The way people have completely contorted the narrative of this video is honestly embarrassing. No where did I say I was poor, I was highlighting the common belief those who own horses pay for their horses from an excess/excessive level of wealth (think Veruca from Charlie and The Chocolate Factory). I am a middle class 25 year old girl who works 7 days a week making a career in horses to fund my sport (I also buy horses at the end of the road with no where else to go and train them up myself). I have been breaking in horses since I was 18 and have worked my ass off to create a successful business, however the strain of my horses financially is still very relevant, this is something many of us face and was a relatable video to THOSE. For those of you looking to make snide remarks and comments that’s fine but it’s purely a reflection of what you wanted to make of a video to fit your narrative.

@@sage5530 the middle class doesn't exist anymore. Middle class people are poor now, and lower upper class people claim to be "middle class". Actual middle class people can afford neither horses nor a house nowadays, if you sacrifice a house for horses that makes you rich automatically, just not rich enough to have both a house and horses. Even in the 80s getting multiple horses was by no means middle class, now it's being rich, regardless of what you sacrifice to get them.

I do think you can’t leisurely have horses without being rich and more than two. Oh for heaven's sake. I grew up in a rural area and most of the people we knew who owned horses weren't wealthy. How did they do it? They may have had the privilege of having land and/or a family farm (this doesn't mean you're rich), and community. People would help each other. Maybe you had a really experienced relative or friend who knew anything and everything about illnesses and knew how to treat most conditions. Maybe you grew your own hay or purchased it from a neighbor. Maybe in exchange for a pig butchering you built someone a shed. And yes, a lot of people in the last few decades reached the point where they just couldn't make ends meet, and would have to do the heartbreaking but necessary job of finding good homes for them. But I think her point stands that just because you have enough to keep animals, doesn't mean you're a mega millionaire. That is a misconception that a lot of people have, that she is directly playing off of in this video. Clearly she's choosing this lifestyle because she finds it rewarding. Mom worked at Red Wing Shoes for 25 years, and Dad was an ORT. They made really good money together and were barely making it. Got really tight when hay prices got insane. (I lived at their house briefly in my 20's). They drove vehicles they could afford and their house was starting to sink at the foundation. There's definitely a great deal of privilege in being able to have horses. The land to keep them on is already a huge advantage (assuming it's grassland and not dead). Saying that we're not rich does not mean we're calling ourselves poor. Owning horses will rarely allow majority of horse owners to have extra money just left over. Yes horses are expensive. Yes "rich" is more than just liquid money but that's not the point. Horse owners are not rich over half of the time because they're constantly struggling financially and even if they did sell their horse they wouldn't make much off of it. It would not make them suddenly richer by doing so anyways. Besides that, this is just a joke about how expensive horses are.

Girl you have money to spend on horses. They are on your parent’s massive land. I don’t own a home, my car breaks down all the time (and has no towing capacity lmao), I buy clothes for myself once a year, and I eat cheap. I don’t do that because I have horses, I do that because I actually truly don’t have money. Wealthy people get to make decisions as to how they spend their money, and if you have so much disposable income that you get to take good care of multiple horses, you are wealthy. Every day you have the option of selling the horses and using that money to live an extremely nice lifestyle. It’s not a competition, I came from a very privileged background and have a lot of benefits for that that others don’t get so I don’t pretend to have less than I’m working with. As someone said in another comment, a lot of people confuse "not rich" with "poor". A "not rich" person is able to sacrifice some things for the sake of, for example, owning a horse. If an emergency happens, they're probably not going to be happy or able to afford it right away, but if the same things happened to a poor person they would lose everything. I don't 100% like her statements because she's kinda making it seem like she's poor even while owning horses, but that isn't really the reality. @@gameboy008 And what if she is in a different social class? You think that gives you the right to treat her differently? That kind of makes you a shitty person who isn't worth having a conversation with. Whether she's trying to appeal to a broader audience or not is irrelevant anymore.

@@Saimeren because this is social media, and she's trying to sell shit at the chocolate shop. I'm under no obligation to enjoy her treats.

This woman’s career is horses. Because of that she has to spend on horses to make money on horses. I train quarter horses and the amount of shit that goes into it is insane. You even have to shave down their teeth to fit their bridles. In the US our vet charges about $1,000 per horse. Her point in the video is she is making these sacrifices in order to continue her passion which many of us do. Do we see a good amount of money? Yes. Does it go right back into the horses to continue making money because it’s not a traditional job? Yes. Fuckin love instant noodles at this point though

This is the point so many don’t understand about the horse industry!

This comment section cannot fathom that there’s something other than filthy rich and poverty, huh? “I’m not rich” doesn’t automatically mean “I’m poor”. A thing called middle class exists. And middle class is not rich haha

Honestly, people commenting here are crazy. Everyone who earns more than them is "rich". Some people are honesty saying, that making 50k a year makes you rich. Depending on where you life. 50k make you either unable to even rent a room or they enable a normal living. But in the western world, there is literally no area , were 50k total income p.a. make you rich.
