People are so interested! I did the "GO PIXIE" method. I wanted to start at 27 but got SO MUCH PUSH BACK FROM FAMILY. 27 years later ..... FEB 2020 MEeee too. Then one back step and re-do Feb 2021.. free after that!!! Thanks for sharing 💜 My Grey was so much darker just a couple years ago. Such a fun and interesting journey.

SO interesting. I was coloring my hair every 6 weeks by 27, so I totally understand. It would not have been encouraged for me either. The Pixie Cut method is amazing--so much faster and so chic.

Beth, I am forever grateful to you for sharing your story. I am not sure if I found you on IG or KZbin - does not matter - you spoke to me and it gave me strength to transition to grey. I started by growing out about 2 inches, and then I had my stylist do a heavy ash blonde highlight. I was a warm brown/auburn, and the first step was going cool. I loved that ash blonde and grey and looked better than I had in years - that was my sign I was going in the right direction. I also had curly hairstyle, and I think that helped with the band of transition. At one point I went for a shorter haircut, which again looked great - pushing 60 so it was like an instant facelift. I am now 3 1/2 years dye free, and is suits me. Not all white, most at the front and a lightish brown at back. It is softer on my face - I had been dyeing is so dark. Thank you again Beth - love all of your content. For instance, your makeup content has been terrific. After the hair comes the eyebrows, new lip colours, etc. Lots of fun.

Hi Beth, I do remember finding your channel and following you for awhile during your transition. I started growing out my hair October 2022 and I also had highlights added twice , then cut my hair short August 2023 and was finished at that point. Thank you for all of your videos, they are so helpful.

I’m about a year in and approached this exactly the same way you did. And I also had to cut my hair into a bob due to bleach damage. I actually like the way my hair looks with the blonde ends. I do think it’s important to find a great stylist. My first stylist was not as supportive and made some remarks. Your hair is gorgeous

I had to work outside my building during the pandemonium. It was cold so I wore a hat for all most a year. During that time I just decided to quit coloring. Never turned back but sometimes feel like I look older than how I feel. Been getting into some different makeup and fashion to kick it up a notch. That and practicing self love and acceptance. I’m free!!!

I just ditched the dye December 2022, year & half into it. Still have dye but maybe 2-3 more haircuts till full gray. Some days i like it, other times I’ll catch myself in mirror and think who’s that old lady lol

Love this video, and thanks for sharing. I went grey about 13 years ago. I have naturally black hair but was coloring it dark ash blonde. I absolutely came to hate dying my hair. So I had my stylist start using the non permanent hair color. After about a year, it grew out to where he could cut it in a short shag type style. Then he quit coloring all together, so the grey blended with the faded color. After about another year he was able to cut almost all of the temp colored hair off. I'm so happy I did this, I get lots of complements on my hair, which is now more pepper than salt. I'm growing it out from a bob to get it to hit my collar bones. I'm 71 now, and think dyed hair on anyone my age really doesn't look very natural.

I stopped coloring my hair six months prior to my pre-planned retirement date. My stylist added a couple of highlights which I felt worked well for the transition. Once retired six months later, I had her restyle it to something shorter and the grey grew in really well. I've never regretted going grey and found my hair is much fuller and thicker and much prettier grey than it did dyed.

This video is great. I had a similar silver hair journey and I totally agree with you :)! Finding the right colorist is key, and lightening hair slowly over time really worked for me too. Like you, I also recommend people find a stylist who specializes in ashy/silver blond coloring. Not all stylists have that skill set, and they can often create more issues when they don't know what they're doing. I also noticed stylists who didn't appear as skilled at coloring and problem-solving, seemed to be the ones who tried to convince me not to grow out my silver hair because "I'd hate it" (their words). Looking back this was likely because they wanted me to pay them a lot of money every month to throw a dark brown dye on my roots, rather than have them spend the time and effort to lighten and blend my silver roots. Your stylist is incredible and very talented :)

I am encouraged by your story. I have taken a similar approach with slowly lightening my hair before I ditched the dye. Now I'm trying to manage the grey/blonde blending as I wait for my hair to grow out. My stylist has been very supportive but the toning products she has used have been disappointing and short lived. Your story and seeing your beautiful gray hair gives me hope and inspiration to stay the course. Thank you!

