Minor correction, with blocking cost a higher value is better. The idea is if it costs a 100 stamina to block something, a weapon with a -5% will cost 95 stamina while an item thats -25% will cost 75 stamina so you want higher values for both damage blocked and blocking cost. Additionally, you can refund primary unlocks but only in reverse order. i.e., if you wanted to refund Scythe 3, you'd have to refund Scythe 5 and Scythe 4 first.

Lol I was literally coming on here to ask about this because when you said the opposite in the vid I was confused thanks for the video and the correction👍, I'm enjoying this game and for me it just as good as the first but also very very different. I only just played salt and sanctuary for the first time last week in preparation for this game and I ended up looking up to much information and ended up with the Jaws of death which was a big mistake and turned the game into a simple by the numbers affair and everything was to easy which ruined my overall enjoyment of the game. I understand that it is my own fault and I struggle to stay away from Google when I don't understand something in a game but it's that same reason why I an liking this game probably more because I have been learning mostly on my own because the game is so new, which means more exploration and much more challenging bosses.

Cowboy, the amount of help you've given me the past 9-10 years in games is ridiculous. I've played this game for almost 40 hours and had no clue about your first two tips. @FightinCowboy You didn’t mention this during your explanation of leveling so I’m not sure if you know but you can put up to 5 points into the normal stats in the skill tree. So the unlocks that only increase your base stats can be increased multiple times.

Not sure if you were aware Cowboy, but during the mage fights there’s a point where you can actually stun the mages and use your grapple hook to do extra damage. When they are stunned one of their eyes will glow yellow, and if you target it with the grapple it will latch on and allow you to go towards their heads and do more damage. I found out by accident while fighting the first holy named mage. Not sure if this is applicable to main bosses yet

I started playing yesterday and killed my first mage but honestly I am lost lol. So many things, especially skill tree and equipment in general, I finished all from soft games, but these "2d souls" I always struggled and never manage to beat a single game :( I was kinda ok in dead cell, thats it. But this video is really good. This is what I need to understand the basics, most people in "beginners guide" will shop 50 bosses, 20 different levels, end games skills etc.... no I need to know how to level up, how to parry (even I never used it in any souls game :D) etc... thanks, great video

When it comes to increasing Arcana, do you recommend maxing out one to lv 5 or just leave it at 1

When it comes to wether you put 1 or more points into a simple stat node, I'd say focus on getting on in the skill tree first so you unlock the special nodes to use weapons and arts and such. Pumping more points into already unlocked nodes can be good if you know you won't need anything else on that part of the tree, but on most first playthroughs, you wouldn't plan that far ahead I imagine. Functionally, it's the same wether you pump up an existing node or unlock a new one.

I dig being able to refund passives; and keep the unlocks. I do wish there were more weapon types though. Unarmed combat got done dirty.

No it didn’t- it has its own move set instead of just single punches like in Sanctuary and you get more dmg per rank of glove armor you’re wearing, as in rank 5 gloves will do more dmg than rank 1. Not sure if heavy armor does more than light tho.

@@mkv2718 huh; I think the last game I played with glove-related fist enhancement was. . .Oblivion? I'll have to do some testing; but it would've been nice to have a fist-class weapon, if only for the runic arts.

@@mkv2718 after some testing; I believe the combination of a high strength stat and your gloves do effect how much damage you do unarmed. Punching also seems to do pretty good poise damage. However; the damage is real low, even when specialized into just STR and high level gear. I'm gonna need someone to go into deep dissection for this mechanic; as I don't think I could reasonably put myself through fighting any flying mages with the lack of damage and range of a fist only run lol

You've got to try the PvP in current state man. It truly is a jungle - a lot of hidden tech waiting to be discovered. I also cannot understate how incredibly overtuned the invasion rewards are - healh/mana flasks, ranged ammo, firebombs? Aren't an issue ever again. I was level 80 before I even killed the aeromancer. Thanks for the guide! Now, to wait for someone to calculate the pvp level ranges...

I think you had blocking cost backwards. The higher the number, the less stamina it takes to block

Most the Vanguards have a very low blocking cost and they have shields while the best mage staves are pretty high up, in same cases -45% so I'm pretty confident blocking cost is the stamina drained on blocked. In this case lower is better. It doesn't make any sense that a wooden mage staff would block better than a shield.

@@FightinCowboy You can see the difference in the video though. The stave has 45 and it drains less stamina than the reaper at 20. I have a tier 5 vanguard that has 45 and that same fire vanguard at 15 and the 45 is way more efficient. Some rapiers have 0, and I doubt they are the best things in the game to block with

Yep you were correct, the blocking cost is a percentage of how much less stamina it will take to cost. If a hit will do 100 stamina damage while blocked, the -% determines how much less you need so with -25% you only need 75 stamina for the block.

The strange design of the skill tree actually makes it easier to create a build with the requisite weapons and attributes simultaneously. Most Soulslike games don’t help you with that at all. I hope Fromsoft takes notes🤔

Is there any logic behind divine and forbidden glyphs? Meaning, if there any way to know if you're gonna use one or the other beyond checking the weapons you're acquiring and seeing what kind of glyphs are in it?

Holy/Healing is always divine while magic is always forbidden. As for weapons it's a little trickier and there's not any one trend I've found. Early on divine stuff is usually more buff oriented while forbidden is damage but towards end game I've found more weapons showing up with higher tier divine requirements that do dope spells so I think it's ultimately that particular weapon.

so if you go onto the discord i cannot find one other person running builds like this? they are all running heavy armor endurance on every single build in order to heavy armor med roll. right now what you are doing is going full glass cannon, and praying each fight has a window of opportunity for you to win, with absolutely no care in the world for dying over and over and over again on each attempt. this isnt how you play souls games lol, what is the point of pumping light armor, and having a heavy roll? you might as well have gone heavy armor.

Great thing is you get plenty of points to go around. My first run was a Sage and I've reached lv 5 on staves, forbidden arts, channeling rods, scythes, and light armor so you definitely get plenty of points to go around!

So to people who are having a difficult time and think the game is too hard/ frustrating, ESPECIALLY if you are having difficulty finding when to attack bosses/mages- STOP ROLLING THRU EVERYTHING AND START DEFLECTING!!! ….Or rather, only roll thru the boss’s elemental/status attack and deflect (i.e. perfect block) their physical/weapon attacks. Think like Sekiro, not like John Dark Souls. Once you do that the game will become sooooooo much more enjoyable. Edit: you do not lose ANY stamina on a deflect, which is why you need to do it

While the game is very ok by itself, the content is very... ok at best. The bosses are very disappointing. Many feel very generic and the combat with them feels poor. Most importantly though it just doesn't feel like it has the soul of the first game

After beating Cryomancer and farming for his material a 100 times, I uninstalled this game. I wanted a Soulslike or a metroidvania, not a tedious grind. I never played Monster Hunter anyway. This was just false advertising.
