I have a lot more respect for your content after you took the retrospective stance of being too clickbaity. Now, you make engaging content which lives up and often exceeds expectations set by the title and thumbnail. There's always a cool ending piece to the videos and, at least for me, the trust has been re-earned for me to always click and watch through your videos.

I'm weening myself currently. I don't regret the journey because I kinda found who I am and appreciate "me" in a much more realistic and honestly more experienced and mature way than I believe would have been possible any other way. That being said: I will be so happy to leave the weight of the angry monkey that is heroin behind me. Furthermore, I DO NOT recommend ANYONE else attempting this as a method of self discovery. It is so easy to lose yourself in the deadly and distractive world, and once lost ... Well, lost is lost. I am very happy for you that you were able to pull yourself from under the dragon's grip! And I truly thank you for being so honest and willing to open up here. Your comment gave me a great amount of needed strength. Thank you so much!

No one does the heated skillet and paper technique anymore with the crayon. Basically, you have an electric skillet and you place paper down let it be heated and you draw on top with said crayons. The wax melts on contact as you draw. It was the best way to do it.

You missed a method you could have used here, which is melting in layers and then peeling layers back with a knife/pointy stick still looks cool but I wanted to see you find those colours underneath in other ways, and you get to add your own textures then rather than relying on melted wax awesomeness (you could have peeled back the sky to reveal mountains carved into them that might have been unusually satisfying given the background would weirdly pop up above the foreground)

I have a better recommendation! We used to to this at a kids' fun center. You use an electric griddle set pretty low, cover it with foil to protect it, then put your paper on and get artsy. It's so fun the way they glide and get melty as you draw.

Jazza I’m a high schooler, and I used crayons. And they are misunderstood medium, I’m gonna list a few things that’ll make coloring with crayons better. 1) DON’T USE TEXTURED PAPER I noticed that the paper you used was textured, for crayons you need smooth paper with little to no texture 2) YOU CAN BLEND THEM much like color pencils, they take layers and you need to start off lightly so then you can build up the color and blend 3) Follow up to 1) the wax does stick and doesn’t change shape, but again you used textured paper thus making the wax uneven and unable to stick I’m not being a jerk just simply pointing out major errors you did. Overall love you content!

Pre-melt some colours in small pans (as you did in the first big test) and pallet it onto the canvas with heated pallet knives. Heated knives should keep the wax mobile on the canvas and allow you to blend colour. You can then proceed with oil painting techniques. Definitely a "Bob Ross but with melted wax" video possibility!

Jazza does it all wrong!!! You fix an electric iron upside down, such as in a vice on a workbench. It just needs to be held firmly, so it won't move and is upside down. Geddit? Then, when it's heated up, warm your paper and draw away. So you don't need a hotplate, though you can only draw on as much area as the electric iron, and just move your paper round as you draw. Have fun!!! (I bet someone gets this wrong and puts their crayon directly on the iron and makes a mess. Derrrr...)

Jazza: I hate crayons Me, whose main medium is crayons: 😅 My crayon tips: - Use marker first! (I use alcohol based so I don’t kill my paper, but I’m sure water based works fine too). This allows you a base of color to build on - Blend them! I personally have been using a white crayon to achieve this, but I’ve also heard good things about alcohol based blenders - If you hate the texture (I personally love it), just scrape it off (you can use your nails, a coin, or a scraping tool). You can also combine textures by only scraping parts you want to emphasize - Don’t be afraid to sharpen your crayons (they fit in the big side of a pencil sharpener, or you can by a specially made crayon sharpener - it’s literally just a pencil sharpener but they replace the blade with plastic so it’s not as harsh, and it maintains the flat base and point shape of the crayon)

My mom is the creative one in my family and she has a special iron (as in like an iron for clothes) for melting crayons. It's essentially like you used your spatulas, but warm, so it is not as rough and you don't need to use your blow-dryer to melt it. The iron obviously doesn't have steam or anything fancy. It was specifically made for this purpose.

I'm not sure if that would work.... It is a sticky stuff, and it hardens quickly. Maybe some hard bristle brushes could live up to the job, but most certainly you will have to throw away them after. And you would need a brush per colour as you can't wash the wax out. Not even with turps as the crumbles of dry wax aren't easy to remove from anything they stick to... Or if you managed, the previous point still stands, you most likely can throw out the brush as it would be damaged beyond help after the procedure.

The Crayola Experience lets you do something akin, but the problem is, the wax cools too fast. You practically have to have the hot stuff sitting ready to go intentionally to paper. Unless you're into chaotic abstract looking things. I've been more successful with crayons using watercolor paper and using a scratch method and using 93% isopropyl to sort of smooth out the colors. Similar to a method used with colored pencils. Not perfect, but nicer.

My sister did portraits of people in melted crayon. She'd block certain spaces, like how you paint watercolor. She taped off the spaces that needed to remain white then used a hair dryer to drip crayons on the canvas. She'd even mix colors by holding 2-3 crayons melting them at the same time, then pushing them around with the hair dryer on the canvas until she got the right color. It was beautiful when the tape came off, it looked exactly like watercolor but made only with melted crayons.

