My 12 year old granddaughter wanted her upper ear (cartilage) pierced, but although her mother agreed…..by Law due to medical risks she must be eighteen!!! Let that sink in! By Law piercing of ear cartilage must WAIT until eighteen!! Everything has medical risks….yet an argument against why they should have an age limit before a non-reversible procedure continues!! Just shut it down and say it’s for their own benefit!!

Yep. I have a friend who I have known for 30 years. When we were teenagers, we came to washington for her to abort a pregnancy without parental consent. Again, at 17, we came back to get her a tattoo, her dad came with us. We got told hard no. Every shop we went to, even in shady neighborhoods was like NO, get out! It has always been backwards what kids could and could not do in states like mine. Because the age of consent is 13, and has been for decades. So they CAN sign up for a medical procedure but not a tattoo, because laws.

I agree. Schizophrenic patients are delusional, they often see things that aren’t real. Doctors don’t just tell such patients that their world is real just because they believe so out of their illness, they treat them and provide psychological support. So children who have gender dysphoria shouldn’t be straight off told that their mental struggle is not a problem at all, rather the norm. Instead, they should be provided with appropriate mental health care and support they need.

We are controlled by laws of nature. There is a general force of nature, and two opposite forces-bestowal and reception-extend from it. We exist between these forces, and both of these qualities affect us. Then, the question arises: How do we develop under the influence of these forces? Where do we act? Where are we free? How do we accumulate and correlate these two forces within ourselves? How can we build ourselves out of them? These are the questions that the wisdom of Kabbalah engages in: how we receive these two forces in an optimal balance, and with their help, shape ourselves so as to resemble the very laws of nature, to arise and reach equivalence of form with the force of bestowal in nature. These very laws gave us the opportunity to control the pace of our progress in accepting them upon ourselves. That is the point of our freewill. How could we act if we do not have freewill? Who would we be? Would we just be like robots, always under control? Until now, we have always been under control. What does it mean? Nature as if injects a drop of egoism-the desire to enjoy at others’ expense-into us, and then it does so a little more, and a little more again, and we then get the impetus to move toward all kinds of egoistic goals. The more our egoism inflates, the more we become willing to move to increasingly gain at the expense of others. Nature constantly squeezes the syringe into us until it eventually infuses us with the full amount of egoism. Our era is characterized by the syringe of egoism having become completely injected into us, with no more egoism left to inject. That is why we have nowhere left to run. Where do we head from here? What do we do? Moreover, egoism has become global and integral. In the beginning, we felt good because we reached egoistic global connections in the world and thought that everything would be fine. However, when such connections started depending on everyone, we turned out to be nature’s opposite. At this juncture, we find ourselves with a major dilemma, and we need to work out what we do about it. Where our fully-inflated egoism coupled with our tightening global connections brings us to increasing problems around the world, today we require a new form of connection-enriching education that would have the ability to guide us on how to change our egoistic connections to altruistic ones. That is the key to a shift to a harmonious and peaceful world.

Virtually every single medical procedure and drug in America must undergo highly rigorous and extensive testing before approval. This involves years and years of research, phased testing, evaluation of outcomes, side effects, risks, etc. even for something as simple as, say, blood pressure medication. I cannot comprehend how we have circumnavigated all of that when it comes to “gender affirming care.” We are literally EXPERIMENTING on CHILDREN every single time we prescribe off-label drugs or perform gender affirming surgery. This is not hyperbole. We know infinitely less about how gender reassignment surgery, puberty blockers, chemical castration drugs, etc. will affect our kids than we know about how they might be affected by taking Accutane. In what universe is this acceptable???

fully agree with the caution part. this is why you need psychiatric evaluations for gender affirming care, especially in minors. what i dont understand is the notion of gender affirming care being something dangerous- while i understand that one can come to very quick conclusions when thinking about ones own puberty and all the changes and, frankly, stupid ideas that came with that, if you have had one conversation with a trans person you will see that it is not a decision made on a whim, neither is it something trans people do out of some idea of a trend, with the extreme amount of hate and anger directed towards these people it's cruel to strip away more and more chances for a better life from them, because no matter how much you scream about child abuse, waiting for puberty to be over can be very very damaging for trans minors. it's a common conservative reaction to dictate what others can or can't do, which is already bad, but seeing the rising tide of legislation against trans people leaves me with a feeling that conservatives are acting on irrational fears and spite

All of these experimental gender affirming procedures are being defended because they “might” improve the mental health, happiness, overall sense of well-being etc. of gender confused kids. There are hundreds of drugs and medical procedures at our disposal that “might” cure things like depression, cancer, obesity, etc. that would certainly enhance the lives of the recipients in similar ways. Yet, we aren’t marching in the streets to abandon sound research and testing protocols to make sure these things are safe and effective before just administering them to those who might benefit because we know that would be a mistake. Gender affirming care is no different and shouldn’t be driven by social and political activists.

