One thing worth mentioning about Balahara is that he shines light on a new Guard mechanic (not sure if specific to Lance or Gunlance gets it too?) When he does his constant puke attack, you can guard AND move forward towards him. This shows in the top right as "Stalwart Guard" When you get close to him you can do an attack out of it which seems to have s/you're still guarding. When the attack connects it seems to guarantee interrupt the attack! Really badass feeling stomping towards Balahara blocking his "beam". Since he's the only monster with a "Beam" attack, he at least shows us that future monsters with "beams" will likely use this Stalwart Guard mechanic! Overall really happy with Wilds Lance so far. Definitely took a few hours to relearn the weapon though... But overall it feels pretty damn good

I've also been playing a lot with the lance, and i think you have a few things wrong about it. Every counter it has has a use and the whole kit is built around getting you to the counter thrust at the end of your base combo. You mentioned that sometimes your inputs feel weird and i think thats because the beta is dropping a lot of inputs and the timings for continuing combos are really tight or awkward sometimes. The guard and counters work like this: Normal guard: This is your last second option to defend yourself. It's what you'll be using the most but it's also the safest hence why it does the least amount of damage. Power guard: It trades higher chip damage for also having you deal more damage and maintain your positioning. The more damage it absorbs with whatever attack hits it the more damage your follow up attack does which on average is about 50% more damage in my experience. Counter thrust: Everything in the lances kit is built around you trying to get here as much as possible. A well placed fully charged counter thrust does 120~ damage on Rey's head. (Which for comparison from what ive seen is only slightly less than GS tcs.) All of your other moves are trying to get you there and here's my reasoning. Every thrust type you have has a different speed to it. Your base combo isnt just about what does the most damage anymore. Med thrust is the fastest but does the least amount of damage, high thrust is slightly slower but does slightly more damage barring the final stab, and wide sweep is extremely slow but does the most damage. The point of the different speeds is you can use that delay to delay when you want to start charging your counter thrust to get that big meaty hit so your combo has to be thought of on the fly rather than just finding the highest damage one for best results. This leads me to the triple poke. Triple poke is used for when the monster is staggered, not aiming at you, or otherwise not available for a counter thrust. In terms of damage the triple poke does around 50 - 60 i think? Possibly 70 Whereas a counter thrust that doesn't parry an attack does around 50 damage. This means everything in the lances kit has a usecase, its just gonna take some getting used to to really figure out how to use the counter thrust consistently with all these new changes. I wholeheartedly believe that Lance might now have the damage capacity to match the other weapons in speedruns as counter thrusts can be done a lot more often than a tcs and is safer because of the guardpoint. When the beta comes back up in a few hours I think you should try playing with those ideas in mind.

Firstly thanks for the comment. When it comes to the beta dropping inputs, I cannot confirm if it does or doesn't. While it is good info to be aware of as a possibly, it doesn't take away from the experience so far. Coming onto the guards, I'm not that convinced geting to counter thrust is the goal (as of now), that may change in the future but we'll see. It didn't feel as fluid as the perfect guard, but in the next beta i'll focus my experience around it, and see how I feel. I'm not sure if the reason for the delay is to delay your counter thrust, you can inherently already delay you're attack by pressing the button later. There's a good amount of time to press your next input before dropping the combo. Nevertheless I do get what you're pointing at here. I do agree lance now every option you have with the lance fits a certain usecase, although I haven't properly found one with the Power guard. I'll need to test even more to see what I can figure out with it. Yea for sure man i'll try with some of your suggestions, thanks for your input was great to read.

@@NovaBushidoi did had the input lag and dropped inputs in the beta too, more with Lance and CB for some reason, seems to be inconsistent
@abuthur85820 сағат бұрын
@NovaBushido And thank you for reading it. I'm also gonna keep testing during the next beta and maybe I can prove my theories with a wickedly good time. With power guard the only thing I can really think of is if you want more damage on your basic counter or if you want a 360 guard. The only tradeoff is health so when we can start slotting in guard I think it'll be more useful. Also something to note is you can go from power guard into guard dash If you know you're not gonna get the counter you need? Like if rey Is just flying past you and you're gonna miss your counter thrust anyway. Though I don't remember if you can do that after a normal guard anyway so maybe not.

