Some tips not mentioned (unless I missed them) 1. Bosses do NOT have a "weakness" in the traditional sense. They have resistance to the element(s) they use but EVERY OTHER ELEMENT will hit them for the same damage, no matter the element. Dual weapons will hit for the full amount as long as one of the elements is not shared with the boss. 2. Mages can be wiped out from the map. Every "route" (the place a mage spawns at) as a limited amount of mage spawns and you can clear all mages on a map, essentially a mage extinction. So don't waste materials early on. Try to have at least two weapons (apposing elements) always to the highest grade you can. 3. You can craft more ammo on the fly, just press and hold the interact button. 4. You can trade in your starting crime item to a specific NPC for an item. 5. When freefalling due to knockback, you can use the grapple to save yourself at any time (as long as there is something to grapple onto). I'll edit this if I can think of more.

You can also perfect-block certain attacks (e.g. normal attacks, arrows) without taking any damage (100% block). You need to block when the attack connects. This block also uses stamina, so do not try this when low on stamina.

@@michaelmitchel3471 It used to be that if you killed a mage enough times it eventually stopped spawning. They introduced an item that allows mages to come back so don't worry about it.

@@michaelmitchel3471 yes this can happen as you kill mages and you level up. Just going based of experience here but don't get caught with a bunch of low level weapons and all your mages high level. Make sure you keep the level of at least one weapon at the level of the mages that are appearing. Which is why I suggested keeping focus on two weapons with different elements.

When your having a boss fight or another mage hunt, for the first time, you should observe its attack patterns and look for windows to attack. Once you memorized them, it'll be a breeze. It usually works in any souls-like games I play.

In souls, we can activate a help in menu to know what does vitality, dexterity etc etc... I didn't find this option in this game. So I don't know at all what the stats do and what to take in the tree... I start as a Sage, I have a basic spell, but I don't know how to unlock other spells and where select them. I don't have any memory slots.

spells are tied to your weapon use the staves and they all have different amounts of spells, to unlock other you need to level your rune reading (forgot what its called)

For the reading thing, I unlocked one and I see a other one called 'divine' something.... But it's to unlock spell based on the weapon? Are there restrictions on using characters in coop that have been used in solo play? For example, I started a game with a friend and would like to farm some salt / gear but dont want to progress too far that it locks out our coop session. I thought you maybe covered this in your review but can't find anything online to answer it. Ty!!

Hey, from what I checked, there dosent seem to be a hard lvl barrier, so just farming salt should be ok, although it might ruin the experience as either one of you will be much stronger and bored of weak enemies (by lvl 30 the fire mage for example is basically a stronger minion, you can kill it within one or two teleports) or the weaker player will try to keep up with the stronger one and be extremely ineffective. That been said, the only actual wall are your exploration tools, such as the grappling hook or the magnetic stone for the rotating lines, you can only coop with player with the same tools, if you or them have the hook while the other doesn’t, then you won’t be able to cooperate! I HIGLY recommend however creating other character with other classes, I have levelled up two more characters to the level I was in my main with my friend, and now learned of the other weapons and my preferred skills and such, the game is still just as enjoyable as each character experience in the map in fairly unique depending on the direction you explore as well as the unique weapons, you will find yourself farming mages that you didn’t care for before and having a different focus for enemies as what is dangerous to you now is different then before! Sorry for the lengthy reply

Okay here's my issue if I start off as a duelist can I still purchase healing glyphs or arcane glyphs and use them. I've tried a few characters out I had the healer and tried to do the arcane glyphs too and couldn't get the spells I paid for the glyph but nothing manifested in my attack what am I doing wrong

I am very frustrated on how they shafted magic in this game. Totally nerfed! You might as well just be a dualist spell sword or paladin with divine. The sage starter bolts are shit and do hardly any damage. I raised arcana only and still do next to nothing. I am only assuming this and i need to be corrected but do i need to upgrade my weapons with the runic ability to increase said runic ability damage? Just raising a stat is pointless. Im upset that a game play style i like is a caster yet a weapon dictates what I can ONLY use.

Regarding counters, if you time a block just right, then yes, an interact prompt will pop up whereby you can reposte. Don't think there's a backstab mechanic.

I never understood why Salt and Sanctuary let you buy the same stat node up to 3 times when the soft cap kicks in well before you buy each one just once

Yeah it is a bit odd. What makes it even more nonsensical is that you get the same amount of stat boosts per point from the corresponding class nodes. So as an example from Salt & Sacrifice if you unlock the Two-Hander class nodes, you gain both the ability to wield those weapons AND 1 point of strength per point spent on those class nodes. So why would you ever go out of your way to unlock stat nodes that only give you the latter? It's basically pointless. On my current playthrough I've hit the Strength soft cap (40 this time around as it turns out) and I did it by unlocking Class 1-5 Two-Hander, Class 1-5 Axe Thrower, and Class 1-3 Thrower. The only strength stat nodes I unlocked were the ones I had to cross through to reach a class node.

