What I really love about Krieg is that he's the first very clear example of how savage Luffy can be. That first punch by Luffy throughout Krieg's spiked cape shows just how much stronger Luffy truly was than Krieg. After that, another one or two shots to the face would've ended the fight. But then Krieg kept bragging about his weapoms and armor and how they made him the best, so Luffy decided he was gonna destroy those things tomshow Krieg that he was just a loser with fancy toys. Luffy chose to destroy the explosive spear by taking it's attacks gead on and eventually breaking it, then did the same with Krieg's armor by focusing on it until he shattered it. Luffy didn't just want to beet Krieg, he wanted to shatter everything Krieg took pride in that he thought made him the best, and he did it all to crush his dream and give him a reality check.

I guess I understand why they cut it, if it was for time constraints but I still wish they could have found a way to incorporate it.
@kingflamedragon33977 ай бұрын
I'm saying this now I truly believe Don Krieg is stronger than Arlong. I also believe Gin is stronger then Kurubie. Unless we talk about a sea battle then I'll give it to the fish men. You have remember that Gin beat Sanji in their fight and still made it relatively equal before taking a hostage. Gin also broke Pearls defense with one shot while Sanji never did. Gin feared Don Krieg. Don Krieg stood up after the final Gum Gum Gavel Luffy hit after several hard shots from Luffy. Luffy was also unconscious after the fight and had to be saved by Sanji. While Gin had to hit Krieg again to drag him away. In comparison Luffy didn't hit Arlong as many times as he did Krieg. Also in terms of strength you have to remember that Krieg lifted that paddle boat that Carne and Patty were using with 1 hand and threw it to the side. Now I'll admit that probably didn't weigh as much as a house,but those house Arlong flipped didn't look much heavier. Don't discount Krieg or Gin just because they lost to the Worlds Greatest Swordman and themselves.

I’d say the “idea” of him is scary, just like the idea of sharks can be scary. Here you have this threat we’re just supposed to be cool with because “that’s how sharks are” and it’s focused on painting it in the worst picture and vice versa like if Jaws *wanted* that reputation. The real threat is how those around him act. Because whether or not it was true before, it BECAME TRUE like a messed up inverted wish. “This is NOT what we *want* this is HOW THINGS ARE!” (When it’s almost the opposite) He’s a paper tiger though because underneath he’s just going off of a very particularly view and his entire effort over 10 years was to turn that into reality. He didn’t train for 10 years to become a threat, he assumed he was one and took pills to make it true. He falls flat because he’s a hollow character. He would have been a cool villain if Fishman island came after Alabasta and we didn’t know any Fishman like hachi or maybe we only knew Caimie but not regular Fishman like Tom and we went in with a notion like “oh wow maybe Fishman really DO hate people!” But instead it’s like we went into Friday the 13th knowing that Jason wasn’t the real killer from the start so nothing to be scared of. My disappointment stems from the lengths Oda went to in order to make him a threat (when as I said we knew the threat was fake all along): large numbers, miscommunication, hostages, Noah. None of which had anything to do with Hody. Had it not been for the SHs he would have gotten to the palace with a paltry force and found a fully armed guard, fortress plus king & princes to contend with. Jinbe could have taken them out solo. The only reason he waited was to give people the impression that some humans were ok. He set up this whole fake threat to counter the fake threat posed by Hody regarding humans. Seems overly convoluted and silly when you think about it. I get why Oda wanted to softball the first arc but still…
@maxojavierrojasurzua57467 ай бұрын
@@Xninja729 That's the thing. Hody felt like an Arlong 2.0 who is a pill-addicted Michael Jackson 2000's looking fishman which for me is a complete random dude doing bad things both to his people and humans just because of what he's heard about the treatment the world nobles have done to his race. The moments that made me stop caring about him anymore as the main antagonist of the Fishman Island arc They were when long before Luffy confronted him, Zoro of all people, was able to knock him out briefly And the second moment was when Fukaboshi asks what humans or his own people did to Hody to make all this chaos to which he replied: "Nothing." What? That's it? You have done all this just... because? Poor villain excuse. And saying that he is a “Result of the environment", I'm sorry but I don't buy that, Oda.

@@maxojavierrojasurzua5746what? Wasn't it like, the most imnportant part about Fishman Island arc? That was the thing that distinguished him from somebody like Arlong, who was exposed to the big cruel world and retalieted in a very unhealthy fashon. This is probably the best depiction of racism in anime that I know of. Kody doesn't have a tragic backstory to justify his worldview, this is not an emotional reaction, this is a delusion. And a very dangerous delusion at that, Kody was never presented as somebody who will destroy humans or who will become a threat to the World Goverment, but he is somebody who will destroy every single thing fishman had by this point in his vain attempts at showing his superiority. A reminder, his plan was to pretend that he became a new Fishman Island ruler to be able to participate in Revery and to kill every single human ruler who will participate there. Do I need to explain whats gonna happen to the Fisman Island and fishman reputation in general if his plan comes in fruition? But Kody doesn't understand that, in his little world fishman are the superior to humans and can take them. He and his gang doesn't lack reason or motivation in his action: they genuinely believe in their cause, its not an excuse for a power grab, its that their belief is empty, that was what that scene was trying to say. They did not reasoned themselves to it and they did not use it as an emotional cope to trauma, they were fed biased information since childhood and then deliberately were choosing to listen only to the information that was confirming their belief. Advanateges to living in this illusion is hard to miss: not only fishman are the master race and anyone else who opposes them are pitiful weak evil human, but also New Sun Pirates in particular are righteous saviours of their kind who will lead them to their destined greatness. Honestly, this is not such a different villain motivation from Enel's god complex.

