She could be evicted. Court costs for that can exceed 10k. Guess what? If you cosigned for that apartment for her, guess who has to pay the legal bills for that? You do if you cosigned. People do not understand the legal implications of cosigning. Just don't do it people.

The caller said the lady had Section 8 and lost it. Caller repeated it for a second time. The caller states the lady has never worked. So Section 8 wasn't lost due to a change in income, most likely. If the lady's Section 8 landlord went through an eviction and won, that would be sufficient to lose a Section 8 voucher. Perhaps, the lady was evicted and that led to the loss of Section 8? If the lady was evicted something went wrong with her Section 8 housing situation. The caller provided insufficient information as to what led to the lady losing Section 8, so it's all mere speculation on my part. However, losing Section 8, along with other information provided by the caller (disturbing future potential neighbors, etc) suggest co-signing could put the caller at risk of future legal action. ETA: the brother may in fact be a total jerk who doesn't love his sister and takes pleasure in her misfortune. Or,he could be a decent guy, who's tried again and again to help thr sister only to get burned and he's drawing a boundary. Drawing boundaries doesn't mean love is absent. Love doesn't mean being a doormat.

Most women lose section 8 for letting a boyfriend stay with them or getting a roommate and collecting cash. You don't lose your voucher if you get evicted. You get a new voucher and have to find a new place to live.

I was a stay at Home mom with no money in my IRA or any savings of my own, which was scary at 53 years of age. Three years ago I got a part time job and save everything I make. After 3 years, I am 56 yo and have put $9,000 in an IRA and $40,000 in my portfolio with CFA, Stacey Macken. Since the goal of getting a job was to invest for retirement and NOT up my lifestyle, I was able to scale this quickly to $150,000. If I can do this in a year, anyone can

Judy is trying to be the saviour and good Samaritan so bad, saying that the brother doesn't love his sister. Ma'am her parents didn't even trust her 60 year old behind enough to leave money to her directly, they left it in a trust under the care of the brother. There's a reason for this. Judy you're sticking your "Karen" nose where it doesn't belong and you're trying to be this ladies savior, and trying to pull the holier than thou card on the brother; and you'll just end up getting burned. @lonstarrk9308 Agree....the brother probably has very good reasons for not going along with his sister's hair brained plans. He knows enough about his sister to know better.

Or she knows the family and knows he doesn't care about her regardless of whether he signs or not. There's a ton of dysfunctional families where members wouldn't even pause in conversation if they saw a relative on fire.

We Are in Unchartered Financial Waters! every day we encounter challenges that have become the new standard. Although we previously perceived it as a crisis, we now acknowledge it as the new normal and must adapt accordingly. Given the current economic difficulties that the country is experiencing in 2024, how can we enhance our earnings during this period of adjustment? I cannot let my $680,000 savings vanish after putting in so much effort to accumulate them.

Keeping some gold is usually a wise decision. You would be better off keeping away from equities for a bit or, even better, seeking advice from an expert given the current market conditions and everything that is at risk with the current economy.

You have a very valid point, I started investing on my own and for a long time, the market was really ripping me off. I decided to hire a CFA, even though I was skeptical at first, and I beat the market by more than 9%. I thought it was a fluke until it happened two years in a row, and so I’ve been sticking to investing via an analyst.

I don't really blame people who panic. Lack of information can be a big hurdle. I've been making more than $100k passively by just investing through an advisor, and I don't have to do much work. Inflation or no inflation, my finances remain secure. So I really don't blame people who panic.
