I’m one of those who left the Democratic Party because of my deep Catholic faith. So I guess I ‘m ‘one of those’ who believes you can’t be a Christian and support the Democratic Party. Especially in this current day. My mother died a devout Catholic and a Democrat, but she couldn’t bring herself to vote for a pro abortion president. What’s the point of staying a Democrat?
@ElizabethDMadison
@ElizabethDMadison 3 жыл бұрын
Me too, I was a Democrat and very involved in it, but after coming back to the Church I realized it's a competing belief system and distanced myself from it entirely. For the Democrats abortion and same sex marriage are non negotiable essentials and they don't accept politicians or activists who dissent from their platform on those issues. But morality comes from God and politics should not be placed first. I don't belong to a political party.

The problem being the republican party isn't much better. Le democracy is a sham. The intensives exist antithetical to the moral good of our society.

@@bbseal6174 it isn’t much better but it’s literally the only option. Democrats have been demonic anti-American, anti-white bigots who worship secular liberalism even over God. They can’t even condemn the murdering of the unborn because all they care about are votes and thus power.

@@vinnyv949 generally speaking, republicans are the same but just better at hiding it. The only policies they ever seem to prove effective at passing regard their Godless economic beliefs. Thats certaintly not to praise the economic platform of the democrats. There are reasons a Catholic might feel somewhat more compelled to either party, but really neither is even nominally good. I myself come from a republican background I suppose, but it wasn't ever really not a larp. The american solidarity party is alright, if you want to check them out. But really the main thing is to not vote for an abortionist, nor someone who would like to abuse the poor, nor someone who pushes secular democracy and capitalism on the few remaining traditional societies. Really theres quite good reason not to vote. Especially in federal and to a lesser extent state elections, with few exceptions. Trump in 2016 seemed to be an exception, but im not so sure now. Nationalism isn't ideal, but its rise has seemed to been a overall pretty good shift in the late 2010's. It seems much more effective to tackle issues outside of the political process - when thats possible.

@@MS-qy4sx Catholic social teaching is directly contrary to capitalism. Look into distributism and catholic integralism . I'm not a republican at all, i don't really consider myself "conservative". I more or less identify politically as a traditionalist. I have positive views of monarchy, the influence of the catholic faith in politics, the reality of ethnic and cultural groups that i'd rather not be corroded, and tradition generally. But more importantly, im not some secret leftist. I'm part of what might be called the dissident right. Basically, the most unifying belief in this political faction is the idea that society should be ordered to a transcendent ideal. For the traditionalist christian, it is God.

Ironically, as a converting Catholic, I'm much more likely to go to the catechism, bible, and church fathers than I am to write my bishop. My bishop isn't one of the worst ones out there, but he probably says things that are against the catechism from time to time. Going to books and figuring it out for myself is my Protestantism talking, but I know for a fact that there are many responsible for formation who need formation themselves.

So frustrating to try to be a faithful Catholic only to see the leadership embrace those who claim to be Catholic while denying large parts of the Catechism. How do we remain strong in our faith with such a lack of clarity and seeming acceptance or public sin?

I’d love a theocratic form of government. I think America should ditch republican democracy for Monarchical theocracy. Unfortunately, as anyone with a working prefrontal cortex can see, regular people are just too ignorant to be allowed to have an equal say in who leads a country.
@ToxicPea
@ToxicPea 3 жыл бұрын
That would be hard to do in a country with 1000 christian denominations, Catholics, Jews, and the nones all having different beliefs, but 'tis the dream.
@Dianadicarta
@Dianadicarta 3 жыл бұрын
That is not catholic, Jesus didn’t come to become an earthly king, He became to save our souls and become Lord in Heaven. That is exactly why many Jews didn’t convert. Also, like history has shown us, political power is never a good path/job for religious people, because religion becomes distorted, power and money corrupts them, that is why religious people make poverty vows.

@@Dianadicarta what in the absolute world are you talking about? There is a looonnnngggg history of Catholic/Christian theocracy going all the way back to the Roman Empire and Constantine continuing right up to the present with Vatican City as it’s own state and The Pope as Head of State. Vatican City is classified as an absolute Monarchy. No one is talking about Jesus in this instance. We humans have to live down here in this fallen realm and proving ground. We have to choose what type of country we want to live in and what form of government and morals we want to inculcate to our citizens. We have to decide how we can both win God’s favor and please Him and be prosperous. Jesus actually talked about obeying Emperors and Kings. If someone thinks a Catholic monarchical theocracy is best suited to achieve those ends (such as I) then so be it. Unfortunately as I do often get into arguments with people on here…..historical ignorance leads me to teaching others instead of having decent debates.

@@vinnyv949 a lay catholic who governs is acceptable and good, but a theocratic monarchy would not be good because: 1)history has shown us that it corrupts religion (like the video says) 2)would be agains free will, because God wants us to choose him freely not because the government makes us. So yeah a democracy based on catholic ethics would be ideal, but not a theocratic monarchy which would make it an obligation -not a choice- to be catholic.

There is a lot of truth in what Andrew Jones states as far as his thesis. However, he states on more than one occasion that the idols, both in the Old Testament and today, are "fake" and "not real". But that is exactly the opposite of what both the Old Testament (Psalms) and the New Testament (St. Paul) explicitly tell us. The Old and New Testaments make perfectly clear that the gods or idols of the pagans are not fake, but are real demons. This inverting of the true nature of idols and paganism fundamentally undermines Jones' work and calls into question how he applies his thesis to both concrete and abstract applications.

I think that the thumbnail is misleading. Pope Francis isn’t condemning the evil political stances of “Catholic” politicians... and he should be. In fact he supports Biden and just met with Nancy Pelosi in the Vatican. Not how it should be, pray for them all

Sorry to say, but I believe Francis is a leftist. How do we turn the tide on a culture when our leaders undermine the truth and they lead a lot of the sheep away from the truth? They are convinced they are acting for the truth.

He as head of a State (Vatican City) met with Pelosi, like any Pope welcomed any politician and celebrity, stop seeing things in black and white, America is not the center of catholicism neither of the world, The Pope has to see the bigger picture and not antagonize and put at risk Catholics neither catholic values that would be crushed to the ground if he antagonized a powerful politician/individual

@@Dianadicarta he’s not endangering anyone by upholding Catholic teaching.. And yeah he is also the head of state but the meeting gives the perception that the two bonded over their “closely held Catholic beliefs,” which shouldn’t be happening considering she publicly supports tearing babies limb from limb before they are born, or even just after they are born

@@luke9747 it does not because it is not the first neither the last time that a Pope has received someone with questionable morals. Us Catholics, and the Pope obviously should be strong and direct in our values (which the Pope is) but also have to evangelize in an intelligent manner, not just harshly and without charity. We will never be able to change the world if we only word vomit the Bible and values, it should be done wisely, like Jesus. Jesus said “this is wrong, this is right BUT welcome sinners, I can help you to overcome sin”. If a Pope becomes cold towards a politician, especially a powerful politician, the only thing that would happen would be to strengthen animosity towards ANYTHING related to us (schools, foundations, families, traditions, etc) which would make it even harder for us to fulfill our duty as Catholics to evangelize.

@@Dianadicarta i definitely agree everything has to be done in charity or it’s not right. And them meeting isn’t wrong if he’s trying to make her change and come into line with church teaching. But i think that’s not what’s going on and it’s ignorant(at a minimum)of the pope to meet with her like this.
