Thanks for the info. I found you about 2 weeks before my THR. I had my procedure on 8/20 anterior method right side. I’m now 44 days post op. The first 2 weeks were a bit rough, but now I’m back to normal mobility, walking a mile or more a day and pain free. Your info provided me good insights into what to expect.

I noticed at random times or short periods when my hip would give out and then act normal. This was a few years ago, until October of 2023 where my hip was getting worse, I had an X-ray and was diagnosed with severe Osteoarthritis in the hip. So this October 2024 was the total hip replacement surgery. I am in PT 2 to 3 times a week, been unemployed since October 2023 so I am in a hurry to get back into the workforce to start earning money. Or be declared that I have a disability that makes it hard to do my previous jobs. Hoping for the best, because family thinks I am able to be a man and get employed again. Even though I am 60 years old and feel my body is giving signs of other health issues like high blood pressure and diabetes.

Thanks for watching and thanks for sharing some background. I know what you mean about the body giving signs of other health issues, I just turned 57 and feel much the same. Getting old is not for the faint of heart as they say. Getting employment at 60 after being unemployed for a year sounds like it could be tough, so I hope that goes well. Best wishes!

I wreaked my mountain bike partially broke my hip. Walk on it for a week and a half thought it was a bad bruise. Finished the break when I slipped on the pool deck. Still thought it was badly bruised because of groin pain. Went to er surprising my hip was broken . I'm a week post op. Only taking Tylenol and ibuprofen . I wish I could have planned surgery. It would have been nice prep. I'm 62 and had almost not arthritis in either hip. Good videos 👍

Hi, Just found your site and have been looking at lots of your hip videos, great stuff and thanks for doing this. I'm in the U.K., and we do health things differently here. I have had a problem with my hip for over 15 years. I had to give up my favourite sport (competitive team kite flying) which is a bit like playing squash but you're flying a sport kite simultaneously. I've been back and forth to my doctor who tried all sorts of things and eventually sent me to a consultant who said I hadn't been taking enough drugs for them to do anything! They gave me more pills and I went back a month ago when they said I now have advanced arthritis in my left hip and need a replacement. They said this will be in the next 3 months. I have phoned and tried to get a surgery date but nothing so far. I suppose this is because our NHS system is broken but I'm hoping things will improve with our new government. I am 70 and retired and don't have the spare cash to be able to fund a replacement on my own. Hopefully, I'll get a call soon. Back to watching more videos. Thanks!

Hi Doug, Thanks for watching and for the kind words. Competitive team kite flying is a new one to me, but sorry you had to give it up. Interesting what you say about the NHS...here in the U.S. we get differing impressions of the NHS and other socialized medical systems around the world. Of course the pols would like nothing better here as well. Hope you get your surgery date soon!

Hallo! Great to hear from someone in Germany and a good opportunity for me to practice my German. Easier to read and understand than to write though! Did you know I have dual citizenship and had a foreign language minor in college? Sorry you've been having the pain and hip problems. I have a cousin in Germany (near Dresden) who has had both hips replaced in the past 12 months. If you get the level of care that she did, it will be an excellent experience. She was able to spend some time in hospital, then several weeks in a rehab facility getting excellent meals, taking classes on hip recovery, exercising, etc. Can you expect the same? Glad you found my videos helpful. Wish you all the best in your hip journey!

Hello, I'm glad you answered. Your videos are really very helpful. I could have written to you in English, but I can write German faster 😅. My mother is British. I was born in Cheltenham and have lived in Berlin since 1970. Your videos are very funny and refreshing. Thanks again. Greetings from Berlin

Ha ha, yes, feel free to write in German as I am writing in English. Sorry for the delay in replying...we were flying all day yesterday...returning from our 30th anniversary cruise with our kids and I was offline most of the week. Thank you for the kind feedback.

3 months out after total hip replace. still can't walk without cane any thoughts dual mobility implant surgeon has good reputation verified by alternate source implant is in correctly very concerning surgeon says worst case scenario is having to change stem
@Life4116 ай бұрын
Sorry you're suffering. That doesn't make much sense. Why can't you walk without the cane? It's going to be tough to help something this complicated via comments if your surgeon doesn't have any ideas. Do you participate in any of the hip replacement support groups on FB?

Hello again, sorry for delay, I have been on vacation and offline for most of a week. He's right according to my surgeon and the research I've found which was through a very detailed study. It takes fully 9 months for the implant and femur to integrate. The bone inside the femur is known as cortical bone and it heals much more slowly that the six weeks it takes for most broken bones to heal. Please check out this video where I share the research that I found on this subject. Best wishes! kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYSogqd8jsqMqMU

They told me wait as long as possible. I wish I did mine right when they told me I have AVN.

@@Life411 When I did a bit of digging, I found that steroids can cause it. I was very sick on 2017-2018. To the point where I was hospitalized and one of the drugs I was on was 80mg of prednisone. I developed reactive arthritis and had pretty much every symptom possible. I suspect this is what did it. It was a process to figure out what was going on with my hip. They first thought it was sciatica. As the pain progressed, I got lucky with a doctor who found a fracture in the femoral head. I’ve learned that education and self-advocacy are EXTREMELY important. We don’t have to WebMD our doctors, but we should be able to ask probing questions that will lead us to better treatment. This is why I appreciate your channel and your approach to recovery and looking at literature.
@johnnyg58626 ай бұрын
Why would you have done it earlier?
@starbrightinfinity33296 ай бұрын
@@johnnyg5862 A few of reasons: 1) Loss of muscle mass and mobility. 2) Unnecessary to live in pain. 3) Prevent adopting a limp and weird walking modifications to accommodate pain and lack of mobility. I wasn’t diligent about keeping up my strength. I was just trying to manage my pain. I also was an experiencing a big shift for my family (we moved back to the US). I need to work and my only focus was making money. My glutes, hamstrings, and core for weak. I started walking with a limp and that has thrown my pelvis, knees, feet, back, and shoulders out of whack. Pain is gradual and I started taking meloxicam. That helped dull the pain and I kept going. I didn’t realize how much of life I gave up because adjustments were gradual. It was also the pandemic. Now my recovery will be that much more complicated rebuilding muscle and relearning how to walk.
