Thank You! This will be perfect for greasing my chainsaw front sprocket, which has been seizing up. My Husqvarna manual NEVER mentioned that the front sprocket needs grease and not just bar oil. I know now, but it would've been nice if the manual had mentioned it up front.

I use that little metal grease gun to grease the hammer mechanism on my air impact and right angle air grinders. There's a small check ball that will allow the tip of that small grease gun to plug in. Few squirts of grease will keep the mechanism lubed.

Nice grease guns but I have been using hypodermic needles ( without the needle part ) for 30 years with the same effect. Another advantage of having a nurse in the family.

If there is not a nurse handy, use the large hypodermic injectors that are for injecting flavoring fluid into turkeys, and other meats, before cooking.

That's what I was told at the shop where I get my chain saw serviced. They told me that if you never never add grease, then you never have to worry about it, but if you do add it once, now you've pushed the lube out and you now have to grease your bar regularly. The tech there told me not to do it. He said that it doesn't extend the life of the bar (so you'd notice) over never adding grease. Just don't run out of bar oil.

I have a fitting that plugs into my grease gun and I lube bars with it. MIT stays plugged into my grease gun at all times. If I need the grease gun to grease standard zero fittings, I just pull it out, replacing it when I am through. My grease gun is loaded with Castro fully synthetic EP2 grease. This grease contains moly, so it is black and really hangs in on the sprocket. I put grease in the bar sprocket until it oozes out from under the chain. I wipe off the excess with a shop towel. I use the same grease to lube the sprocket bearings on my Husqvarna saws through the little hole in the ends of their cranks. Since most of my saws are Stihl, I have to remove the sprocket to lube their sprocket bearings. I use the same grease on them. This is a part of my annual PM program for my saws.

I have some of the grease around home which I found about a week ago, and have to put in both of my saws. I have had the grease for about three years or more, and forgot it. It is important to have the chainsaw lubed up good, and I may use some of the grease on my weed trimmer also to lube them up.

Ha. I had a kit with weird adaptors in it. Turns out, it was for a grease gun and one small tip can do the bar! Thanks! PS. I have a Greenworks 40V pole saw. The thing is out of warranty. The support sucks. The saw will clatters when on a load (like 2cm oak branch!). Reviews also said same issue after +6 months. POS. Don't recommend. Grateful to my Bro-n-law for giving me his $700 --13' Stihl gas powered polesaw.

If your Sthil bar doesn’t have a grease hole near the sprocket is it ok to drill one
@rcrepps3949
@rcrepps3949 5 жыл бұрын
Yes drill all the way through so you have a hole on each side. J/K. I have talked to a few professional arborist all of them said there is no need to grease a new chainsaw bar. This was something that was done back in the day when there were manual oilers on saws. I have been cutting tree for well over 10 year and never oiled a sprocket before. I have only replaces on bar, because it was bent.

I was told that you don't need to grease them, since the bar oil lubes the sprocket. And if you would grease it once you need to keep adding grease. I thought this was silly, because they come pre-greased from the factory. Maybe they just wanted to sell more bars. What do you make of this "myth" Don, just grease them anyway?

More harm than good. No way to clear any filings introduced, and we don't know what the inside of the bar and sprocket look like. Just keep your bar oil topped off and that will take care of the sprocket.

I never grease my Oregon bar tips, the bar oil does a very good job of maintaining proper lubricity of the sprocket tip. I greased mine a couple of times in the beginning, however after cutting the bar oil as it heats flushes out all the grease. I realized the bar oil does a fine job. Hence is why Stihl does not have a grease hole on their bars. Its pointless. The greasing of bar tips is a waste of grease and money. Of course anyone who uses a saw via profession knows this.
