I was always aware of Kendrick, but never really listened to his music until this Drake “beef”. Listened to the diss tracks (on both sides) and came away unimpressed. I dove more into his music and left even more unimpressed. I don’t have an issue with him as an artist … there has always been mediocre rappers. I think the problem is that it feels like the industry (other rappers included) are shoving him down our throats and trying to brainwash us into believing the hype. He emerged out of that mumble rap shit so that could be why he sounds refreshing to people. Being raised in the golden era of 90s hip hop … we might have been spoiled. I might sound like an angry old man, but I don’t care. Give me Tribe, Wu-Tang, Souls of Mischief, Hieroglyphics, etc. any day of the week.

@@lugebeatzz8747Would rather that monotone voice than a nasaly one who needs corny adlibs. Also, not every video needs to be religious and "deep". They'll have decent lyrical moments but won't be able to sustain it throughout an entire song. However I don't think you need to be great lyrically to make dope hiphop music and Rocky showed that in 2011 when Purple Swag came out. That song was lyrically garbage outside of the last 4 bars which were pretty good rhyme-wise. But Purple Swag was good despite the poor lyrics because the beat was crazy, Rocky was floating on it and he was charismatic AF. So Rocky, despite lacking bars, was still displaying 90s rapper talent in terms of his flow and charisma and had the unique beats to justify him becoming popular. Kanye West doesn't have crazy beats like Rocky had back then, he does sometimes have charisma but he comes off more whiny than aggressive, and Kanye West ain't got good flow either like Rocky does. Kanye excels when he makes soft pop rap music that appeals to suburban whites. Don't get me wrong, Rocky does too LMAO. But the difference is Rocky actually displayed he could make hiphop music also not just that pop bullshit like Sundress, Wild For The Night and Praise the Lord to an extent.

"Some people like the way it feels, some people wanted to kill their sorrow, some people wanted to fit in with the popular that was my problem." "All I have in life is my new appetite for failure and I got hunger pain that grow insane, tell me do that sound familiar? If it do then you're like me, makin' excuse that you're relief is in the bottom of a bottle, and the greenest Indo leaf as the window opened I release everything that corrode inside of me I see you joking why you laugh don't you feel bad I prolly sleep and never ever wake up." "Dreams of realities peace, blow steam in the face of the beast, the sky can fall down, the wind can cry out, the strong in me, I still smile, I LOVE MYSELF." "Quite frankly, dusted off my shoes with my hankie And kicked it like he skate, make these motherfuckers hate me The reason why they hate, cause these motherfuckers ain't me And you can underrate me, but I know what I'm worth A diamond in God's dirt, a diamond in winter" I could go on. @@nicetry4096 in reality none of them are as lyrically complex or thought provoking as kendrick, sing about me im dying of thirst is one of the best rap songs of all time. @@mjsburneraccount5591 I think he appreciated the message and consistency of the project. Fantano does tend to like cohesive albums and MMATBS was well put together as a body of work but if we're being honest there were no good songs lol
@АлуаКенес-д2м6 ай бұрын
It's so weird to me when people say that album is not enjoyable for anyone as if their tastes define other people's preferences. MMATBS covers a lot of heavy subjects and there are great amount of people who genuinely enjoyed and can relate to this album.

Sorry, but your opinion is already irrelevant when you call guys like Black Thought, one of the most underrated lyricists in hip hop weak, I can't take you seriously, lol, and say Drake has improved, where he's really gotten worse and more R&B than ever, than yeah, we done, lol
@tochiRTA5 жыл бұрын
if Black Thought is such an incredible lyricist and you know your hip hop, name 3 quotables he has. Not whole verses. Quotables. One or two lines max per quotable.

@@tochiRTA Easy, Dear God: For this high percentage, when the sky's the limit A second is a minute, every hour's infinite Twofifteen: It's gettin' cold outside, a word from the wise Y'all niggas better bundle up Clock With No Hands: Yo, I'm like Malcom out the window with the weapon out Searching for somehow to find a minute or the second now I can give you way more

@@Hunterese123 All of those lines are average. Mediocre. And this is what kills me - y'all expect me to be impressed by mediocrity and pretend like I don't know what I'm talking about. Yet I'm gonna break it down for you to show you I actually really know this hip hop shit and chances are you won't even read it (and more importantly, really sit and think about what I'm saying). So it'll be a waste of my time but oh well. Dear God: "For this high percentage"... is the weakest part of that part. High percentage of what? How does that relate to the sky being the limit? It's just a bunch of words thrown together. A second being a minute and all that "Time doesn't apply to God" is typical Judeo Christian stuff you can find in the Bible. We've all heard those sentiments a million times. Nothing special. Twofifteen: "Y'all niggas better bundle up" is a direct bite of what Freeway said on How We Do. It sounded better coming from Freeway and had fewer words. "It's a cold winter, y'all niggas better bundle up." That's what Freeway said. Why did Black Thought take more words to express simple shit that could be done in fewer? And when Freeway said "it's a cold winter", the preceding line "Crack a 40 when the sun go down" paints the visual of the sun going down so obviously the temperature will drop. Black Thought's line about 'getting cold outside"comes after him talking about the Mannequin challenge, which doesn't connect visually, emotionally or intellectually to the next line about the getting cold outside. Clock With No Hands: Sounds like Black Thought was listening to Ghostface. We see that Black Thought copied Freeway for like 2 bars straight so he probably was listening to "Malcolm" by Ghost (which is a vastly superior song) and threw in some filler. Black Thought's line pretty much starts like Ghost's "Ayo I'm like Malcolm out the window with the joint ." Again Black Thought comes in with a cliche thought and line because he leaned too heavy on better rappers who said the same shit already. Sorry bruh. Black Thought actually has better lines than the ones you quoted. Much better. But how can you accuse me of having an irrelevant opinion and not knowing what I'm talking about, when you don't even know Black Thought's material like that? I KNOW HIS MATERIAL BETTER THAN YOU DO. Props on you actually responding though. 99% of these "tochiRTA u iz idiot" posters disappear when asked to back up what they say.

@@Hunterese123 your response is exactly what I would expect from an emotional casual. You can't debate and look at things critically because you don't actually know hip hop deep enough. You've been told Black Thought is amazing so you just follow. And if someone says real shit that contradicts what has been marketed to you, you shut down and give a cute little emotional response. It's all good. Stick around - you might learn something :)
