Ah, Jamaica. Most Americans go there to sit at a resort and down piña coladas for a few days, buying overpriced herbs from their taxi driver along the way (not speaking from personal experience here, obviously). But there’s way more to this country than that, and I had travelled to Saint Elizabeth, far from the tourist zones in Montego Bay, to go find out what Jamaica was really like. And if I was serious about getting to know the place, I knew I had to learn some patwah. Caw patwah a di real language a Jamaica, yuh see me?

Some say it compares alot with Ghana. Maybe because alot of people were brought in from that area. For example Junkanoo, obeah, pocomania, possibly originated from Ghana. Paint jobs are done in similar style as in Ghana. Food cuisine is simliar; yam and cassava brought is from West Africa.

Yeah, it is the locals that we love. I'll ask all my friends where they were born. When it is not here, I'll kick them out. From now on, I will only talk to locals. In local dialect. Like, our fucking locals are the best motherfuckers in the world. Of course that is local dialect, it's how much we appreciate our neighbours.

So excited to see you in my home Tommy 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲. Please try to explore some east coast cities and countrysides as well. Big cities like Kingston and Portmore are a must visit. You can get a real feel of different sides of life in Kingston, from the struggling lower income inner-city neighborhoods in parts of the east and southern parts, to the rich neighborhoods in upper St. Andrew. If you go to Portmore, you gotta visit Hellshire beach it’s some of the best local seafood you’ll get. Also, the countrysides in Portland are breathtaking! My brain is overwhelmed with all the places I wanna recommend 😩. Please feel free to ask for recommendations in any particular region. I was born and raised in Kingston+Portmore but I’ve traveled all over so I may be able to give some useful info. Big up yuhself Tommy, Happy Exploring!

Jamaica is really a lovely place...I would love to go there for a visit one day and have a taste of their rice and peas, and probably a taste of a good weed 😇

I was in Treasure Beach over 25 years ago (Kurt Cobain died while I was there) and let me tell you...it looked just the same as in your video. Hasnt changed at all from what I can tell. I recognize those same exact roads. Getting deja vu watching this. Very dreamy place. I also respect the respect for Blackness in Jamaica. This guy was more interested in talking about his mothers Blackness as opposed to the Whiteness of his father. It seemed like an inconsequential thing for him to discuss his dads skin color but he kept referring to his mothers. In Dominican Republic it would be the opposite, they hate their black side.

Excited for your Jamaica series! Spent about a month there about 8 years ago. Stayed by Braco. Toured the bauxite mining operations. Seen some crazy things.
