I had a fathomless warlock/tempest cleric who’s warlock patron was a leviathan that lived in a rimmed mountain, holding a vast and deep inland sea… that was slowly going dry thanks to global warming. So, he was sent on a mission to strengthen bonds with a god of rain, to petition them into establishing a permanent rainfall over the mountain. It was nice to have a friendly warlock patron who just needed help and really disliked the eldritch profiling that they received. It was also the first time i had a character be devoted to multiple powers, which was quite fun to explore.

One of the most overlooked benefits of the Fathomless Warlock is Guardian Coil. As a Reaction, after you or your ally within ten feet of your Tentacle of the Deep take damage, prevent 1d8, eventually 2d8, damage. Keep in mind the EXACT WORDING: When you or a creature you can see within ten feet of your tentacle TAKES DAMAGE, you can use your reaction to reduce it. It doesn’t say reduce the damage dealt, it says once they take damage, reduce the damage to that creature. This is important, because this means you can choose to apply it before, or after, Resistance or Vulnerability. Be your Bear Totem Barbarian’s best friend.

Absolutely concur with this and Genie being my favorite Warlock patrons. Not even necessarily mechanically (well...yes, mechanically too, but I didn't put your level of thought into it - I just saw "easily transportable pocket dimension" and "ability to breath and survive water's cold and crushing pressure" and fell in love), but just the scope of potential patrons. My current fathomless projects are a plasmoid who's convinced they're a materially-trapped water elemental (patron: Ben-Hadar, elemental prince of water) and an Owlin armorer artificer underwater archaeologist who prefers swimming to flying (patron, requiring DM approval: an ancient topaz dragon, who's happy for a treasure/squid delivery service that doesn't require getting wet).

Fathomless Warlocks tend to cause DMs to rip their hair out. Lance of Lethargy, grasp of Hadar, Repelling Blast, tentacle strikes, all in your Evard’s Black Tentacles. It’s a Warlock cheese grater. If you just want them to hate you instead, use Sleet Storm. Difficult terrain, with 20 feet of movement knocked off, while you push and pull them to the middle of the area, and relentlessly mock them as they lay prone.
@shadowldrago4 ай бұрын
@@nocteexmortis979 Add a Conquest Paladin to stack fear and potentially NO movement on top of that, and a ranged Rogue or Fighter can comfortably pick off the targets from a distance. Forget cheese grater, that shit is a BLENDER.

One thing to exploit, on my table that i dm the warlock/bard did it and we checked and is raw: the tentacle didnt dissapear when the pc falls to zero hp, also, is unatackble, enemies cant attack him, there's no npc chart for it, also is not a spell, so you can just use wall of force (an ally can), summon him on the other side of the wall, and start attacking the enemy each turn, you can encase the enemy on the wall of force ball and just sit down and see how the tentacle start slapping the bbeg to death for the duration On my table, the patron was mr krabbs from bob squarepants and when the pc almost died on the sea, he offer him a deal, 100gp each month as a vip suscription of the sea powers, and with the bonus of a mr squidward to summon (the tentacle), so squidward literally appears, sometimes o the worst moments, like when its taking a bath, to help in battle, and one per ingame month, bob just arrives to collect 100gp from the pc... but imagining squidward slapping a bear to dead is really funny 😂🤣
