One thing that bugged me (which I haven’t seen anyone else mention, so maybe it’s just me?)...is the choice of actor to play Joe as a teen, when he would get locked in the box by Mr. Mooney. They didn’t even try to get someone who resembled Joe. Such lazy casting. It’s not a big role, or all that important, or challenging...so why give it to someone who literally only had the same hair color. I found this incredibly distracting. They should hire whoever cast the music video “Unsteady” by X Ambassadors...now there’s an example of how it’s done.

I think it was to do with the timing. Joe was in the box and for the first time stopped lying to everyone and most of all stopped lying to himself. Yeah. It's the fact that Love knows and accepts who she is and what she's done (which is scary in this context), whereas Joe tries to change and become a "better" person (though not really, he is just deluding himself). Love accepts her dark side and wants someone like her - which is also a bit scary because she is content with what she's done and who she is and wants the same darkness in a partner; Joe hates and is disgusted by his dark side (which is why he is disgusted with Love when he finds out she is just like him - the only difference is that Love CAN accept and love a psycho, Joe can't - because he lives in a fantasy where he imagines this perfect partner that does not exist). Joe's inner monologue might also make him SEEM less scary than Love to the viewer. Objectively they're both scary psychos though :)

I binged season 2 in a weekend lol. I can't wait for more and I'm gonna read the books in the meantime. It would be cool if the writer also released Beck's book for a deeper dive into her perspective and the story in general. The only thing that makes me uncomfortable is seeing women gush over the character in a romantic sense. Joe doesn’t love Love in the end because of two things. One he wants a more ethereal woman. Remember he tells Love his mother was a saint. Although we know that to be false. He really wants the wholesome girl next door type lady. This goes with point two. He wants a woman who loves him because he is a good man. This is what he wants because his mother told him he is good. That he just did a bad thing. She justifies his actions by making it seem like a necessity. You see these thoughts are echoed in both seasons. He can’t love Love because she loves the dark him. The person he is trying not to be. So they are not soulmates but personalities are compatible. It’s not a good fit for Joe because he lives mostly in an altered reality where his actions are minimized and he doesn’t accept ownership of his actions. But the big part is that these type of killers tend to have an order or code which they live by. Her killing Delilah went against his code and made Ellie a target. He doesn’t believe in putting children in danger. He understood that Love’s code is to protect the ones she loves. This meant that Ellie could become a target. Although they are essentially killing for the same reasons they just have different train of thoughts to get there.

It’s just beyond me how psychotic Love is and yet when she smiled in that last scene when she was on the porch you would NEVER think she’s crazy or a murderer. Like AT ALL! With joe it’s kinda there in the eyes and just his face but with her it’s a complete 180 from the first scene we see her in. She just looks like your average LA chick who dresses like a prairie girl and is into those natural food, non-GMO markets (I forget the name). Then when she cries, you start to see a bit of a scary side. She just looks like she could hurt you when she’s sad. And then when she kills Candace she looks terrifying and then she goes to Joe and cries and you’re just left staring at your screen like what the actual fuck. And then she wants to smile at the wedding like she’s normal. Idk she played her role really well. Best season out of the two.

The “neighbor” is NOT another romantic interest and here's why. It’s because of that bubbly song played every time Joe meets a woman he’s attracted to. That soundtrack when he met Beck, when Candace re-entered the library and when he met Love. That sound missed when he saw the neighbor. 100% not a love interest.

So, it made me believe that all Joe wants is to find real true love, and someone who really understands him. Even the dark parts. But after seeing the last scene of season 2 I realized that Joe doesn't want real love, he's just in love with the idea of true love. And the fantasies of how he thinks the women he's attractive to should be.

Honestly I’m glad they didn’t make joe finally have his “perfect family”, we all clearly see that after Love revealed her true self, joe could no longer feel love towards her, as he compares it to his punishment being stuck now with Love. Plus, with his savior complex and underlying needs for true and REAL lasting love, it makes sense that with his ill mind that he’d continue to search for someone to truly fill that gap. It’s interesting though, as I read the comments, a lot of people are saying it looks to be a older woman, either saying it’s his mom (which I find hard to believe) or just someone new, and I think the idea of an older woman is a very interesting take and idea that I hope follows into season 3.
