The fact that people are even questioning how to use cover shows a distinct LACK of force on force training. Even airsofters and paintballers learn to do this very quickly.

What exactly does this comment mean? Because the way it’s written makes it sound like you are pointing out the fact that most people in general don’t understand the concept and proper use of cover, and are therefore seeking instruction. If that is what you are saying then, what exactly is your point? If someone anticipates being in a situation where they may potentially have to utilize cover And they know they are inexperienced and uneducated on the subject, they SHOULD be asking questions and having someone qualified explain and demonstrate it to them.

All good points. Another aspect of slow and deliberate clearing is minimizing exposure of things like elbows, ears, feet, etc. that tend to give the opponent advance notice of you coming around that corner. Lead with eyes and weapon. Conversely, you, too are looking for those same small indicators. Detecting them first gives you options as to next steps. Getting good at shoulder transitions and working from the other strong side takes work and most people won’t do the work to gain the benefits.

The real benefit is learning to do it right. Peeling a corner tight & hugging walls is rarely optimal or recommended if facing opponents armed with assault rifles.

As a patrol rifle instructor/ firearms instructor we incorporated this into our monthly training which was monthly scenario based training. Yes we scored targets. But more importantly we graded the Officer's on the entire scenario. The approach, communications, movements, use of cover/concealment, team work and decision making were all graded. After the scenario we would debrief and challenge the Officer's to defend things like shoot don't shoot decisions. Police work is a thinking mans game. You must become a conscious competent. You not only have to do the right thing, you have to know why it's the right thing. Nice video.

@whiskeyandammo there definitely is a martial art to gun fighting, I go on remedieval battles and fight and do martial arts where the fight is much more personal than being yards away and still killing the enemy, but yea it’s much of the same idea of say sword and shield, you use the wall or what have you as your shield, and your gun your blade..

In the majority of gun fights concealment acts as cover as far as getting the bad guy to stop shooting at you. Most under pressure will only shoot at targets they see. This is something you can see demonstrated regularly on channels like Active Self Protection.

If i hear movement and i'm the bad guy i am shooting... sometimes you have to be a delta operator and learn to take the corner and advance then square off engage rest of room. Also don't be afraid to take a position that they don't expect aka on a knee.

@Surviving the Street , an SBR, or braced pistol (especially in .300 blk with 110grain vmax bullets) is simply a better platform than a 16" or even a 14.5" barrel in an urban/suburban environment, especially indoors. Here in Ozarkistan, we tested 5.56 v .300 blk on whitetail does that were all about 140-150lbs on the hoof. That 110 grain .300 bullet seems to almost explode inside a chest cavity, deer were dead within 2 seconds, even with less than perfect shots at ranges of 60-120yds. BEST PART about .300blk: Almost no overpenetration. Just a tiny bullet core. The entry wounds were much larger than the exit wounds. It's an absolutely devestating round compared to 5.56, even 77 grain sierras, without the overpenetration. The .300blk 110 grain, just dumps all its energey after about 1-2" of penetration. It's very accurate out to 300+meters with only a 10" barrel. Want barrier penetration? Load some mags with 150 grain fmj. You can load any .308 bullet into .300blk. It also costs about the same as 5.56 today.

I’m a cross dominant shooter. Unfortunately, I’m cross dominant because my strong side eye is extremely weak, so I’d never be able to clear a room in this way. Then again, I probably shouldn’t be trying to clear rooms. In any case, this is interesting and I often wondered why shoulder switching wasn’t something talked about or seen in movies or even most games.

our tactical training showed the importance of turning your leading foot inward to prevent it sticking out past the barricade before our muzzle cleared as well as tucking our shooting hand elbow in and aligning it over the leading leg, and then leaning forward past the barricade and not sideways, which always has your muzzle pointing at the enemy first before he sees your body parts coming around the corner

As a paintball player swapping is all subconscious muscle memory and you would be dumb not to do this. Why grab the mag just bring your support hand back to the grip and your dominant hand now forward as you move the rifle across your body. Sounds more difficult than it is, also keep your outer foot inline with the cover you’re using to not expose your foot and legs also because you need to lean your upper body with your elbow tucked.

