Honestly Soundwave did everything a Soundwave should do. Have a Decepticon symbol shaped head, be cool and do some spy or communications work. Is he on screen a ton? No, but he does what's required of him and it's in character. I guess people are upset he doesn't stand around and do nothing like in most other Continuities.

My main gripe with Soundwave in the 3rd film is that his unique head shape for some reason morphed into looking like a generic Decepticon soldier. Due to the time between his appearances, i didn't even know that Soundwave was the disguised car nor the executioner because he looks like a generic throwaway Decepticon, so i thought those appearances were random unnamed Decepticons rather than Soundwave. It's so weird too since Megatron, Starscream, and Shockwave are incredibly recognizable with their Bayformers designs by being super distinct from the goons, but Soundwave without Laserbeak perched on his arm makes it hard to tell he's Soundwave in the 3rd films...because his super recognizable head in the 2nd film got replaced.

Honestly, I find it really smart how Soundwave is the one who wants to execute Bee in DoTM, considering Bee killed Ravage in RoTF, and Lazerbeak earlier in this film. As such, it would make sense that Soundwave would have a grudge against the yellow autobot, which makes it more ironic that Bee ended up killing Soundwave. Instead of avenging his pets, Soundwave became another victim of their killer, like poetry sorta, they ryhme.

Hypocrisy basically. They only liked it because all the characters looked G1, and there were no humans on screen. Meanwhile they forget how good the rest of the BBM actually is.

@@soundwavetheminiconcarrier And that's not saying much when most of the decepticons in the bayverse on MULTIPLE occasions only get a few seconds, if not only 5 minutes of screentime (if not less than that) and don't get alot of personality either despite getting more (by not alot on it's own) screentime. They get more potential to do more than the cybertron decepticons in bumblebee did and yet the bayverse does so little with most of it's cons.... Blackout for example is a iconic decepticon but only because he was the first live action transformer we saw. Not because his personality is so endearing. Add that with the fact he only got 3 minutes of screentime in a 2 hour film...you say liking a character design more doesn't make them a better character which is true, but giving no personality to a character doesn't make a better character either.

@@Jman92854 While I do agree the rest of bumblebee is still good, you literally have fans that will say *insert this bayverse character is better than their g1 counterpart cause they got a better design* and it's not just the bayverse. You have fans saying for ANY character with a non g1 (or even a modified g1) design and they'll say that character is better than their original counterpart. Even of the former has less personality than their g1 counterpart. The hypocrisy goes both ways, it ain't just g1 fans doing it. You got plenty of TF fans born in the 2000s doing it too.

@@soundwavetheminiconcarrier Eh...I gotta disagree, I feel like the 07 film despite not giving most of the cons (except megatron and maybe barricade) personalities (cause most didn't speak aside from saying 1 or 2 things), that film had the decepticons at their most fearsome and powerful. It made them hard and difficult to take down. Tf2 had the cons be easier to take down vs how they were in tf1 and devastator and the fallen? Probably the biggest wasted cons in that entire movie. You had a overpowered con and he was barely a presence in the film, even megatron as a side villain felt more endearing (despite being slightly weaker) meanwhile devastator just....all he did was eat, climb a pyramid, eat some more and die. He could of been a new original combiner and nothing would be different.

Honestly I do like the idea of soundwave in the bayverse films. The idea that he was technically the first ever decepticon to roam earth and that he was there ever since the first film does have a lot of potential. I will admit as well that his cassette tapes, especially laserbeak have some of the more darker and creepier moments in the bayverse films, not gonna lie the scene where he turns into a pink bumblebee to kill an entire family absolutely terrified me as a kid. If the rest of the decepticons had more moments like that, then they would’ve definitely been a lot more memorable as antagonists.

Once again, another great video that does justice to the character featured in it. Bayverse Soundwave did not have nearly as big of an impact on me that DOTM Shockwave did, but regardless, I think he's cool and I agree with everything stated in the video. On another note, your explanation of inference vs headcanon was really insightful. For some background information, I've basically done the same thing you did for Shockwave and Soundwave, but for General Kai, the villain of Kung Fu Panda 3. Kai is in a similar situation where he is generally seen as an underwhelming villain that fails to live up to the previous villains, Tai Lung and Lord Shen. Some complaints about him are that he is lacking depth, the jokes made at his expense make him less intimidating, and he isn't as intrinsically tied to the themes of the movie as the previous villains were. However, by examining every little detail relating to Kai shown in the movie, from everything we see him do and say, to how he conveys and contrasts the themes presented in the movie, I have managed to fully understand Kai and I truly think he is a great and deep villain who is worthy of being alongside the previous villains. I knew my claims and insights weren't headcanons because I was using evidence presented in the movie to support them, but I didn't know exactly what they were. Your explanation of inference helped me understand what I was doing, and it also helped me be more firm in my claims since I was able to more accurately discern the difference between inference and speculation.

