We want to create a wall frame that is strong enough to screw cabinets to it but at the same we want a solution that makes it possible for us to inspect the inside of the wall any time we want. And that is the challenge for today's video.

We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons.
The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). On the season 4 we sailed for 2 years (exploring the Brazilian coast and part of the Caribbean), we sold our boat and we moved to Europe. The last season we are starting to build a new aluminum 43ft sailboat and a new life.
We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams.

The biggest mistake of all is putting too much weight in and not leaving enough load capacity left for all the stuff you want to take with you , never mind the adverse effect on fuel economy. Many many of DIY the builds on YT you see way too much timber etc. then even tile being put into a conversion, Make everythig as light as possible , but of course needs to be strong enough to take the vibration from rough roads without shaking your cabinets apart etc.

I used Fastmounts for my van panels.... it was very time consuming. I've been a contractor for over 20 years that specializes in high end residential interiors. Even with my skill set and access to tools..... my van build took a long time and I found it to be challenging. I was also suprised at how much it cost to build a nice van. Great job...... We didn't have the material to show the entire solution yet. Were the clips are installed we will have a adesive foam strip that will me compressed by the wall and we strongly believe that will avoid any noise. But as most of the projects on the van this is a test to know if we want to use the solution in our main and much bigger project, the boat, It's much better to make a mistake (if that ends up being the case) in a small van than in the boat. 😅 But to be honest we don't believe that is the case. 🥰

We wish. In a way you can say that the van is a way of learning the trades but at the same time raising founds for our main project, the boat. The van is a way to keep having content in our channel(that is our main income) during the development of our boat project, save money as we can stay in the van in the future, and when ever necessary we can sell and put the money back into the boat. One of the reasons we are trying to build the van as good as we can is so we can have good value when we sell to put the money towards the boat when we get too short on money. About tool, we will build the interior of a 43ft sailboat ourselves, and to do that with bad tools is a really bad idea in our rumble opinion. We are lucky some amazing companies see value in what we do and provide great tools and materials for us to use, like Sika, Kreg, Piher, Fastmount and we are really thankful for that. Other unfortunately we never had an answer from them. Like Bosch that we contact many many time but we gave up and bought everything our selves as we like their products and been using for years. So by the videos you might thing we are sponsored by Bosch by the amount of Bosch tools we own but we are not, we payed for everything unfortunately.

Mind you, in a camper van the more free parts there are, the more noise there is when driving! If a part can move 1mm initially, after 5000 km, it will move 2mm. The parts must be fixed or glued as much as possible. I find that your way of insulating wastes a lot of space, and as the Renault van is not the largest (Fiat Peugeot Citren do better), you will have a very narrow living space, and with the baby, it will be too small! The solutions chosen by most van fitters in France (there are many!) are probably the result of long experience: could they be wrong? Good luck in your experimentation!

I think you are kind of overthinking the van wall problem. Since your van is no boat (and thus will not sink) you can simply park the van and search for the leak on the outside. (if the rare case happens that there would be a leak.) A leak on the van is simply not critical.

Forgive the question if you have covered the reason. But why are you building the van to live in? Surely it would be better to live where you are, or any other dwelling, especially with Roberta being pregnant.

That is a tricky question. Since we arrive in France we planned to rent a big workshop that fits the van inside so we can live and work in the same place when building the van. And will also make it possible for us to travel with our home when we visit boatshows, factories, other boatyards, etc. At that point we didn't know the baby project would actually became a reality. All of that to say that a lot has change in the past 9 months and our plans completely changed but we are not ready to talk about that yet. No worries that the boat project didn't change at all, in fact in one week from today the boat yard is supposed to start our build full time, 🤞🏼. Also the van is a way for us to keep busy while the hull is not ready and a platform for us to try materials and equipments for the boat. Hope it makes sense.

Hello Franko, we wish we could give you boat updates on our boat build but sometimes is not under our control. The boat yard had shortage of welders this past two months and had to put our boat in standby. They sai they will start the build full time in a week in the 10th of June. If that happens we will have an episode that we have been waiting for months now that is the welding of the different chines of our boat. When we will see the boat looking like a "boat" for the first time, when we will have a better idea of the actual size of the boat. If they actually start when they say they will, this episode will be live in the 23rd of June and from there on we will have videos about the boat while they progress in the build. Filming other boats right now isn't an option as we are like 5 hours from the cost. 😅 Hope you come back in the future. 🥰