Can we address manipulating the safety while holding the rifle on the left side. The easy solution is an ambidextrous safety lever, but not all agencies allow modification to the patrol rifles. I suppose you can still manipulate the safety with the left thumb, but that sacrifices solid grip.

@Forward_Concepts
@Forward_Concepts 7 ай бұрын
Well, if the doors are closed which in that case they were …it’s your choice on whether or not you want to or feel like you can continue that process, but it does need to happen quickly as to not allow your back exposed for a period of time limiting your ability to react to a door opening. That being said, that hard corner near the closed doors still needs attention….sometimes you have to have your head on a swivel and do multiple jobs without over committing. Or You could work the door and long angle up to a certain point then just take the room…which is what I suggest if there are open doors in front of you. Because there becomes a point where it’s no longer manageable to pay attention to all things…and you will have to make a decision and choose one of the lesser evils. I know a guy who was working that door while exposed to closed doors ahead, slow methodical, as he broke that angle at the threshold slightly the bad guy started shooting from the room and grazed his face. A closed door (if you feel like you still have a surprise element) can afford you time to address a threat when you hear or see movement from the door. There’s no real wrong answer and it’s the individuals decisions to choose. Sometimes I stand there and look at a problem and ultimately end up with “this sucks but that’s what we have” Example…two open open opposing doors at the end of a hall way…but can only fit linear in the hallway…
@jenniturtleburger3708
@jenniturtleburger3708 7 ай бұрын
@@Forward_Concepts I had to make a correction to my comment. It was that first doorway in the beginning few seconds of the video (the door was open, so I want to make sure we are talking about the same thing.) As you pie’d slowly around that threshold I was wondering (especially once you got to the far side of the entrance) how dangerous it would be if a bad guy was just around that next hall way corner which was a very short distance from the far edge of the doorframe. Anyway, I agree sometimes it just sucks and you have to make do. But do you think quickly passing the room to clear the hallway then coming back to the room would be a viable option? (Sorry if you answered this and I didn’t fully understand. I think you basically agreed you could do either.)

Yeah I understand that. Just wondering if all that time and money spent to train this is worth it. We are talking what inches of more exposure here. Also, seems like your head placement is relatively the same either way. Meaning it stays centerline and it is more left or right depending upon which side the firearm is on but it is not much. Then, If we add into the mix mag changes, then we have to train to flip the mag or change back to other side for reloads because our mags will be oriented for the dominant side. Either way, adds additional time for inches of exposure. Again, not saying I disagree, just some things I think about and contemplate.

By this theory the group of cops get shot less by running through the doorway. CQB always works when the bad guy isn’t staring at the door with a gun. When he is…people get shot a lot.
@tommybenford9891
@tommybenford9891 7 ай бұрын
Yeah but knocking on the door standing right in front of the door is pretty dumb I get the stairway was blocking them from doing a solid stack. But you’re already on a stair with no cover they shouldn’t of stacked on the stair cause when shots went off nobody could actually run to cover cause they were tripping on each other. Also standing a 90-190 degrees from the doorway is a lot better then standing dead middle

But being a lefty paid off in 2021 when a 2x convicted felon decided to draw on me an two kids in the car. There was no road rage. We all had our hands up begging for our lives. And this video just shows the last 10 seconds of a 40 sec ordeal when he decided to have a draw contest. As the driver, and lefty I had a quick draw holster to my right, pointed backwards, no round chambered. Cleared a whole doorway while exposing yourself and keeping yourself exposed in a whole hallway without even checking it then talks about exposure. I get it’s your household and you know it’s safe but if you’re making a cqb video at least take it as if you don’t know if there is someone in the back of the clearly very dark hallway.
