Quick note ! In the tree part, you can fix the edges strokes by masking the top layer and paint white on the edges

And if you use "Darken" as your brush setting it will only remove what is lighter than the colour you have selected.

Hello from Puerto Rico. You are an incredible artist and it will take me a while to fully grasp your concepts by watching and re-watching your tutorials. This is why Photoshop is still the standard. There are so many methods of doing things that it boggles the mind. I've never seen your methods anywhere else and it's going to take me time to understand the "whys" of the things you do. My 67 year old mind sometimes gets confused 🙂. But I guess that's the challenge and the fun of learning new things.

Did you still recommend the core skills course or it will be better to just do one of the new courses? I am between the core skills from the old neo stock page vs the art of composite clinton course

The Core Skills course is pretty dated now, but it covers graphic design skills that all the other courses don't. It depends on what you want to achieve Eduardo :) - Dean

Doing that 'applies' the effect, pretty much rasterizes it (if that makes sense) - Dean

I think it is easier to use a 50% gray layer( or whatever single color layer) underneath the top layer instead of changing the photoshop preference settings while using blending options isn't it?

No, it's not easier because you do the other way just one time and you save it and you will not have to do it every time. The default transparent layer pattern hurts my eyes and I see no need for it, this is my own opinion. The less time / steps I spend on a layer the more more comfortable I work, even if it's 5 seconds.