He literally dispatched the 1st 3 jets in like 2 seconds🤣 it wouldn’t have been hard to get rid of the other 2 in less time. Leaving scream with the perfect opportunity to target megs in disguise. ( he also gets away with this)… Also notice the difference in how confident starscream is throughout the trilogy. 1st one he’s loud and proud, 2nd one he’s scared because he thinks megs knows what he did. Plus Megatron actually calls Starscream a sycophant in Dark of the Moon which implies that Starscream never betrayed Megatron once. Megatron’s statement in The Last Knight about Starscream being treacherous is poor writing and a retcon. Plus Starscream’s incompetence is a glaring problem. He knew exactly what he was up against and knew how to get under Optimus' skin. Optimus was already starting to put on the brakes before Bonecrusher transformed, Bonecrusher knew Optimus would be bothered with his violent actions. I don't believe Bonecrusher could ever beat Optimus, but considering the amount of damage he could take from the auto-bot leader I bet he would have lasted longer if he had not been so careless and stuck the landing from that fall. Also his claw is just too cool, Optimus had to take cover from it, I think that says enough

34:30 this is my favorite part of your video lol 😂 I LOVED Soundwave the moment he showed up in Revenge of the Fallen, and I thought he was great in Dark of the Moon

I really loved your Shockwave video, and this was just as good. If you do more of these, I definitely think you should do one about Bayverse Megatron

Ye another good video, I never really mind soundwave in the bayverse, he is another one of my favourites and I didn’t mind this appearance of him. And have you heard of that theory that the reason Bumblebee targeted his chest was because that’s where the rest of his minicons would like in the G1 cartoon, I never really bought it. Also do you plan to do another decepticon for your next defence video or will you move on to some of the autobots like the wreckers or any of the aoe autobots

Let’s gooo! Soundwave is anawesome and well written character. The intelligence officer and spy of the Decepticons (and arguably one of the only ‘Cons that is consistent in how efficient and competent he is, looking at *you* Starscream and Knockout…)

Another great video, as expected. I do hope you continue to set the record straight on more misunderstood Bayverse transformers, as there are many others that would do well to have this kind of long-form video devoted to them. If I were to suggest a transformer for you to cover in the future, I’d have to go with Lockdown. His misunderstood nature is quite different from Shockwave and Soundwave as he was the main villain of AOE and got plenty of screen time; rather, I feel his identity is something even defenders of him don’t have a true grasp on, with this surrounding him commonly being referred to as a bounty hunter. I don’t believe this is correct, though I do understand the confusion as characters in the film call him a bounty hunter and he doesn’t call himself anything else. The evidence that points to his true nature revolves around his association with the Creators, which is limited as their plot thread wasn’t followed up on, but there is still enough to come to certain conclusions. One of these conclusions is that they didn’t hire Lockdown, that he is instead their servant. I could go into great detail as to the evidence that supports this, but as I don’t want to stuff an hour long video’s worth of information into a single KZbin comment, I’ll just focus on the fact that there obviously hasn’t been a bounty placed on Optimus Prime with an offer of a reward in exchange for him. Lockdown says to Optimus that he’s been hunting the Knights for centuries, with this hunt leading him to acquire their ship which he turned into his own “personal prison” filled with trophies. Now, since we know practically nothing about the Knights it’s hard to say under what circumstances Lockdown acquired the ship, but what should be questioned is why Lockdown didn’t go after Optimus sooner if he’d been sending messages out to space that other Cybertronians heard and Lockdown could travel to Earth at light speed. There is an answer to this though that comes in the form of Lockdown explaining to Optimus that the Creators want to “sweep their chessboard clean” by having all their creations' lives be “extinguished” as Optimus later describes to the Dinobots. If the Creators wanted all the Autobots and Decepticons dead and they were already at war with each other, then they’d find it in their interest to have this war continue until both sides' forces are effectively depleted and they become easy targets. This connects to keeping Optimus in the fight as without a leader the Autobot faction would’ve likely lost sooner and the Creators’ enforcement branch would’ve had to have contended with more Decepticons in their clean up efforts. It was all a tactical decision made from the shadows, but one question still remains: what is this enforcement branch that hunts down fugitive transformers? Well, I believe the vehicon-like robots that assist Lockdown are part of it, along with Lockdown himself who is just a more specialized model. Lockdown didn’t choose to hunt the Knights, he was ordered to. He even says: “Autobots, Decepticons. Like little children. Always fighting. Making a mess out of the universe. Then I’ve got to clean it up…” Notice how he says “got to” instead of something more casual like “they pay me to” or “I always find myself having to” or something along those lines. This points to him just being another arm of the Creators instead of his own boss, but now I throw it out to you Blotzwave. Does this peak your interest at all?

Great video! Always liked that Soundwave had actual sound attacks rather than just loud as hell noises. One thing to note, in his battle with Bumblebee, Bumbmebee shot off his leg and sent him tumbling into him. So points to Soundwave about to decapitate Bumblebee while missing a limb. Ever thought about doing a “Why you’re wrong about Starscream video”, so people hate on him for being weak in the series. Or a Why you’re right about Galvatron since he’s really just that bad.

A little bit late to the party but as a long-time fan of Bayverse Transformers, I genuinely appreciate that you went through such lengths to defend the prominent characters from these movies, especially the first Trilogy. It was the first Transformers (2007) movie that got me into this franchise and the lore of TF universe as a whole. For a long time, I have heard so much criticism directed toward them that I began to feel sick of it. While I understand their flaws and the hate of classic TF fans for Michael Bay's TF movies, I always feel that such level of contempt is really uncalled for and these movies deserve some love and respect. Classic TF fans can express their negative remarks toward Bayverse Transformers all they want but they cannot deny the MASSIVE SUCCESS they brought to Hasbro and Paramount. In fact, I would say that Transformers wouldn't have come this far without them. After all, no matter how good or popular the classic G1 series or movies are, it won't matter really much if they cannot reach the general audience across the world. Therefore, it is the live-action movies that bring in massive financial success for the franchise to continue.