The biggest question is "What purpose does removing the Counter Thrust input bring to the Lance and with it's removal how does it affect the Lance as a whole? What does Wilds Lance do that Rise and World Lance couldn't? ". It's lacking big time. I'm a Lance main through and through since MH3U/Tri when they first introduced Counter Thrust. Hiding it behind O-O-O-Charged Counter Thrust ain't it. It feels like I'm constantly tripping over my own feet. As someone mentioned earlier the precision, speed and positioning all feel absent. They took out a big chunk of core Lance mechanics and didn't really replace it with anything viable. What I'd like to see them do is pair Insta-Block/Perfect Guard with a satisfying punish to Focus Mode and bring back default Counter Thrust. That way Lancers at least have access to both options. The "accuracy" that focus mode is supposed to provide, the Lance already had. A good Lancer never has trouble hitting or repositioning to hit what they want to hit. Everything that Lance does in Wilds is done better in World and Rise.

Same here. Lance has gone from fantastic and smooth gameplay (esp. with the positive changes made in Rise, but definitely World was fantastic, too) to absolute clusterfuck of me feeling like I'm just learning to walk. @@bluemio7349 Same here, what have they done to lance? Played for 3 hrs last night and it felt awful, I felt like I was back in World playing MH for the first time, having no idea what Im supposed to be doing. It doesnt feel like the same weapon I LOVED in both World and Rise. They butchered all the key parts that made lance fun. Whats the deal with the new counter thrust? And all you get for perfect blocking is that baby shield bash (which is automatic so it doesnt even feel satisfying to pull off), and then payback thrust, which sucks ass? That thing has such low motion value and moves your character like 5 meters forward, I cant even hit anything with it. I really hope Im just completely missing the point of this new Lance and somehow once you figure it out, it clicks and becomes good again. Right now it feels like they got someone who has never played lance in their life and hired them as the lead designer for lance combat. Meanwhile I went to try hammer and it IMMEDIATELY clicked, its the hammer I remember from World and felt satisfying to play right away. So I know its not me/the game itself, its just lance in particular that got fucked over. And lance is basically the only weapon I care about so yeah Im in the same boat, if it doesnt click I dont know if Ill bother playing the game at all. But then there are 5 of us lance mains out there so I doubt they even care. Might as well just remove the weapon from the game.
@Zulban488 сағат бұрын
Played with it for maybe an hour or two and it's almost like learning a new weapon. The window for perfect blocking is *extremely* generous, and not being forced to drop your guard immediately after countering means countering doesn't actually screw you over in some situations. High pokes aren't the end-all-be-all anymore but I still find myself doing them all the time. In fact it almost seems like the retreating mid-thrust is the fastest combo attack? The 'charge counter' that you can do as the fourth attack in a combo is probably the most satisfying counter to pull off. If there was one thing I felt was actually really bad about the new lance in my limited time playing it's that the advancing guards have a really big delay on them now. It's almost as if it needs to let the start of the guard animation play before you actually move, instead of coming out instantly like in previous games.

Im having a existential crisis rn. I love the lance i am a lancer but i didint love the weapon in the beta. But they changed so much that it feels like im learning another weapon, so the things im finding strange may no even matter in the full game when im more used to them, they are: Precision: I find myself missing a lot of hits, and Lance was always one of the most precise. Now you HAVE to use focus mode to be precise, looks likes they made that worse to force you to use focus mechanism Speed: they really slowed down the weapon and recovery animations, I couldn’t be the psycho hyper agressive lancer I always was (that may change with pratice) Positioning: for some reason i had a lot of trouble staying at the face of the monsters, what never happened before. Maybe its specific for the beta monsters, most of their attacks have an angle that makes the head go away from you The sound design: ITS TERRIBLE. The guard has no satisfying sound (like rises) and the pokes sound like you poking a dead bird with a stick. Maybe the elemental ones will be better.

