I'm slowly figuring it out. After the video intro, I'm using a lav mic for speaking and a direct line out of my Apollo for the guitars. AND IT ACTUALLY WORKED! 😂😂

Love the D20! I can take it to a gig, and then plug it into my audio interface at home to record. And since its a great pedal platform, I can get almost any tone I need.

I bought a Two Notes Torpedo captor x about 2 and a half years ago. For a dude living in an apartment, it's the greatest thing ever. I also use it live at smaller churches with my Dr. Z. I run the amp (route 66) into the 4x12 greenback IR, and it's awesome. Sound guys at those places are funny, and often confused when I try to explain to them what it is. But you're right about real speakers. Check out some Weber Silver Bells. I recommend the ceramic magnets with light dope. Beats everything else I've tried (Scumback, warehouse, other webers, etc.) for that early marshall cab sound. More throaty growl than a blue, and more top end detail/presence than a greenback with sensitivity being somewhere in between the two. Great "all-around" speakers that still have tons of their own character. Thanks for the comparison!

Love the vids! iv found with the revv d20 and g20. The secret to the best direct tones is to run the master volume all the way up. Especially for break up or crunchy tones. Try it out let me know what you think.

Wow - very well presented. I've been thinking of how best to solve a couple of problems recently - how to get good recorded tones at home relatively simply and quickly (my modeling software which shall remain nameless just ain't cuttin' it for me, and it's anything but quick and simple) and having a second amp to use for smaller gigs and/or situations where I don't want to bring my "really good" amp for whatever reason. The Revv D20 might just be the solution to both. It might not be the ultimate boutique or vintage tube amp tone, but it sounds darn good in this video (I'm a pedal platform guy anyway). With the right small cab and good speaker it could be a great compact live rig, and it's obviously a very good recording solution as well. I've always thought the Ox was "it" but the Revv really holds its own in this example. Thank you Justin!

I just bought a Revv G20 yesterday... mindblowingly good. I am running it through a 1x12 cab with a GWS Invader 50w speaker (basically a 50w greenback).... sounds incredible. I also cannot stand V30s which is what I replaced from my Orange ppc112

Really enjoying your content. Thanks for putting it out there. Have you tried turning off the IR's in the REVV and using it as a reactive load into a plugin for your IR's? I'm curious what that would do to the tone since you could get some higher quality IR's and blend them to taste in the plugin.

I have to say that I was pretty surprised at how minimal the difference was. Since I primarily play live, the OxBox isn’t really a tool that works best for me. Just got my Revv D25 today, so it is getting a workout this weekend. I’ve used a Captor X with my Dr Z, so I’m pretty interested to see how it works out
@Grant_Ferstat

Gotta say this makes it a tricky choice. I've been tending towards the OX after having done direct comparisons with a Captor X and an OX with my own main amp. My intention was to grab an OX and gradually add other amps to my stable to use with it recording. The REVV D20 at the price though makes a compelling case as both a recording solution AND an amp that would work in a ton of different live situations as well.

I play at church every week. They like to use amp modelers for a quiet stage. You think this would work for that? Or any modelers you recommend? Currently using the dsm humboldt simplifier X. It allows two amp models simultaneously in stereo.
@JustinOstrander
@JustinOstrander 6 күн бұрын
I’ve never used that one. The Revv would work perfectly. It’s a real tube amp, but you just plug a mic cable into the back of it. It only models the speaker, cab, mic, and room.

Man your d20 sounds great! I tried out a d20 at a local music store through a speaker cab for just a few minutes it did not sound anywhere as good as yours.. it think it had a v30 in the speaker cab and the d20 was very dark and not very dynamic through it while playing a jazzmaster… I’m gonna go back and try it again through some good quality headphones to hear the difference between the virtual cabs it has in the torpedo software 🤔

there seems to be a real orthodox almost religious adherence to tube amps. Is it really worth all the trouble and expense. Keyboard players have for the most part let go. You can totally do a drum part with loops/drum replacement. Isn't it time to just admit, we're not almost there. We're there. That other 5 percent is in your mind and ego. I like you grew up playing real instruments pianos Rhodes organ, and I didn't learn how to play to be pushing around pictures of gear on a screen😑😆 but with Keyscape Scarbee and an actual Hammond VST it's honestly hard to tell the difference in a blind test. Sure I know you like what you like, but the difference isn't what you hear, it's what you FEEL about what you hear🙂
@JustinOstrander
@JustinOstrander Жыл бұрын
@@ronrobins3513 This is a great point. I don't think modelers are quite there yet with tube amps. There is a distinct difference in air moving out of the speaker into a real mic, especially with a good preamp into a console. But I agree that it is mostly about how I (along with the artist, engineer, etc) feel about it. That difference may be lost on the majority of listeners, but if it inspires me to do a better job, it is absolutely worth it. We're all zeroing in on that last 5% that will make a guitar part, a song, and/or a record stand out.
