First time I watch your content and I have saved/bookmarked this video because of how well it is explained and how much sense you make. Thanks in advance!

I absolutely love your content, swing philosophy and teaching style. Your and George Gankas’ content have helped me immensely. One thing I can add as this is something I really struggled with, is to couple these drills with an emphasis on keeping width in the trail arm at the beginning of the downswing. This helps me shallow the shaft out, maintain good width and ensures that my arms don’t get “stuck”. I love feeling like I am pushing my hands away from my body as I start the downswing, which is another feel you have talked about in recent videos. Again, thanks so much for the awesome content!

Hey jchown! I noticed with your downswing how close your hands are to your body. You are also swinging up. I finally had a young 20ish year old guy point out to me today that I may have been doing wrong for 43 years. He told me you don’t come around with your swing to the golf ball, but up and thru the ball. Hands and arms close to the body on the downswing. Then I was able to get a finish just like the guys on tv. Highest I think I have ever hit the ball with my driver. Not sure if you have any videos of the proper way to swing the driver or not, but just wanted to add what I had learned today from a young guy who has for sure a 100mph golf swing with the driver. Thanks.

This, along with early extension are my downfall in the golf swing. You have explained it so clearly, as you always do. Just watched the 5 pillars of the rotation swing, absolute diamond. Every time I go on the range this is my mantra. The only go”f coach on you tube who puts it this clearly and easily understood. Now it all makes sense. Brill.

I am hopeless with drills and get bored senseless practising BUT the slow arms in the downswing and relaxed arms throughout the swing is excellent advice for an early extender like me. If I employ this I feel like I can clear my left hip first and the arms come after, especially when combined with some secondary spine tilt at address. Excellent video and the conclusion I had also reached in recent rounds. The ball goes further with slower and slack arms. It's just having the faith not to change your mind at the top that is critical!

Have struggled with this issued my entire golf life. These drills really enable the correct behavior/habit when combined. Have dealt with the frustration of hitting superb shots and then hideous followups throughout my life to the point of wanting to walk away from the game. Your explanation and corresponding drills have made a hugh impact immediately to my consistancy( direction, distance, center strike on club face). This is the best analysis and instruction on the issue I've come across. Bravo! and thank you.

Great information. The arms have to slow down, in order to release the clubhead. Conversely : if the arms are moving slowly, like in float loading, it's easy to rotate to quickly in the downswing, whereby the arms get stuck behind. Slow arms require a slow pivot until P7, when all "hell" let's loose!!!

Was watching Paddy Harrighton video and he said if you don't learn the proper grip then all lessons online like thus one don't apply to you. You have to build the swing around the grip. Another great video and I enjoyed seeing that stick drill - not seen it before. Think it will help me as I tend to use arms too much and not enough of the body to start downswing. Can you do a video on combating the shanks as well, as that is creeping into my game and is really soul destroying - particularly when trying to play half wedge shots from 50-80 yards! 😫😫

Thank you so much for this video! I have always noticed that my hips didn’t start the swing like most pros. From the top of the swing, my hand path would be straight downward. I have been trying to deliberately move my hands outward toward the ball. I admit that that has improved my swing but I still think it is incorrect. Do you do remote swing evaluations?

It took years for me to learn that the golf swing does not really involve swinging the arms as much as you need to move the lower body and the hands, arms and club will follow. But it's critical to have a wrist hinge and soft hands. No death grip on the club.

But if your body moves well, the arms/hands must move faster than your body. The hands are on the outer circle and have farther to travel than the inner circle of the body. Early extension or standing up is usually due to golfers stopping the body rotation and the arms and hands keeping going. The body rotation should start the arms moving not only in the down swing but also the back swing.

This will only work for people that are very flexible and can separate. If you can’t and you try this your shoulders will fire with your hips causing a horrible over the top swing!
@jchowngolf
@jchowngolf 2 жыл бұрын
You don’t have to be very flexible to do this. I’m a golfer with cerebral palsy which effects my range of motion in the left side of my body. I can do this movement because I’ve practiced it a ton. With over 10,000 total lessons I’ve given in person and online combined, I’ve never experienced one golfer who can’t separate after practicing properly for a decent amount of time. We’re far more capable so achieve a good swing than we think we are

If you can fight the urge to bury your clubhead into the turf, and allow your lead arm to fall; in a tension-free fashion, the acceleration will come naturally at the bottom of the swing arc. Work on the finish; rather than the strike, you big ox.

Sorry, but this is word salad. The truth is so much simpler: If you (1) concentrate on keeping your GRIP PRESSURE baby-bird light and primarily controlled by the index fingers and thumbs, and, (2) you commit to COMPLETING YOUR BACKSWING by truly shifting your weight to the right side while turning your back to the target, the correct downswing sequence will be automatic. The body won't be able to do anything else. Truly shift and turn onto your right side and try to start your downswing without first turning and shifting back to the left. You can't do it. Keep the grip baby-bird light and try to have the hands and arms take over the downswing. You can't do it. The only other key you need to ingrain is to feel that the hands are still in front of you at the completion of your backswing, not wrapped around you. That means you have actually shifted and turned around your right leg in the backswing. Give as much slack as necessary with your left side to do it.