@nekomancer464118 сағат бұрын
@Fissiccisst1 definitely a design decision. But it's still fair to say said decision have detrimental effects thus causing issues. I personally never felt the removal of hit lag improves any "fluidity" besides from the few faster hitting"slashing" weapons like sns and DB. Unless you have like 5 vespid stacked in front of you, the hit lag basically never made any influence on combat flow even in the older gen.

(right now you often overshoot the monster part you actually wanted to hit) Everything else looks amazing: ->I love the new guard points and perfect guard system ->I love the charged counter thrust being really hard to do but also doing insane damage (which is actually our strongest move now. At max charge the double thrust does 140 damage to rey's head, the weapons show higher numbers than the actual raw damage so the Motion value is probably around 150) at 0: 26 kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpKzaYSNd5mopNk you can see it in action ->I love the new sliding and the better turns on the charge ->I love the new triple thrust finisher ->I love the shockwave focus mode attack

Rise felt too jarring at first but it had this elastic sort of aggression where it could snap back into any situation using switch skills and silkbinds that I found very flexible and strong. Wilds feels very light and floaty at first impression but it feels like there's some real potential here that I need more time with the movepool to explore.

When I first started playing Lance in the PS+ beta a few days ago. I bounced off it pretty hard. Especially as a lance main that had about 1000 hours and 1200 lance hunts in MHW/Iceborne. However I'm coming around to it as I'm understanding it better and better. And after watching this video and reading a few comments, I feel like I'm understanding the Dev's design direction with Lance. And I'm hoping it becomes my favorite iteration of Lance. Lemme Explain: They removed counter guard(block + circle) and replaced it with the Block Cancelling. To be clear, this isn't nearly as demanding as Adept Blocking nor as rewarding, but I'm thankful for that, as I hated adept blocking(most cause I'm bad at it). But I think lance has actually come out ahead in wilds even over Adept Blocking. Instead the block cancelling still rewards great block timings, but doesn't punish early blocks nearly as much. Cause even on early blocks, it still allows follow ups, so its still fulfilling the role of the Count Guard, its just a different button now. The Hunker Block(I forget the real name forgive me) now is just Block + Circle, so the route isn't a two step input, it's faster and more reliable to execute in the long run. So there'll be some growing pains of just re-training yourself of what buttons are doing what. Also I agree with Nova, there's a lot of crap to press with Focus mode, Block, Camera Aim, Movement, and attack buttons, if you're not doing the claw on controller, you're probably gonna have a hard time being able to do all 5 at once or on a dime. As a KB+M player, I hunger for the PC beta portion as that will be much better for me personally as I'm not good on controller at all. P.S. Toggle Focus mode setting may be good for those that would like that, consult your MonHun Doctor. Now for the meat and potatoes of what I believe to be the new Lance design: The weapon has 3 speeds, all so you can curate and plan your exact speed to respond to a monsters behavior. This is in both the normal poke strings, but also the block counter responses. And Lance players will have to learn, through monster knowledge and experience, what you can and cannot get away with. Normal Triangle Pokes are the fastest, Circle up pokes are tangibly slower, with Tri + Circle advancing thrust(poke 1) or sweep (poke 2/3) being the slowest. Counter follow ups are the same, Tri is the poke 1, very fast, and quickest to get back to a block cancel, revenge poke(big up hop thrust) much slower, more commitment, and tri + circle will start the stab into lance charge, obviously a very large commitment. The beauty is you can mix and match all these speeds to truly get all you can, or are comfortable with, with the windows you've been given by the monster you're fighting. This is all to say that counter responses and offensive strings in general all can be tailored to the windows monsters are presenting to you. If you're fighting a theoretical Zinogre in wilds (who knows) doing consecutive paw slams, you likely only got time to do Triangle counter responses before you need to block cancel again, but Doshaguma paw slams are slower, and you can get revenge thrusts before needing to block cancel for the next paw slam. And Rey Dau has many large windows off big hits like the carthwheel wing slam, which allow for charge stab responses to re-close the distance from wing to head. Optimal lance play is all going to be about making the most of the time you have. It'll be the difference between the speedrunners who know that X move will allow a block cancel, into a poke thrust into a wide sweep before needing to block again which will be the perfect time to catch the next attack and the casuals(like me lol) who may trend towards just a double triangle poke and then going into a block that won't be perfect, but hey, I didn't get flattened. It allows for more skill expression on the top end without punishing lesser skilled players who want a more defensive and forgiving weapon. Lance has always been the Gentlemen's Weapon. Not flashy. That rewards more calm, collected, strategic gameplay than going full unga bunga. Of course thats not to say Lance's damage output is low. Optimal lance play is OPPRESSIVE. You just do not stop no matter what the monster is doing unless is runs away entirely lol. The weapon that just plows through attacks, allows you to stick like glue to the monster, and never stops hitting consistent precise targeted damage. These changes continue in this direction imo. I think this design has raised the ceiling for skilled lance play, without raising the floor at all, which is a design feat all on its own that the devs should be praised for. To get lore nerdy with it, its like: A rookie lance hunter blocks attacks, A veteran lance hunter deflects attacks. And I think this moveset is doing a lot to personify that sentiment. ...wall of text crits for 10k...Quest Complete

