I wouldnt be too worried about that one. he barely fact check these. last i heard the courts had decided that streaming a movie isnt punishable because you dont own the full movie at any one time due to the way streaming works. You know how if you back up too far it has to buffer? That is because it only holds a small part of the movie on your pc at one time. That is the saving grace. Now if you actually download the movie then watch it is another story. If you use a torrent it is even worse because then you are distributing it as well. Ps jaywalking is legal in most of America.

???? I get ripping on how insane it is that pirating is treated like arson but you could picked anything in the world as a comparison and you pick the war on drugs? The last thing we need is to send more young people to jail and prison over the fact that they’re obviously going to experiment. Like what do you even mean, the phrasing underage drinking implies it’s already illegal so you just seem to want harsher punishments for the kids caught. Hell one time in school the cops busted a small party I was at, everyone was around 19-20 except one guy who was 21. The cops arrested him, he went to jail he had a felony now because he happened to be 21. The kicker being he didn’t even provide alcohol to anyone, the underage drinkers bought the alcohol themselves. That’s how stupid serious they treat underage drinking in the US it’s insane. I can only hope you’re talking about one of the many countries where the drinking age is like 14-16. Because the US is already pretty much alone in requiring people be 21, but ya know ship em off to war before they can even drink

Local Florida woman here, the reason why the elephant parking law exists is apparently because in the early/mid 1900's the Ringling Brothers (a circus group) moved into Florida and would literally use the elephants to travel to the store or whatever because they didn't have proper cars - or maybe they just didn't feel like using their cars, I dunno I didn't ask them. It doesn't, this is a rubberband economy. Literally every online startup with their little ads on youtube let you send stuff back, you know why? Because it's literally like a truckload of potatoes, ALL the worth comes form the hope you actually keep coming back and pay SOMETHING, rubberbanded with what you DO HAVE in your pocket. If the taters would run out then F U to the farmers, you have to grow MORE, with generous land tax deductibles that even Bill Gates uses (but doesn't grow potatoes). It backfires on YOU and exactly YOU, if you DO have a real job. Creating raw content is a real job, but most money from content comes from crap like Fair use videos. They pocket ad revenue on content that WOULD count as piracy, if copyright law ACTUALLY was applied. But it isn't until somebody TRIES capitalism. Until then google just LETS you copy stuff from the interent and everyone blames the "big corporations" if anyone ACTUALLY demands their property rights enforced.

What's funny is, as lawyers, we learn "Overcriminalization" which is a term used when lawmakers are claiming things to be crimes when it is unnecessary. It may include criminalization of activities that don't harm anyone and can't or including unnecessary things into descriptions of crimes. I wrote a paper for my professor on how it was unnecessary to include genitals into a description of "Serious bodily harm", because "Loss of organs or their functions" is already included and considering that "harming genitals" is kind of part of a culture in some places and that we have some of the representatives of these cultures in our country, so it kind of goes against our Constitution to criminalize it without expections.

@@TheodoreChin-ih7xz In this instance, it would be overcriminalization because it technically has already been included in that very same article. Genital mutilation involves loss of their function and it is an organ, serious bodily harm involves damage to organs leading to them losing their function (in our criminal code at least), so it's just unnecessary burden And, the thing is, it's still allowed as a cultural thing, if the person chooses to, making such addition genuinely pointless, because it simply doesn't work. It still should be a crime even if the person agrees to harm being dealt to their health, but it isn't in this case for absolutely no explainable reason

I think it's cool how the public is okay with those copyright laws (that would severely punish like the majority of the public) but get upset about much more trivial stuff. an example being, whatever is in the news right now, cuz it certainly isn't anything meaningful. i don't even think it's the news fault, i think people just don't care. Like every government is contantly passing laws that continue to severely restrict our freedom and privacy and no one cares.

