Korean, and make videos on it when I was really little. (Not for social media, just for myself for fun) Not too long ago did i realize how light it made my skin, and how there was not a single "natural" filter that did not alter my face in some way.

I am currently in Vietnam and oh my gosh the people are all so pretty and lovely in real life. When I exchanged my Instagram with some people and saw their profiles, it really shocked me to see their completely different online persona. In some Hotels I got skin whitening shower gel and the Models on billboards Just don't look human. I hope somehow this extreme trend in south east asia just dissapears..

I just want to say that I have never really struggle about my body, and yet in my 35 I am founding myself with intrusive thoughts about my body, especially now when facing health issues. So yes, it is already in life of everyone and everyone slowly developing body dysmorphia. Because it is everywhere. Thanks a lot for the video, its needed to create content like this.

As someone who is half asian half European, and who has lived in both the west and asia i have been affected by both beauty standards so much it actually pains me. From the age of 12 id remember there were days id cry and thing i wasnt worthy of living because i was ‘fat’ (i had an eating disorder and was well underweight) and because i thought i was ugly, i wouldnt even let myself go outside

I remember meitu from my teenage years, around 2014. I used it A LOT on my photos cause despite being latina I got bullied for being to white (no, not racism, people were just assholes to me) so I tried to fit at least on the asian beauty standard. it fucked me up to the point I don't post pictures of myself online anymore and I fear for future generations dealing with the constant editing and being chronically online

When Zoe said it's easier to edit your required results in pictures than actually work on body, suddenly I got reminded of 1st half of the movie WALL E where everyone were shown to be on their own virtual world. Where they'd completely forgotten about real human connection.

As long as you use this kind of filters and cameras, you'll want to don't show off yourself , don't want to live in a real life and judge yourself for not being beautiful so it leads to stress and other health issues. That's why I think being thankful for who and how you are is the best way to LIVE IN THE REAL LIFE because in this way, you don't judge yourself and spend more time with your family, friends, favorite activities, sport s and so on. I have something to tell you if you are reading this. 👇 Get more real friends rather than subscribers. Be clean. Believe and love yourself. Respect and spend more time with your family/friends/relatives. Learn usuful things. Find out who you actually are.❤

As someone who remembers the first websites created by people at home, the first social media websites… I am disturbed by what it’s turned into. I used to have fun online especially in the early 00s but I’ve stopped using it because it’s just not fun anymore. It’s so toxic on so many levels. I miss the old internet/social media when people were just being themselves and it wasn’t a competition. Where do we go from here?
