Hang in there Sistah. I am 1.5 years on my journey at 65 yrs. I am loving it. Talk to your crown..let your crown know that you love it. Increase your water intake. I drink milk & seems to me it has helped the growth.

I’m 22 years locked. The grey is very pronounced now. Can’t wait until totally salt and pepper like yours. I don’t retwist, always hated the “scalpy” look. I just keep them separated because my hair also “marries” very quickly. I’ll keep following you on your journey!

I just started my braid locs journey and I'm 56 years young. Yes the spacy thing made me feel a bit vulnerable, so I'm going to keep my satin scarf on and my head wrap hat on for a few months to see it's progress, before I do the 'reveal' to my family and friends! Loving the silver look by the way! You Rock! 💗💗💗

I'll be 3 years locked in June and 67 years old in August. I started my journey myself in 2020 (cabin fever in the 1st year of covid) with a combination of interlocks, 2-strand twists and braid locs. Currently 100% interlocking (3-4 times a year) and fully salt and pepper/silver. Don't really mind the "scalpy" look after a fresh interlock; it goes away after 2-3 days. I attribute it to age and change in hair texture. Your locs are beautiful and I'm happy to see so many comments from other salt and pepper/silver lockers! I am subscribing; please keep us updated on your journey.😊

Thank goodness there’s a platform for mature ladies taking the loc journey. I’m four years loced and loving myself more each day, started 2020 having to stay inside covid times, however it’s amazing how much my hair has grown salt and pepper at the crown, shoulder length twist. The grays are really shining through, can’t imagine the resilience to keep coming, 😊but what can I say it’s another beautiful phase The Most High has designed for women. I m staying focused on my journey.

Greetings and thank you for sharing your journey. My hair has been loc'd since 2005, I was 55 and I'm grey. I haven't retwisted for years now. I guess you could say I let it freeform. I never liked that retwisted look so my hair does whatever it wants now.😊 I'm also thinner in the top now(genetics) and less retwisting prevented that "scalpy" look. I'm always happy to see other grey locs. Yours are beautiful and healthy looking an coming along fine. You will start to enjoy them. I will stay tuned. Blessings🙏🏾💕

Sista, your locs look good! I truly enjoyed watching your video. I also had sister locks for years and truly loved them . But, to many retights and the grids got larger and larger. I didn't cut off my 12 year sister locks. I just had them cut short and then combined (braided) 400 down to 52. Now, 20 months later (Jan 2023) I've only had 2 retights ( crochet only), and the spacing is barely showing, I can even add a few more locks with the new growth. So hang in there, your hair will flourish more and more. But it will take patience. God bless you.

Thank you so much for the kind words. I had a similar # of sisterlocks as you and I have 50 of the new locks. I do think that if you retie sisterlocks ev 6 wks as recommended for 20 yrs (I always went longer LOL) in the end it can be too much for your hair and add to thinning. Also my reties always gave me a headache and because I am tender headed I never really complained. Just went home and took a Motrin. Now I know I should have said something. Oh well - I have learned now, and we shall see how I do this time around.

Thanks for you comment. Would love to NEVER retwist LOL but I don't retwist that often really. I'm almost 2 1/2 yrs in now. Professionally about twice a year however with fine hair I was told better to keep those hairs in the loc or the loc will get too thin and fall out so in the front I do light twist about once on month oney on selected locs.

I am 66 and started my loc journey six days ago. I watched a LOT of videos before starting and I have to say, I will listen to most but I am following my own path. Because my hair and scalp are extremely dry, I will continue to use my Shea Butter receipt with conditioner, Aleo Vera juice, rosemary water, and oils as I have been doing for the past four or five years and my hair and scalp love it, my hair grew to waist length. I will also continue to mist my hair daily with Aleo Vera, rosemary water, and oils. I think I will do my first retwist in six to eight weeks, I have very fine dense hair and don't like seeing the scalp either. I didn't part my locs, I only use my fingers to do the parting and I am happy I did them this way because very little scalp is showing. Because my hair is so long, I am not looking forward to the shrinkage lol! But I understand it is part of the journey. I love your salt and pepper hair and I agree, each person needs to do what is best for them, follow their own mind, and listen to their own hair for no two are alike, good luck on your journey, and thanks for sharing.

I am 63 years old and May 29, 2023, will be 4 years dreadlocks ( there is a biographical book regarding Bob Marley, "Catch A Fire") Dread is upon those seeing the dreadlocks. Sorry, I got off topic, I only knew of Shimmering Lights but I was warned not to let it stay in too long as it will leave you with purple hair. Last year I searched for a violet-based shampoo (I think the name is Purple or Blue Shampoo). It "cleanses to brighten your hair". However, I just found out about Cantu Yellow out. I will try next week when I wash my dreadlocks.

@@BonitaSPerry Thank you. Looked up the book. Do you recommend it??? I like Bob Marley but have never read a book about or one by him. Also thanks for the shampoo tip. I will check it out. I have been using Pantene purple shampoo as I gave up Shimmering Lights about 4 yrs ago when I still had my Sisterlocks. I only use Pantene periodically. I make it a habit of not using any other products that are dark, like Jamaican Black Caster Oil - I only use the clear castor oil. I have never had any purple color remain in my hair altho I just might like it if it did LOL BTW I follow a reggae group called Katchafire.

@Silver Sistahs Natural Gray Hair Type 4 Yes, I do recommend reading Catch A Fire ( be shocked by how many....) Pantene. I tried that when I loose nature. Thank you for reminding me about it. I had no problems with it.

Yes, it was a very sad day for my gray hair and me when we looked at the Castor oil in the little eye drops tube and saw how yellowish the color is. You said you use clear Castor oil. Do you know if it is available at any beauty supplies store or via the Internet? I need the Castor oil back so desperately.

Your hair is beautiful, yes please don’t twist so tight that’s also pulling and causing thinning wait 2-3 months and wrap the hair around the bottom of the loc and don’t twist down the length of your locs. I hope your journey has been much more pleasant and wish you all the best 🙂