Love how you play and experiment with materials. It's very satisfying to see a talented artist let go of the rules and consistently innovate. Also... If you ever want to try drawing with crayons again, I used to draw with them on a pretty toothy brown Kraft paper (like the kind that comes in rolls for wrapping packages). The brown paper serves as a great mid-tone and takes advantage of the opacity of the waxy medium. Great for layering crosshatched built up color fields, but I'm not sure that's a style you'd favor. Another big plus for the Kraft rolls, you can make really big drawings for cheap.

Paper on top, heat from the lamp will melt the crayons as you draw, and as it will stay liquid/soft because warm, you are able to blend, scrape to get fast broad coverage, and use various tools (I use sculpting tools) to scratch textures into the crayon, which you can overlay with different colours to get outlines and shaded textural lines.

When I was a kid--back in the 70s, in Texas--I used to melt Crayons with a magnifying glass onto leaves, etc. So satisfying.

I can only hope he scrolled through some of my random crayon art I've been making over the years. Love this stuff. Shredding got so messy for me, but makes good art. Basic melt works great, I usually use Elmers wood glue, seems to bond to crayons better.

When I was a teen I was introduced to something called Encaustic Art which uses a small craft iron/heating tools and crayons to create abstract or detailed art pieces - you should most definitely check it out its very relaxing and you can get some beautiful pieces!!!

in my middle school art class we used what looked like flat wood burning tools to melt crayon that we already drew with on wooden boards and used more melted crayon to add texture and build color and blend. in high school i've also repurposed old broken crayons into new fun shaped ones by melting them and pouring the wax into molds and was able to control it enough to make character shaped crayons. it was fun and would love to do it again, thanks for the reminder!

What would happen if you used the hair dryer over the first drawing you did? Or maybe put the drawing under a heat lamp. If you could get the crayons to melt slowly, you could add in bits of crayon shavings to enhance the initial layer of color.

Trying to remember art class in 8th grade (1970s) Lg bottom part of a metal drum, with sides about 1ft high. Tin cans Crayons Paint brushes Wax Lg rough-toothed canvas Parchment paper Iron The metal drum was in 4 inches of very hot water, and im not sure how it stayed hot. The tin cans were in the water with various colors of melted Crayons mixed with plain wax. Using paintbrushes we painted the wax on the canvas. Place Parchment paper on top and iron it until the wax melts into the newspaper, leaving amazing colors on the canvas. Might have been more to it than that, but it was ages ago.

Want better detail and texture with crayons? Use a hot press paper, rather than the very deliberately chosen highly textured cold press used for the first doodle. Also, you can get some seriously cool effects by making your own scratch boards with crayons, without electrical appliances or flame throwers.

These turned out awesome! The Bob Ross inspired one is my favorite! But can they be hung up in a home? I suspect dust would stick to the wax like it does old candles. Also, during a heat wave... lol

It just blows my mind to think about how much experience he has, to be able to go from dabble to dive so fast, As well as how much more he's learning in every video I'm imagining milestone-videos of him combining everything new he has learned into one epic art project... Please do that 😄

I want to ask you if you ever made Jesus your lord and your savior have you ever thought about turning to God? God loves you and wants you to come to him and he will give you salvation for free you cannot earn your way to heaven its a gift that you take from God through Jesus. Did you know that God is our Judge and even though He doesn't want anyone to go to hell alot will go there because they will try to earn there way into heaven God is our Judge and Jesus is our savior from the sins we committed. Since God's our Judge everyone will be in front of God on Judgement day some will be with Jesus and go into heaven and others God will send into Hell. This is why alot will go into He'll because they trust in there heart that there a Good person and they think that if they change there bad ways than they won't Go to Hell but since God's a Good Judge he cannot let sin be unpunished. that's like you on earth killing someone and then telling the judge you won't do it again! So don't put me in prison! That won't work. The only thing that will save you is if someone paid your fines and the judge can Justly and rightly let you out because someone paid for your fines. Jesus paid for our sins on the cross and he took the punishment of our sins on himself because He loves us he chose to die for you in hopes that you will turn to him because he knows that nothing will save you from Hell except Him except His work on the Cross. If you want to be saved tell God that you make Jesus your lord and your savior and agree and rest in that Jesus died for you and on the third day God raised Jesus from the dead Agree and rest in Jesus . "9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed."

If you want to use crayons in a more painterly manner, you need to place paper on top of a vintage warming tray. The heat transfers and melts the crayons more as you draw with them. Works really well and this is something I used to do with my own kids in the 1990's. Granted you will need to supervise your kids since you are using something that generates heat. The light heat melts and really smooths out the surface of the crayon as you lay it down.

I love using crayons because I like the soft storybook effect I did this alot in drawings. Your supposed to use the dark colors first and then use the light shade of that color second, it takes practice and time. Also it depends on the paper you are using. I feel as though non-texture paper works best than the texture kind of you are going for the storybook effect. Love your videos.🥰👍