I worked at a target, and i know that they do that. I didnt know they did that to customers but one of my coworkers who had the ability to mark down products to clearance prices, thought he had the brilliant idea of marking clearance items down to almost nothing, like pennies. Like, he bought a 50" flatscreen for $2, video games, and dvd's for a penny each, etc., and rather than just fire him the first time he did this, he kept doing it until he racked up over $2k in losses, and then they had the police come in and arrest the kid while he was on shift.

Underage drinking: I was walking up to a 7-11 once, and these two underage kids came up and offered me money to buy them booze. I said, "Nah, no dice, I don't think so." I mainly didn't want to be an adult male giving beer to teen boys. That's not... no. So I said no, went inside and got my OWN shit. When I left, I went a different way. Turned a corner, and the two teens were standing next to a cop car talking to the cop in the driver's seat. It was ENTRAPMENT, and I saved myself by not wanting to look like a pervert. Booyah!

What’s really fun is some crimes expire under statute of limitations. It obviously depends on where you live. Where I live serious offences such as robbery, murder, abduction and sexual assault have no statute of limitations which is a good thing. Minor crimes such as stealing something once 6 years ago will expire. Depending on who you are, you may or may not be a criminal even if you have committed a crime. You just have to wait long enough.
@panickedshears

Sexual assault having a statute of limitations in America kinda gives me the ick. I hate that so much. And I think it’s only like 6-10 years too so like… yeah. Not a lot of time. So if got had a witness to the crime who saw you get abused but you didn’t report it for whatever reason, uh no! No time for the perpetrator I guess.

I'm not a driver. But this year I decided, I should learn because it's extremely useful. I learned all the traffic laws (these were lessons, just like at school), towards the end of the course I began practice lessons. And then I stopped. I saw how people drive, and there is, for example, there is one spot where people, mostly taxi drivers, break 5+ laws at once REGULARLY; it's next to my apartment building, so I pass it almost every day, and they just won't stop doing it! I saw traffic signs which were wrong several times. I know of traffic lights which are impossible to obey (one second for turning on a T-section, yes, you are given a single second). Bicycles? They are a menace to cars, to pedestrians, and to themselves, most of them aggressively don't obey important rules. So I freaked out and I stopped taking lessons 😢 I'm not the most law-abiding person, I'll cross a narrow empty road wherever, I'm not a fan of many rules (obviously, in Russia that's a given, our laws are.. well...). But I am scared of traffic more than ever. People read traffic laws as traffic SUGGESTIONS, that's frightening. And I know that in Russia, especially in Moscow where I live, drivers are better at following the rules than in regions (more cameras; there are plenty of them in every town though), and much better than in Asian countries like Vietnam or Thailand. But worse than in Europe such as in UK.

I was in Azerbaijan (Baku) and into Georgia (the country) for a few weeks with an ex of mine. They really do take the road rules as suggestions! I was used to following the speed limit signs, and my ex's dad exclaimed "What are you doing! You're going to get us hit!" He wasn't wrong, everyone was driving by looking at me like "What is this dude doing?" This was summer 2019 btw.

Americans don't even see our signs as suggestions, they see them as a challenge or think they're above it and everyone else has to follow the rules except them. Especially roundabouts, people love driving in the right turn lane just to cut you off in the circle and the person already driving in the circle.

True, but strange, South Carolina Laws: Horses may not be kept in bathtubs. It is a capital offense to inadvertently kill someone while attempting suicide. It is perfectly legal to beat your wife on the court house steps on Sundays, as long as it's with a stick that is no bigger than your thumb. When approaching a four way or blind intersection in a non-horse driven vehicle, you must stop 100 ft from the intersection and discharge a firearm into the air, to warn horse traffic. You can be fined for not denouncing “the evils of intemperance” on the fourth Friday of every October. It is considered an offense to get a tattoo. It is illegal to communicate with a woman using obscene messages. (Only in Fountain Inn, SC) Horses are to wear pants at all times.