You can view Don Creek in the grander scheme of things, or you can view him in terms of his role at the point of the story that he appeared in. The latter perspective is how you can see the value in the character.

Both fair and so harsh ha ha. I'm glad you mentioned how well he works in the arc in his role and gave him props for actually pushing Luffy that far. Honestly to me that when he had lost all his fancy armor and weapons that it was a mere net made of rope and his determination to not go down that made him get that double ko, as well as the fact he stood up again; but Gin took him down anyway. Perhaps that shows an example of whem bravery and determination becomes fool hardiness, him still wanting to fight despite being dead on his feet. Could perhaps a Don Krieg arc show how he got to his level of confidence, the actual grit beneath the armor that showed at the end yet he over time covered up with bravado and self importance? I'm just spit balling from your fun and interesting video. Honestly, I'm probably the only one who likes him better than Mihawk. Perhaps it's a little bit of that Cobra Commander energy; a villain made of style over substance fascinates me in some way. Something of that in Spandam, my other favorite villain who I hope ranks a video here still, sorry to beat on that dead horse.

The only thing that would have been worse than running into mihawk after just entering the grand line is running into kiado after just entering into the grand line

Don Krieg needed to get humbled, and I think he would have been a decently competent pirate in the Grand Line had Mihawk not felt bored that day and chased Krieg to another sea. Krieg was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Shame that Don Krieg was given a brief appearance in One Piece live action. Although had he been given more screentime, I doubt he would be willing to cooperate with Arlong who controls most of East Blue as its underground kingpin and would try to defy him.

The conclusion of this video gave me serious whiplash. It was seeming like Liam was giving Don Krieg a lot of credit that most people don’t, but then at the end it turns out it wasn’t that great after all?

I seriously wonder how long Krieg would have lasted if he didn't run into Mihawk of all people. That was pretty much the worst case scenario. We have just now reached a point where "staying alive against Mihawk" is an actual possibility.

Krieg is the perfect example of fake it till you make it He made so many people tremble at the mere mention of his name and was the perfect opponent for Luffy signaling to him that pirates dont fight fair.

The theory I saw that Don krieg is the third son of Don Chinjao and brother of Sai and Boo makes a lot of sense. His self titled nature can be explained by the fact he's calling himself "Don" despite easily being the weakest of the three brothers. Also he just looks remarkably similar to Sai in retrospect.

I am curious how far the Krieg pirates coule have made it in the grand line if they hadnt run into THE strongest swordsman in the world.
@kingflamedragon33977 ай бұрын
I truly believe he could have made it through the first half with him and Gin being Supernovas. However if he never improved I don't see him making it past one of the first islands in the new world. And I don't see Krieg wanting to improve without a major loss worse then what Mihawk gave him which means he probably would have died in the new world.

This is one of the big questions I have: Don Krieg was on the Grandline. The Grandline is a sea which noone can easily enter or leave because of the calm belt. You have to go through reverse mountain. Shanks and Mihawk are different and the marine has its own ways. ok. But how did Don Krieg leave the Grandline?!

I have to love Don Krieg, even though he's not the strongest I just love his design and determination. MF saw Mihawk slice his entire battalion in half and DOUBLED DOWN on going back to the grand line lmao

The Baratie arc has many of my favorite characters like Sanji, Mihawk, Zeff, Don Kreig and Gin, and of course the Zoro and Mihawk fight! This arc also forms important fights for the monster trio. Of course Alabasta would increase tenfold with many more favorites like Ace, Robin, Vivi, the entite Baroque Works agents, even Crocodile himself! Not to mention mentioning of the Whitebeard pirates!

Looking back. With the kind of special weaponry and munitions that Kreig had and knowing in hindsight that Joker(Doffy) & Kaido had the underground arms trade locked down. I wonder if Krieg was supplied by them before his downfall at the hands of Mihawk…

As much of a non-threat Krieg was in comparison to Mihawk I feel like his fight with Luffy was one of the best and most intense ones in the series. It was kind of sad to see him get pushed aside in the Live-action series, despite being just another East Blue pirate I feel like characters like him and Kuro really helped expand on the many types of people that exist in the world of One Piece. Also his Super Attack in One Piece Grand Battle is probably one of my favorite finishers in the game. The fact that he uses a mixture of both fire-arms and heavy hand-to-hand melee weapons makes him really stand out to me. He's like a modern day barbarian/gladiator that just happens to have a pirate fleet.
