If y'all end up rating the swords with a standardized system, price should be the tie-breaker for swords of equal performance score. Lower cost wins.

It is deffenetly worth mentioning the cutting capasity/price ratio. The cheap swords for around 100-200 US dollar is expected to be worse than a high quality sword for 3-10x the price.

Frankly they probably need to keep the scores broken out so that you cannot directly compare them. Frankly I am more interested in utility/durability and cost. Other people are probably only interested in historical accuracy to price, and others appearance to price.

For a new video series, you could do something similar to this, but when testing the swords, you don't reveal the price until the end and have the reviewers guess how much it is/how much they would pay for it. Great video! May have to pick up that sword...

Maybe just buy some pork roasts from your local butcher and use that as a cutting medium. It's the most analogous to human flesh (which is what swords were meant for) and, if you prepare properly by putting down a clean tarp beforehand, you can even cook up the pieces afterwards for yourself and/or your pets to eat. Probably cheaper than ballistic gel, which isn't meant for or a good representation of edge weapon cuts anyways, as it's designed for bullets and the energy they deliver rather than cutting and slicing motions.

Well, essentially cardboard is essentially just thick paper, so if you can't find a standard cardboard source, multiple sheets of notebook paper could be used. You can vary how many sheets. It may not be cheaper than a standard cardboard source, but on the other hand, you can cut used homework paper.

I got a question. A modern soldier’s worst nightmare is clearing houses and CQB. How did medieval soldiers clear houses? (weapon manipulation, tactics of it) I saw Daemon try to clear Harrnehal in HoD. He was manipulating his sword similar a rifle when clearing the hallway which seemed silly. I’m a marine myself and like to study how room clearing has evolved over time.

@drvenisporet3395
@drvenisporet3395 Ай бұрын
When it comes to close quarter combat (room clearing or otherwise) it's not too difficult to do it with regular swords. As long as you can stab in front you you can do some damage even in very tight hallways and if a room is open then just use the weapon as intended. If you're using a longsword then you can halfsword it (grab the blade with the other hand) to get it more manageable, so that's not a problem either. The only issue can be with people who use polearms as their main weapons since those can be too long sometimes, but pretty much everyone had some sort of a knife or a dagger or even a hatchet they brought from home so they can just pull that thing out if they get in tight quarters. On the other hand, my understanding is that there wasn't that much close quarters combat in an enclosed space in that period. Armies fought usually in the open and even most castle sieges ended when one side ran out of food or a relief force came to chase away the besiegers. If the castle walls had been breached the defenders would most likely surrender at that point since there is not much they could do (also castle defenders were usualy numerically inferior). If it was an army looting a civilian house, well a civilian or two are not really a match for a group of soldiers rushing in so not much skill or tactic needs to be utilized in that case. So basically don't think of it as modern day room clearing where you must develop tactics to do it very quickly because someone might be hiding in a room who can drop a grenade or shoot a full-auto rifle in a group of soldiers, think about it in a sense that it's a very rare occasion to have to fight in a room in the first place, but on the off chance that it comes to it everyone only has melee weapons and you're still coming in as a group so it's just another melee fight against another group of people who are in most cases already all but defeated.

You can get a much higher quality AR for the price right now. I liked AKs when they were coming into the country and going for like 3 or 4 hundred bucks. Now that I need to pay 1k+ I'm just gonna pick the AR platform every time. The AK really doesn't do anything better than the AR. Change my mind 😆

Hey, I think one of the things you can improove in your cutting rig is to nail a piece of wood to hold the back of the handle of the sword, so it doesn't move as much, because the clamps are not able to hold so much force alone. the way it is right now is inconsistent and might hinder the sword ability to cut more deeply. Looking forwards to see the improoved version either way, the cutting rig is one of the best ideas you had on this channel! Keep it up!!

Shad this is awesome! This video proves what I was saying about the carbon giant sword design in the comments of one of the most recent videos. In that comment I said to design the hilt like Sting from The Lord of the Rings, and this one proves that point BEAUTIFULLY. The cross guard being a semicircle curving upward and the wide blade going into that crescent makes an excellent seat for the blade which acts as a spring to absorb the impact and reverberate the shockwave back at itself to cancel it out. As the shockwave spreads from the impact point it eventually goes into that semicircle and is reflected back like a curved mirror concentrating and reflecting light. When that concentrated reverberation rebounds back into the other incoming shockwaves from the same hit it cancels them out and causes them to dissolve against one another instead of the materials needing to deform too heavily to absorb the shockwaves. In other words the carbon blade will take less damage along the blade because this hilt geometry does some physics at it and counters the shockwaves against one another like a funhouse mirror. Please read these comments and take them seriously! This is absolutely the way to go with the future designs of the carbon giant sword. You may not even need to put holes through the carbon since you could seat the entire base of the blade into the curve by grinding a groove into the inner curve or sandwiching the blade between two halves of the semicircle hilt. This will effectively widen the handle to the full width of the blade without actually changing the handle at all, because mechanically the handle will apply pressure to the entire width of the blade. Damn, I need to get into your Discord and send you a message about this, because I keep dropping comments like this on your videos and haven't gotten a reply to any them in over a year. Seems you got busier than you used to be which is obvious. I mean look at the growth of the channel! 😆
@Will_Forge
@Will_Forge Ай бұрын
The next thing you need to consider is materials. This sword in the video has brass fittings which is a softer material than steel, and that softness can be heard in the difference between a grass instrument and a steel one. So think about the soft sound of a clarinet compared to the sharp sound of a flute. The shape of the instrument is perhaps more important to an instruments sound, sure, but the material changes how that sound is delivered as well. Sound is shockwaves just like hitting something is a bunch of shockwaves. Brass is softer than the steel sword blade, so its shockwave is focused by the inner curve, but that shockwave is softer than a semicircle of steel would produce. It would absolutely not feel as nice if this same sword in the video had a steel semicircle hilt instead. SO! Do you use brass for the carbon fiber giant sword? No, probably not, because you're working with carbon fiber rather than steel. You will certainly have a better time with a brass hilt than a steel one with carbon fiber giant sword because the steel will be many times harder than the carbon fiber. You need to find something just a bit softer than the carbon fiber blade. Think in terms of the blade of the sword being hardened while the core is softer steel to make sure the blade doesn't snap. Anyway, you'll have to experiment with materials to find just the right one. Something springy, slightly less hard than carbon fiber, can hold fast to the handle, is light enough not to add much weight, and of course looks cool. Hard to say. Needs a materials expert to find the right one, or else a bunch of experimentation.