@@yewtewbstew547 In Salt and Sanctuary it was useful for min-maxing. If you know for sure you're only going to use a specific weapon then there's no point in going further, especially if the rest of the weapon line is for a stat that your weapon doesn't scale with. I just finished replaying the game on Monday night and I used the Steel Centipede and Flint and Steel, two rank 2 swords that scale on Dexterity. However, swords grants strength, so there was no purpose to continuing with the line. Instead I got swords 1 and 2 and then spent all the rest of my points in Dexterity nodes. I got enough into armor and Endurance to be able to wear some good heavy armor and then pathed to some easy to reach flask nodes, but once I hit 9 or 10 flasks I didn't need any more so there was no point in pathing further. Now, Salt and Sacrifice appears to be a lot more freeform in character building and so I don't know that that degree of min-maxing would be super useful in SaS. However, the game is very new and I assume that a year from now there will be a meta for known best builds. If you're going for a specific build that doesn't need anything other than a few specific class nodes then you might as well just max whatever you want from the regular stat nodes. It will be less wasted levels that way. Again, though, that kind of min-maxing isn't relevant right now when the game is still new and everyone is still trying everything out.

You have to farm ammunition materials to refill the knives. Some enemies drop the materials and others you can mine from tons of places in the game world. The mining spots look like a bunch of crystals popping out of the walls. I like to grind flasks and ammo by repeatedly going from the begging of Ashbourne Village back to the town. There are 2 mining points in the Town as well as one flask material tree. The Village has 2 Flask Material trees one to the left and one to the right.

Salt and Sanctuary: Fun and unique metroidvania Salt and Sacrifice: Some shitty lovechild mix between Monster Hunter and a sidescroller with very little customization and mobile game daily fights. They removed nearly all variety in combat, combos; gone, difference in movesets between similar weapons; gone, mixing and matching weapons with shields and 2handing weapons; gone. Reasons to explore the map no longer revolve around finding hidden items and bosses, instead it's just to find traces of a mage to fight before unlocking the next level. Mage fights are lame, it's the same 16 enemies over and over again, it's just a scooby doo chase to an arena too small to make up for the AOE juggling oneshot combos that inevitably happen. The only fun fights are the midbosses, and there's only 10 of those. How does a company go from making such crazy combat focused games like The Dishwasher and Charlie Murder to this dumbed down snorefest?

Those that sing its praise band together and form the loudest group while gatekeeping those who think differently. These are my impressions after about 7 hours in game, so take them with a grain of salt, but everyone I've seen speak out about the game and not just blindly praising it has claimed the later parts of the game are pretty indistinguishable from the earlier parts which my complaints are about. There've been several people who've mentioned examples of weapons to argue that the combat wasn't changed, but they only mention the weapons that either never had different combos or had 1-2 that weren't changed. When presented with undeniable evidence that the combat system was dumbed down they take the same backpedal approach of "You're wrong but I'm going to be the bigger man and not argue anymore." If you go into this game not expecting it to be anything like Salt and Sanctuary I could see it being a pretty fun game, with some horrible leveling mechanics. If you go into the game thinking it'll be a sequel like how it was marketed and hyped up, you'll notice things missing that made the original unique.

@@ArcheWhatzitGonnaB3 i'll defend the combat. the main strategy is to cause poise damage not so much HP damage. most of the combos did stay relatively the same but you need to mix up melee attacks with ranged and consumables a lot more often. even the parry got nerfed to a perfect block but since both attacking and blocking damage poise you cant just wait for an attack and riposte when they swing.

They should not have called it "Salt and Sacrifice." The divide between Salt and Sacrifice and Salt and Sanctuary is massive -- much larger than the divide between Dark Souls and Dark Souls II. I don't think Ska Studios really understood why Sanctuary gained so much praise from people like me. I genuinely feel duped buying this game, as everything I loved about Sanctuary is gone and replaced with this bizarre, undercooked, 2D Monster-Hunter game.

Magic and/or casting in this game is a far cry away from the glory in Salt and Sanctuary. I feel like i cant even play what i like playing as. Ohh you like casting? Welp there is only one weapon for you and spell does shitty damage regardless of how much you pump into arcana. They also got rid of their neutral class unless it is dualist. I remember a chief class that i played. I might as well play a dualist or something not relying on a finite means to do damage. Thanks. 🙄

Games awesome. Not sure what all the praise is about Salt and Sanctuary. I played the game and it was alright I guess, however I don’t remember a single boss, as I beat every single boss first try without any issue (and this is with a basic bitch dagger set-up, which I later found out was suppose to be the worst weapon type… go figure?). Seriously, I don’t get the hype for Sanctuary. People act like every boss, enemy, encounter was perfect, when the game was just solid at best. Sacrifice is a much more polished game that has WAY better build diversity, WAY better and memorable boss encounters, and actually demands some skill from the player.

I’m almost there with you. Salt and sanctuary didn’t need to be changed this drastically. If they just kept the weapon system basically the same I would’ve been extremely pleased and would’ve enjoyed sacrifice so much more. Also the feeling of exploration and not knowing what boss might be around the corner is replaced with a lot of busy work and no homeward bone item. I have way more criticisms of sacrifice then I do of sanctuary. I adored sanctuary

not a bad video, couple useful tips since I am new players. But why? Why do you have to show fucking 50 bosses, environments etc etc in a BEGINNERS GUIDE? In most cases it means, these players haven`t seen almost anything and most likely they don`t want to see many things. I would be more interested in how classes works, what skills is good or must to have, or can I level up only HP? Not "this will open mostly in end game" ... if I am at the end game probably I dont need beginners guide