There's a line from Kindergarten Cop which I think really sums up the situation, "boys have a penis, girls have a vagina". Truthfully I don't understand what all of this nonsense is coming from. You can't even address a group of people as "ladies and gentleman" anymore because it excludes people who are on the fence. I know that there is an appeal to our sense of acceptance, and I get that, truly I do. But why should I have to accept somebody for what they believe themselves to be when they can't accept themselves for what they actually are? Reversible or not, why are we giving kids puberty blockers? Why are we giving them "gender affirming care"? Why are we even doing it for adults? Let me pose this scenario: A man walks into a doctor and says, "I identify as disabled, I would like you to remove my arm so my body will match with my identity." The doctor will then reply, "of course, these men in the white jackets and the waist-to-wrist restraints will take you to pre op where you'll be given a shot which may or may not leave you with a silly smile on your face for the rest of the day so you don't hurt yourself." Now, that same man walks into a doctor and says "I identify as a woman, I would like you to mutilate my junk so my body will match my identity." That same doctor responds "excellent, let's get you on hormones right away." It's absolutely ludicrous. I know this is going to insult some people, but truthfully I don't care. Gender Dysphoria is a mental illness and should be treated as such. There is such thing as absolute truth. Truth that public opinion cannot sway, not even the inexhaustible authority of celebrity endorsement can change. That absolute truth is this: MEN ARE NOT WOMEN, AND WOMEN ARE NOT MEN.
@Mae-Mae-Maee
@Mae-Mae-Maee 9 ай бұрын
the comparison with the man wanting to be disabled does not work. i recommend that you try and reach out to some trans people and talk to them if you have difficulties understanding their situation. it really is more complex than just a whimsical decision of "huh, would be neat to be a man/woman now" and the fact that these people exist despite high rates of violent crimes being committed against them, as well as a wave of legislation and political agitation they find themselves victim of should hopefully help to clarify that this ia something deeper that people are willing to do since there is no other way for them.

@@Mae-Mae-Maee I speak to transsexual people on an almost daily basis. I worked for a state institution for years. I feel for them truly I do. But the fact is that they're not getting the treatment that they should. You realize that affirming their gender identity is a little like telling somebody with schizophrenia that the voices in their head really do exist and we should seek to understand them? Do you realize that even with optimum outcomes (successful surgeries, accepting family and friends, supportive associates) the suicide rate is still 40% higher than those of a similar demographic? On the flip side, have you ever spoken to a transabled person? Do you think their feelings are any less like those in the transsexual community? Perhaps there's less of a gap than you would like to believe.
@Mae-Mae-Maee

@@Gravyize i still think you're reaching very far and leaving out some important points. especially the 40% suicide rate is not a good indicator of any sort of mental defect on which we should deny trans people access to transitioning. i doubt that the suicide rate is at 40 percent with optimal outcomes. what i've heard and read directly contradict this. the suicide rate is this high not alone due to personal struggles, but also social and legal struggles trans people face. the suicide rate is higher among those that do not get gender affirming care. there is simply no other humane way to handle this. while i kind of understand where the comparison with schizophrenia is going, i would argue there is a big different between schizophrenic delusions and the feelings of trans people. equating it with bodily harm just isn't fair either, body integrity dysphoria is the name and transabled is a weird sort of coinage of the label trans as something to put in front of everything. it doesn't work, it's different. trans is something that has been established for quite some time now, even as far back as 1920's germany. it's not body integrity dysphoria
@Gravyize
@Gravyize 9 ай бұрын
You know what, you're absolutely right. There are actually some recorded cases of this before the 20s. It was a phenomenon that occurred in approximately 1 in 3 million males. It was extraordinary rare. Now it has taken on a social contagion aspect. It's happening now way more often because people who already have anxiety and depression, or other underlying disorders are guided to question their sexuality by social media rather than accepting that there may be other issues. While the rates of cases in the transabled community have remained very low. When you look at the staggering costs of medical transition (which has literally become a multi-billion dollar industry) there's no wonder why there are some doctors that don't even ask questions they just immediately put kids on puberty blockers. You can't tell me you agree with that. Puberty blockers for kids? Don't you think that's taking it too far? Do you have kids? I do. I can tell you from a great deal of experience that kids do some really dumb things. Mostly because they're just starting to understand the world around them, but also because their little brains are still developing. If some adult wants to have a sex change, that's one thing, but to give puberty blockers to someone who in no way, shape, or form, is equipped to understand the far reaching consequences of that decision is just plain wrong. Can we at least agree on that? Also I feel I should point out, I didn't say that the suicide rate was 40%. What I said is that it is still 40% higher than those in a similar demographic.

@@Gravyize the point of social contagion is one i've heard in the context of jordan peterson. i don't know if you listen to him, but he is notorious for tackling concepts he does not fully comprehend and that are better suited for experts on the field. social contagion is one such topic, there are studied directly refuting the claim that social contagion is causing "more" cases of trans people or trans youth. if you're interested in the study, you can google 'Sex Assigned at Birth Ratio Among Transgender and Gender diverse Adolescents in the United States'. there is no such thing as social contagion, trans people exist and, as you agreed, have existed for quite a long time. i don't think that the point of gender affirming care being expensive is a point against trans youth, rather a critique on greedy corporations, and while i do not believe and have not seen convincing evidence of, especially kids, being put on hormones willy nilly, even if it were the case we would be arguing against the greedy practices of business. i'm fully with you there. but kids on hormones/puberty blockers is a big thing. most kids would probably only get puberty blockers until they can make a informed decision because, as you said and i agree, it's a very touchy thing to just agree to everything a kid says. puberty blockers are fully reversible and have no chance of any sort of damage, the only thing you would need is bone supplements, but again, there are no repercussions. i don't see why there is a problem with that- puberty blockers have already entered "mainstream" use for people reaching puberty too early, their use in trans youth does not endanger anyone and allows doctors as well as the child enough time to get a feeling for the weigth of their decision.
