I've always liked to drive out Kane Creek canyon, lots of varied roads and scenery. The road past that creek crossing used to be narrower and more suited to 4WD, and the creek crossing itself was a little more difficult. Now they've widened and graded that road going south towards Hurrah Pass, it still has a rough surface though. They've also built a lot of new camping areas out there. We drove out there in October and it was a real muddy mess. I've bicycled up and down Hurrah Pass long ago, the downhill part was pretty exciting to me. Somewhere near the top are some "caves" that are supposed to be interesting. You should go down the other side to Chicken Corners. Trying to go south into Lockart Basin (towards the monolith) can be very difficult. I've seen vehicles less than the Bronco do it, and I've seen vehicles better equipped than the Bronco have trouble with it.

My wife and I have been thinking about getting exactly this trim of the Bronco, however, we have a larger Roofnest Sparrow XL RTT that we love but the stock roof rack won't cut it. Can you talk about possible 3rd party roof racks for putting more weight up there? Do those 3rd party options even exist at this point? @JustinBMcBride2 жыл бұрын
I get asked all the time about these. Doing anything like that requires insurance and an on-site paramedic. I know it sounds like, “Nah brah, we just meet up and hang.” But doing anything official with a widespread invite makes it an official gathering for my business (which is my channel) and it gets really complicated really fast. So, I attend the occasional event that is run by larger organizations. For example, I’ll be with Ford at King Of The Hammers, and occasional I’ll catch Overland Expo. But hosting a meet up isn’t anything I want to take on.

@JustinBMcBride2 жыл бұрын
You’re right, the weight ratings on the roof are in those ranges. The tent is the GFC Superlite, it weighs in just around 80 pounds without my bedding, and under 100 with my bedding. I haven’t had two people up there yet, but my wife and I combined aren’t all that heavy, so we should be just fine. The Spare Tire Platform is from from American Adventure Lab. Replace tie rods yet? I'm hesitant to baha speed with those little guys in my 4 door badsquatch. Per a Ford engineer who helped build the Bronco, it's a must do for anyone who may speed on sand or does moderate+ rock crawling. I get that you pack rooftop tent and gear to camp, but do you carry enough fuel for a multi-day overland loop like that one? The Bronco is awesome and super capable, but off-road, the mileage is even worse than on, and with a relatively small tank, its got short legs.
@reeter7D2 жыл бұрын
Is there a vehicle in existence that gets better mileage off-road than it does on?
@fretless052 жыл бұрын
@@reeter7D No, but my point was that the Bronco gets pretty bad mileage and the tank is relatively small, so even in the best conditions, the range is not super long. All of the added weight and off-road gear does make it worse. So, the question was about the need to carry extra fuel for multi-day trips.

What sort of fuel economy are you seeing so far with the 2 door Sasquatch? Any worries for longer trips?
@JustinBMcBride2 жыл бұрын
This is exactly my biggest concern. I get around 16MPG highway and around 13-14mpg off-road. With each fill up I’m seeing around 260 miles total. So off-road trips are cut to around 220 miles. Range anxiety is real, however I have my friends at TrailRax working on a solution that should allow me to carry up to 16 gallons of spare fuel, essentially doubling my range to over 440 miles.

I have now watched all your vids. Here is an unsolicited review for you to instantly disregard 😋 Filmography: Amazing! you really have this part nailed, including music, composition, really everything about the filming process. Gear stuff: I like your reviews, I think you have a good eye for quality gear and I think you set up your trucks nicely. Off-Roading: here is where I think you could use some work. You need more adventure stuff like pony express but with better visuals and trails. Come up to WA state and do the BDR, or Idaho BDR. Camping, and lifestyle: i would echo what a few people on here have said, I think you need some more focus on the camping setup at camp. Camping and living at camp is a big part of overlanding, and I think you need a bit more of it to balance out the driving and also show your gear in action. PS if you did wanna come up and do WA BDR or ID BDR and want a buddy let me know. I overland a Suzuki Samurai if you wanna see a real micro overlander...

Curious, I just had a Jeep, and while there are similarities, I would say some of the “essential” features are what set it apart. Goat modes, IFS, roll cage design with airbag integration, twin turbo engine, 10-speed transmission, factory remote reservoir suspension, and factory 35” tires. The similarities are actually quite common among other vehicles as well, the biggest similarity is the removable top. After that, it has 4 wheel drive in hi and lo, offers a disconnecting sway bar, includes seats and a steering wheel… and so on. While you may think it is “essentially a Jeep”, I’m happy to be the one to tell you, it isn’t; it’s a Bronco.