My journey is very similar to yours. I ditched the dye during the pandemic and we used platinum blonde on the transitions lines. Finally cut out all the blonde ends in 2022 and had a 4" cut this past Feb to get rid of all the damage. Love my color, my curls and waves. Thanks for all the encouraging words and documenting your journey.

Beautiful hair!!! Your curls are very similar to what mine were only three years ago but I think developing diabetes began to change my hair, and I lost most of my curl. It will still curl some, but the curls don’t last not even with gel. I would like to let my gray out also at some point. I began lightening my hair to a dark blonde 21 years ago; 10 years ago, I used bleach once so I could go to a pale Ash blonde, which I really loved so I was not in a hurry to stop. (a highlift blonde worked great from then on). Due to certain circumstances, I couldn’t get my usual product and ended up with a darker shade of blonde, but I want to correct that soon and then I will try some gray hair rinses to see how I will look. I’m sure I’m way older than you so I should not cling to hair coloring so much but the truth is that I’ve been coloring my hair on/off since I was 14 and I always enjoyed it but now that I’m older there’s been times when I have felt a little tired of having to do the retouches. 5:49

Cold turkey baby!!! But, I started it during lockdown. Then I spent many months pilling my hair up in a bun. I worked from home, which made it much easier. I also trimmed my hair monthly at home. I prefer my hair shorter, so that wasn’t hard to do. I just cut off any growth. My colored hair was a warm blond. So the transition to my white hair was hard, but not brutal.

Cold turkey 2 years ago! I had the dreaded “skunk stripe for months! Yours is such a pretty color, mine is not so pretty. For me I’m finding as it’s now mostly grown out I mostly like it but some days I’m not sure. Kind of the excitement of it being done but also a little disappointed it’s over.

I went cold turkey during covid. It took over 2 years to fully grow out. But our office was closed for 1.5 years, so I didn’t consider it a big deal to be two-toned. I’ve been fully gray for 2.5 years. I really like it, but I know others don’t.

Super helpful discussion. Thank you! I use a silver shampoo but I still have some salt and pepper hair at the back. The shampoo tones the warmer colours in my hair. The silver shampoo is used every two or three weeks. I used to demi-colour my hair. My stylist would colour my hair somewhere between a temporary and semipermanent colour. It was pretty sheer and easy to grow out. I had a super short haircut until six years ago. I started to grow my hair out. My stylist pulled almost all the colour out when my hair was shoulder length. When Covid hit, I had to solve my toning issues myself. I essentially went through Covid without a haircut. After Covid I had to find a stylist. My stylist changed careers and my new stylist gradually shortened my hair to an asymmetrical bob. It’s a great haircut for me. My hair curls nicely and it looks and feels stylish. I found myself feeling “frumpy” with grey hair and long curls. I totally understand why you like your hair long. Your hair is stunning.

It's beautiful! I stopped coloring in September of '21, and even then we were just doing a semi permenant "tint" every 3 months or so. I'm under 5' tall so everyone can see the top of my head. I really wanted to avoid the white stripe, so we had been using less and less foils over several years. I am envious of yours though! I think I'm about 30% gray, and feel like I'm going to be salt & pepper for another decade at this rate. 😄

After C@vid and the menopause left my hair a bit thin I decided to go cold turkey, from waist length blonde (bottle blonde) to just let it grow out. The first few months were so slow! And when it reached my ears I just felt so dowdy. Now I can put it up in a French pleat and just a few streaks of blonde show. I love watching the process, faster in some areas than others.
