We homeschooled our three kids through high school (18 years). I miss those days so much. I used to help homeschoolers with choosing curriculum. Homeschooling in NY State was not easy, but definitely possible. So nice of you to share and bless others with such a wonderful resource. It was the best decision God ever made for us! :-)

We are finishing up our second year of homeschooling. I ordered the 4th and 6th grade books. Best decision ever! My kids love it. My son (10) has autism and your workbooks have allowed him to work more independently. My daughter (12) has nothing but great things to say about your books and she absolutely loves the cooking videos. You have really been a blessing to our family! Thanks so much....God bless you.

Hi from the UK. Homeschooling is becoming more popular in the UK now. When my children were young it was quite unusual in my small town, I wish there had been more information 20+ years ago! I have worked in childcare all my adult life and know this would have worked for my two. The internet is a wonderful thing for information on everything!

Very interesting ... sometimes I wish I had home schooled my daughter, but I was always afraid she’d miss out on socialization. It’s nice that you were able to build a community of home schooled families where the kids could interact with others. One thing I DID do with her were all the library extras and reading .. reading ... reading .... best place to learn stuff. Thank you for sharing

Thank you so much for helping families! I also believe in focusing on the basics. Our home has always been lower income, so when my grandmother left me a small inheritance I invested it into things I knew worked for our family: Apologia Science books, Rod and Staff English/Spelling/Math books, and Readers. It has been such a blessing through the years... I plan to add the Robinson curriculum booklist/Vocabulary for our children...and slowly add the books 1 or 2 a paycheck. We are not using Rod and Staff Spelling this year...as we did it as a monthly focus last month with Spelling Power-which I got free😉. I love the nonconsumable textbooks, but I definitely have tonassign work...as it provides more than enough. For us Rod and Staff was a great choice as it is easy to find the books under 20 for math and English...thus 50 a year including the spelling workbook and pass down to the next younger kiddo....so even a large family can homeschool super inexpensively this way to and pass stuff down...because for us it cost us 10 cents a page of bw printing and 25 cents color printing at our library...so printing actually costs us more. You also have super affordable preprinted your curriculum for those like us that printing is an issue. There are so many options to be able to do a great job homeschooling inexpensively. If you have the internet on a computer...not just a phone like me😉...Khan Academy is great for upper maths and Xtramath is free math fact drill focused on where your kiddos are...so much is out there nowadays. Money isn't an issue unless you cannot afford 10 bucks for paper and pencils-then I would hit your areas back to school parties for great freebies! What God calls you to do He will equip you to do...and will often rearrange your priorities while doing it! The fancy curriculums tend to be for history and science...and those are great, but basics should be first.

This would have come in so handy. My kids are 29, 27. Back then it was tough. My eldest did not want to live in a christian home so he was taken by family at 15 long sad story. Any ways, What I did love and was able do pass down and share was Math U See. Could not have survived without it. I remember people back then home schooled in fear as many were being reported and threaten with having their kids taken away. My son graduated at 15 at a collage level. I'm sharing this to help others out there thank you so much, Amy you accomplish so much.

You can jack the font size up (I'm farsighted), And then there is Libby for downloading books on to your e-reader. My brother was left handed. I always notice lefties. :) I can't do cross words, always got annoyed when teachers would make us do them. I can do word finds though, and Doduko (spelling), and logic problems in those magazines.

I am so grateful for your free curriculum! My first grader is thriving with it and my 3rd grader is doing your english. I love the concept of doing the 3 R's and then plugging in whatever afterwards. It makes homeschooling doable and more enjoyable! My only question is how did you write all of this with 10 kids?! I have a store on TPT and I can only produce maybe 1 product a month with only 4 kids.

Something that I don't think you have hit on is the secret blessing in keeping your homeschool simple by using a basics program with classic books...as that is what your program looks like to me, and that is that it keeps mothers from piling on unnecessarily subjects to their plates ( making them less available to the family and making them less efficient in running their home which is a priority as well) and it keeps the children free to pursue what they naturally are inclined to without being overwhelmed...each child needs a basic education, to be widely read, and to have opportunity to pursue the Lord's callings in their life. This also allows you to invest that money into something else if you do have money for fancy curriculum....for a family trip somewhere or regular short local trips. The longer I homeschool the more I see that memories are made at your weekly outings more than with a certain special curriculum. Reading aloud on the couch is so special...especially with your littles.
@berrypatch5583
@berrypatch5583 5 жыл бұрын
I think it is hilarious that after I mentioned the best benefit isn't necessarily financial...at the end of the video you brought up how keeping it simple and then adding is the best way to go. The more children you add to your home the more important it is to simplify everything...so you can spend time with them and accomplishing what really matters.

Funny you posted this today... Last night, my husband and I just ordered your first grade book. It should be here tomorrow! (Our son is 5) Last year we spent well over $1,000 on School curriculum and we found that the fit just wasn't good for us. Not good at all. 😬 We ditched all that curriculum and started making our own and it has made life so much easier. We are actually seeing results because we simplified! I can't wait for your book to arrive so that I can mix it up a little bit. I love that it is the basic skills because will have to test our son when he enters fifth grade.( Here in TN) I think the testing is nerve-wracking for any parent(s) and I will be so happy to have some reassurance that we are on the right track. Thanks Amy ❤

@lyonscubs2947
@lyonscubs2947 5 жыл бұрын
From what I understand it is to be administered by a educational professional from our school district and I believe it is just a standard state test. Here's what I found on our tennessee.gov for homeschooling. However, when I sign the forms for 'intent to homeschool' this year in August I will be asking the district if I can have examples of what the tests are going to be like when he enters fifth grade. It is a long ways away, but I know that time will come fast. "In grades 5 and 7, same state board approved secure standardized tests required of public school studentsIn grade 9 same state board approved secure standardized tests required of public school students but NOT the high school proficiency test" Thank you for your reply, Amy.

I'm sure you can get some sample tests online....they should be pretty standard. No stress you got this. :)

I will certainly be searching many outlets for some test samples. To keep our stress low- we'll just be prepared. I'd be lying if I said it didn't scare me though. I'm really going to appreciate having your books on hand for the next few years! But mostly, I really appreciate your support today! A little bit of affirmation goes a long way for us who are new to the game- but know it's in our heart to tackle this. Thanks again!

Hey Amy! Just wondering whether you have a national or state curriculum you have to follow while homeschooling. In Australia we have an outcomes based curriculum which is mandated across each state.

No each state has its own rules and standards. We have to test every year that is all

How do you account for technological skills? Typing, evaluating resources/sites, research, creating presentations, spreadsheets etc.? I know they aren't required as you said, but do you teach your kids those skills?
@amymaryon

Yes we do..I call them real life skills.. they come with everyday life and what we have to do so we just do them as part of life

I am curious, what list of standards did you use to write your curriculum? For example, if I buy a work text in the store it will have a list of the national standards that it meets. Did you research to see what each grade needs to come out knowing in the end? I have looked at a few of your resources to see how they compare with the things I am familiar with.

Yes i did. :). Used a lot of resources on what your child needs to know at each grade level plus knowing the tests and what they ask...i did this
