Just to let you know, there was an elderly korean who got lost by trekking alone with no guide, and this spurs the debate of mandatory guide, not for guide per se, but making sure all tourist will come back alive. That korean was found eventually, but the damage in local tourism is massive, as the Korean barely alive when found. Even the whole family from korea came to Philippines for the sad event, issues with paid guides? its for safety reason. Hope this info will get you into perspective

That was before when the path wasn't marked and cemented. Now there's one cemented path that leads to the falls. Absolutely no reason for anyone to get lost.

Some guides are not guides. But guards. They're there to make sure you don't get into an accident or don't vandalize something. I suspect the guide to the hanging coffins was more like that. P.S. Lechon is whole roasted pig on coals. Lechon kawali literally means "Lechon in a wok", because it's deep-fried not roasted. Similar spices and similar results (crispy skin and all), but very different method of cooking.

It's difficult to find atm in those places mainly because they're in the an isolated area of the provinces, hence the situation. If you've noticed, foods in Sagada are much more expensive than other places since they basically have to go down the town proper (and that's really really far, as what you may have seen); and for the same reason, their atms are hard to maintain too. If you're planning to explore more small places such as sagada, I suggest withdrawing enough money in the city beforehand. Also, some places (tourist attraction) in the provinces require tour guides so as to watch out after the tourists and to make sure that the place maintains its cleanliness. It's not bad to have the tour guides and most of them are really friendly and if you would allow them, they can be pretty funny too. They tell you history and other stories of the place, sometimes they tell you about their daily lives too. Don't you think it's nice to get to know a little bit of the locals? and you get to help them with their livelihoods too! :) Most of them are not only tour guides, but also farmers. It's like a double shift-- or probably more like a part time job. They farm on certain days and do tour guides on others so please consider them too :) I hope you don't take it in a bad way! Thanks for exploring the Philippines! Can't wait for your next content 🤙🏻

even though my friends and i didn’t need a guide in some of the places we hiked like Banaue Rice Terraces.. the guides are there - just in case of accidents, like getting bit by a snake or slipping and falling off a slippery edge.. that person should be equipped with an emergency backpack as well as a local contact for emergency rescue. we ask for identification as well as credentials before booking one.
@pde126606 жыл бұрын
We went there also! Such a great and memorable experienced . The fall, the caving, the long winding roads. The long hike to the gorgeous super cold water fall are super exciting specially we leave the fall already dark, hiking back with only a little light by the giudes like waking on small path blindfolded.

Been there to Sagada a few years back and I absolutely loved it! Just the bus ride from Baguio takes your breath away as you gaze at the beauty of the numerous terraces that pass you by. You should have taken the cave tour, that's what Sagada is famous for. It was an awesome experience navigating the subterranean passages with an underground river running through the cave. It was a 2 hour journey of fun, the most fun I've had in the Philippines.

Noah, Sagada is my favorite place in our country. You must check these in Sagada: 1. Sumaguing Cave for spelunking...or u may do the cave connection from one cave where you can see ancient mummies inside the jars then come out to Sumaguing cave. 2. Pongas Falls. For me Pongas falls is more beautiful than Bomod-ok. Trekking there is very adventurous...from farms, to terraces, to mountain side...then to Pongas falls. 3. Marlboro Countryside. There are 5 magical wild horses living there and not everyone who goes up there can see them. I am lucky since when i went up there, i saw all those 5 horses. You can also see the the Blue soiled hills 4. Lemon Pie House and Yoghurt House for good food. North Luzon specifically the Cordillera mountain region is really beautiful and too sad not every travellers have the chance to visit there.

Rusty Evolution lol, dont be ridiculous, they dont get taxed for it. it’s the local govt who should do those roads or bridges. the guides are for safety purpose, coz those are remote places, and there are some ghost and engcantos or forest elves that gets the tourist lost in the woods, lol. that very cold Baguio region is famous for ghost stories actually hehe. but if there are other local tourists around, they could just join the locals instead, than pay for tour guides.

I think if you had Filipino friends with you, you may have been able to avoid having a paid tour guide for the waterfall. I have mixed feelings about guides you don't really need. I think they are more like security guards ensuring tourists don't damage and vandalize these natural sites, because there is a small but really evil group of people that watch KZbin videos and photos on Instagram so they can visit those sites to tag them and do other acts of malicious destruction. It happens a lot over here in the USA.
