While I love the subclass for its flavor I would make some alterations to it, the 3rd level feature and the 17th level could’ve just been a scaling damage bonus applied to the Insightful fighting feature as you gain levels, and the 17th level feature could’ve been something that further helped its niche, and Ear for deceit does become redundant once reliable talent comes it to play so by the level you get it, I would have it have gain some other feature like advantage on that check.

My pallid elf inquisitive rogue is my favorite character for oneshots. I always run her as an insatiably curious person who compensates for being a failed cleric by using her knowledge of how to heal the body to break it instead. It's a lot of fun to play her like she's a cleric while the other people at the table try to solve the mystery of what she actually is.

My PC in another campaign I'm part of is a Half-Elf Inquisitive, with the Urban Bounty Hunter background. He was a former spy for a criminal organization in another country but fled and became a freelance bounty hunter and thief for hire in order to find the person's responsible for murdering his uncle. The best part about this character is that I got to contribute to some fun world-building with my DM for our homebrew setting. I'm a lore junkie when it comes to D&D so I love playing characters that get to contribute to that and be able to explore that very well in gameplay.

Try and convince an Enchantment wizard to enchant your sword to make whirling & humming noises so that you won't have to do it with your mouth while fighting.

I’m playing a literal inquisitor that hunts down mostly far creatures and multiclassed into 1 level of ranger specifically for the favored enemy+terrain. It’s perfect.

The reason why all thieve's guilds use the same Cant is because one rogue a long time ago took the linguist feat and no one ever did again after that, but that one rogue shared their code with their guild....and it was promptly stolen by the other guilds.

My group gets honestly excited when I roll for a wild magic surge and get a one. With a lot of gleefully fatalistic comments about dying a flaming death. It’s even part of the campaign’s beginning; we were crew on an airship, and I was below decks charting a course as the ships cartographer when a mysterious explosion freed the bound air elemental propelling the ship sending us spiraling through a portal. They haven’t been able to prove anything yet about my “alleged” involvement………..

Not optimal, but this is absolutely my favorite rogue. Expertise in insight, perception, investigation and thieves' tools is awesome. A dip into monk synergizes extremely well since the heavy investment into wisdom really boosts your AC

Shout out to Murph from D20 and NADPOD. This is a angry shout out, because he played an Inquisitive to level like 10, and then changed his subclass. He had not invested in his wisdom nor taken proficiency in insight, which means he wasn't using any of the subclass features, and because the next feature was at level 9, he didn't get to have a fun experience. I love Riz Gukgak, but goddamit Murph, Inquisitive is good you just actually have to play the subclass.

This, a few levels of Way of the Shadow Monk, and at least the Superiority Fighting Style if you can't squeeze in some Battle Master Fighter and we are roughly 85% percent of the way to being Batman. All you'll need is the Noble background for the money and connections and two dead parents.
