Didn't realise they were building one there. Are there any plans to feed and use the waste gas that is collected from the vast waste pits that are nearby?

This is mainline gas for use when solar and wind dips, it'll then fire up to fill the gap. There is already a plant for methane behind Kimberley Sixth Form College nearby.

Reading up on it, it will be designed to provide peak power for a maximum of 2,250 hours per year with an average of 1,500. It will be an Open Cycle Gas Turbine, taking mains gas and burning it with no heat recovery, as although it's less efficient than a CCGT (which has a heat exchanger in the exhaust which uses some of the waste heat to drive a steam turbine), (a) it's cheaper, (b) it uses less space and (c) it can go from off to full load within 30 minutes (which apparently counts as rapid).
