actually even Innova does have different flight numbers on different plastic for some discs. I have a Gstar Invicticus with flight numbers. Normally, the numbers are 10 4 0 3 , however in Gstar the numbers are 10 5 -1 2.... probably an exception to the rule ;)

I have a halo road runner that flies like a 8/4/0/3. Its flight numbers are 9/5/-4/1. I have a beat in star road runner that flies more like 9/5/-2.5/1. Part of this is my arm speed but the halo definately doent fly anywhere near what my star road runner does! Oh and innova in the last couple years has started putting seperate flight numbers for different plastic but only for some of the drivers. They only change the turn number.

Halo is just so much beefier than most of their other plastic. I think this video is sort of a PSA about how plastic affects flight, I worry about new players just grabbing a champion destroyer off the shelf when they were throwing a DX one, they aren't even in the same universe!

I recently got a MVP Volt in Fission plastic. It's absolutely beef. Fades hard and falls from the sky. My older, heavier Volt in Neutron flies straight.

Boss, Shryke, Daedalus, Invictus, Katana, probably more marked either with champion more stable or gstar less stable. Least accurate would have to be a King, rated -1,3 and is the most US distance driver I've thrown.

Oh interesting, I think I threw a VIP Air King when I was somewhat new to disc golf and it was still somewhat stable but it was flat as a board, maybe 157g.

Good job. My disc that didn't fly like the numbers was the new latitude 64 orbital claymore the glide is rediculous and it is closer to a fuse in flight.

I've been a subscriber since nearly the beginning, but I want to mention I have a Star Sidewinder that's more stable than my Champion Valkyrie. It flies practically like a Thunderbird.

Dynamic discs suspect. It's supposed to be a zone clone, but it's understable.... still one of my favorite approach discs just not what I thought I was getting when I first picked it up.

I got a chameleon raven clein suspect hoping for a more durable pig replacement it is pretty much a backup for my over stable envy though. It goes super strait and then a gliding fade at the end. Not the dump i was looking for. Very reliably strait though!

Streamline Special-Edition neutron Ascend, while it got great glide flew more like a 7 6 0 2 which is nowhere near the advertised -3 1. I'm not sure if I got a bad disc, as others say the neutron Ascend is very uderstable - or could it be that the SE uses a different blend?

I started out with mostly Latitude 64 and Dynamic Disc in premium plastic. Other manufacturers flight numbers seem to fly similar except Innova . The dx numbers seem closer 🤷‍♂️

Flight numbers charts or brochures were available before Innova first started printing on discs. I still have one printed before 2009.

The Halo series from Innova have some serious fade. The numbers definitely are close to their designed flight characteristics. However you do have to allow for some variation because of arm speed and production variances.

I had an old G-Star Valkyrie and it turned over so much more than the flight numbers said. Then I’d throw my Champ Valk and it would be like two completely differently made discs

This is a much harder question than I thought it would be! I remember when the Anax came out years ago I got one and it was super overstable. I tried it out in the field the other day and now it’s flippy 🤷🏻‍♂️. Perhaps I wasn’t throwing it fast enough back then.

A hypothetical testing machine wouldn't have to be designed to mount on a human or use a human-like throwing motion. I can think of a whole bunch of designs but I imagine that a pair of large fly-wheels where the disk is inserted slightly offset from the center might work.

I had a big z Luna that was a hyzerflip to turn disc straight out of the box. Luna is certainly not as stable as the numbers indicate.

Luna is a great example! Our buddy Rich from Disc Golf Recovery is a Luna junky and he has over 80 Lunas or something, I'm not sure more than 2 are overstable, he mostly throws them for straight or turnover shots.

Flight numbers existed long before Innova started stamping them right on the disc. All those PFN discs were advertised with flight numbers. The guy who tried to build a disc throwing machine had no idea about how to throw a disc or the physics of flight. A successful machine would have to be based on a linear pull.

The disc I threw that was least like the flight numbers? Quest AT Defender, the disc with "golf ball technology" (look it up). The manufacturer apparently had no actual interest in playing disc golf but thought he was some genius. The Defender was marketed as 11/14/0/5. No, that's not a typo. How did it actually fly? I would rate it at 6/5/-4/0.

Interesting. I don't look at the numbers at all. Like when I was a bowler, I just throw the disc/ball. All th we technical terms just confuse me! If I wanted a ball/disc, I get one and throw it to see if it's for me. Enjoyed the video...

One that stick out in my mind is the star destroyer. Has a -2 turn but every time I threw it backhand it would instantly flip and turn hard left. Didn’t even try to go right at all.

My C-line (Italian blend) FD is a bit more of a beefy boy than I would expect. Its flight is very similar to my neo instinct. My color glow c-line (Italian blend) FD flies straighter than the normal C-line FD.

The (Opto) Ballista is not really T-1, F3, more like T-1.5, F2 whereas a lot of T-1, F2 discs should be T0, F2 imo. But that Odin you tested is... well... its a throller all day long, in both Armor and Storm.

the Discraft Luna was the most disappointing purchase of mine. Flight numbers suggesting a medium amount of glide, and a zone like fade, none of that came true. I have tried quite a few runs, absolutely none of them posses the qualities suggested by the 3 3 0 3 on the stamp.

Flight numbers can be an outright lie. Example: My Innova Archangel (8 6 -4 1) is crazily more stable than my Innova Katana (13 5 -3 3). In this case a speed 13 disc with -3 turn is way more flippy than a speed 8 with -4 turn! That's just wrong. A 52 year old with a weak arm should not be able to make a speed 13 disc turn over this much. The simple fact is you won't know the flight numbers of your discs until you go out and throw them.