So Capcom is trying to make Lance be a little "faster".

I liked it. Better than rise. Lance, I have about 200 hours of Lance in rise alone and the more I play it the more I find its problems

Jokes on u, I don't like any lance (But I'll give u a like anyway)

Honestly after playing the beta the lance just clicks for me this time around and I’m actually gonna main it. Before I think like with rise for example every other weapon had access to so much more flashy stuff with arts or skills so the lance always fell flat for me but now that all the weapons feel grounded and about the same level of what you can actually do with them Lance is just feeling better and better the more I play it, especially loving the power clash mechanic

Genuinely really dislike the new lance, such a shame.

I like the new lance. It flows so well, and you can counter. The new lance has some pretty high dps combos.

Nah I liked it. Although it felt a bit slow.

What don't you like about SnS? I was planning on doing a Video on it after the next demo concludes.
@pblokkbaybe22 сағат бұрын
@@NovaBushido So I’ll say that i do like being able to reposition after chops, side slash, and roundslash, but you almost always have to roll anyway because you aren’t actually able to turn around while slashing instead you keep swinging in one direction and second another bad change they made in my opinion was the thrust attack being removed from the end of perfect rush now you’re tossed into the air just like if you were to use charged slash with you having to choose between using either falling bash or jumping slash there wasn’t anything added to sns that makes it fun to play i feel like every weapon is the same or better with sns being the only exception some weapons have some sort of gimmick that makes them stronger or more versatile or both even and i mean yea you could do the first two attacks from perfect rush then roll and repeat, but with the range of the weapon seeming to have been nerfed there would be a lot of rolling because you’re definitely going to miss more than a few times.

@@L-Man-Gaming that’s wild I’ve thought about using lance or dual blades because of how they did sns

all i know is that none of the gunners like myself are complaining that i no longer have to waste 100s of 1000s of zenny on buy normal, spread, and pierce ammo or power coating anymore. honestly, the only change that feels weird on the gunner side is the hbg no longer having the should tackle from Rise, but we get a perfect block in its place, so it’s functionally the same. also, the new Lbg rapid fire mode is awesome. shooty bros are gonna be eating reeeeeal good in February. sorry to see some hunters lamenting some of the changes. i tried out SnS, enjoyed it, only to find speed runners disappointed 🫤. and now i’m seeing it with lamce too? it’s too bad to see people disappointed with my favorite back up melee weapons. Gun Lancers seem happy tho, and i count them as honorary gunners, since they just have a gun on a stick, so at least things are good in gunland! 😅
