You're not a New Yorker unless you were born here. Besides, anyone who moves here is usually proud of where they come from. The only people desperate to be called New Yorkers are hipsters because they'll never be New Yorkers but they so want to be, coming from their midwestern homes. That's why they pay $3000 to live in Brooklyn. That doesn't make you a New Yorker - that makes you an imbecile. My wife is from Chicago. She's been in NYC for 19 years. If you ask her, she'll tell you flat out she's a Chicagoan. She's just as proud being born in Chicago as I am being born in NYC.

tyskbulle True, lol ...but New York today is actually a pretty "pleasant" place. A lot of the stuff they're describing, you aren't likely to experience as a tourist, you have to be living there. 20+ years ago was a very different story. These days, you go to Manhattan, even other boroughs, everything is pretty clean and safe. If you knew NYC of the 70s, or even NYC before Giuliani pushed all the homeless and the guys selling knockoff sunglasses and trashbags full of fake rolex watches out of Manhattan...it's crazy how different it is. But one change that breaks my heart is what developers are trying to do to Coney Island. That's a sin!

If they’re asian and carrying 7 bags of supreme? Yeah. Tourist.

I think the important part of this that was missing is you're not a New Yorker until everything said above doesn't matter to you. Been living here my whole life and I've hardly experienced anything in the video, BUT if I did have to experience it in the future, I would most likely be unfazed, not even a story to tell anyone, and most definitely never stop for an interview that's just gonna be on KZbin.

I don't understand New York's appeal. Dirty, crowded, expensive, it's like do you want to live in a shity, run down, over crowded, amusement park with no rides? ...um no thanks I'm good

michael cook I've gone up and down the east coast and the Midwest. Understand this... in New York there is always something to do, people to meet. It's not just another city, it's THE city, fucking crowded there's just so much to do, all types of people. Here you meet the strange and the kind... and the assholes

21Sandoval yeah... it's not 1950, that's literaly every major city. Minus the illusion of being "THE city."

The appeal is the business capital of the world.. entertainment music fashion a whole network is here in NYC.. most of the style and lingo comes from NY. It's the underworld the mob gangs politicians all organized to get one thing that dollar bill.. then everything falls down to the streets. Growing up here in the 80s early 90s was gritty and dirty. You couldn't have nice things cause no jobs and streets was dangerous. If you stood out you got robbed and high chance of getting killed from a crackhead with a gun. Ppl lived here but felt like we survived out here during those times. But now it's cleaner than before and safer.

0:59 This is SO true for me!!! 😂😂 Being born and raised in NY, while studying at a college in the Philippines; almost every pizza I ate there didn't reach my standards. (Closest NY pizza style/taste I got was Sabarro and S&R)

What makes a real New Yorker? Not having to answer an idiotic question like that is certainly a good starting point.

Your not a New Yorker until you go to a foreign country and immediately light a cigarette because the air is too good its suffocating you.
