the biggest fumble to me was that they explained the fact that joe killed the ‘eat the rich’ victims for various stupid random reasons instead of going for the obvious “he killed them because they upset kate”. I mean c’mon. joe’s whole things is he kills people for the girls he’s obsessed with. he could kill malcom because he fancied kate at that point and it could fit with his whole ‘subconscious’ thing. like subconsciously getting rid of competition. he could kill simon because simon was a shitty boss to kate. and then they literally had a scene where gemma was being obnoxious to the staff and Kate was rolling her eyes and looking disgusted, a less stable and subconscious joe could easily justify that kill to make kate happier. I was so shocked when they didn’t go that angle, like idk if it’s because Rhys was technically Joe’s ‘You’ for the season, not Kate. but he was still into Kate and it would fit his MO, and tie into the end better .

Because I can't imagine getting tossed out of a window, getting up like nothing happened, killing someone, going back to lie in the bushes again and then waking up just as Kate screams upon finding the body. 2. When Nadia loses her shit because the cage is missing and screaming about how she didn't know where the woman went. But a while later she tells Eddie that she saved Marienne's life. Was that whole thing just an act so Eddie wouldn't know she helped Marienne? 3. When Roald and Joe was in the basement, who lit the place on fire? It shows Rhys kicking over the lantern, which I thought could be argued away as Joe doing it. But Joe is so far away from the lantern, there's no way he could have knocked it over, especially since he's chained up too. So how did the place catch on fire?

The problem with shows like this is that the writers feel like they need to up the stakes every season to keep the show fresh and interesting, but that also means things become more convoluted and less believable. The first season or two, they could get away with Joe being a stalker/murderer who maybe has a few close calls but is good at covering his tracks on a small scale. But this season and the last are just relying on so many coincidences and lucky chances, that it's not even interesting to watch anymore. Of course Joe happens to only dissociate/hallucinate when nobody else will notice. Of course the woman who seemed to be on to him is actually just a stalker herself and he therefore gets to be the hero. There are so many other moments that I'm not even going to mention, but my point is that by heightening the stakes and the scale, the show is really just losing it's tension, in my opinion.

Every season, there's someone left behind that knows his story. The girl from LA in the apt complex, Maryanne and Nadia. This next season better be his take down because it's gone too far now. About being a scenario, you're right that the character has to evolve etc. But it's better when it's well done. I personnaly prefer something that shows that even being good on some parts of your life and personnality doesn't excuse you for the way you hurt others, so you have to be punished for it, while just punishing someone who is just pure evil is way more easy. To acknowledge and accept the bad part of ourselves, and the idea that we are not perfect doesn't suddenly transform us in one sided cartoon evil character.

I knew exactly how the Rhys thing was gonna go, but the show lost me with Nadia not calling the cops immediately. Like, you've been showing me that this is a pretty smart person. She seems to be Joe's best student, she's helping him with the whodunit stuff. She's smart. But not calling the cops when she finds Marienne makes her the single dumbest character in the entire series. It's insane. Don't listen to the traumatized woman in a box, call the fucking cops and get her out of there. Then there's the logistics of how Joe kidnapped Marienne from a crowded train station and got her back to his apartment in the middle of the day. Or how he got all the materials for his people terrarium into that abandoned basement in what seems to be a fairly busy area. It's all so fucking dumb. I'm gonna watch next season hoping it's the last, just to see how things wrap up, but my buy-in is completely gone for this show

They could've had a really interesting storyline exploring Rhys as Joe's You this season but they fumbled. They still could've had Marienne in the cage, with Joe keeping her there so he can show her he can change just like Rhys did. He'd visit periodically to lament about how the London group (Simon et. al) were asses and deserve to die but he wasn't killing them because he'd changed. But as he gets more obsessed with Rhys and his redemption arc, he loses himself in this You relationship and slowly forgets to hold himself "accountable" to Marienne and this in turn lets him lose focus on remaining "good" until he falls back into old habits and starts killing again for Rhys' sake. But eventually he realizes Rhys fabricated some parts of his story and so that sends Joe into a spiral and he plans to abduct Rhys only to remember he still has Marienne in the cage but when he goes back to kill her, she's already escaped maybe with Nadia's help and there could've been a subplot of how Nadia and Marienne had been building a case this whole time that would expose Joe for the monster that he is and finally we get to see some comeuppance for Joe. Totally could've left out the allusion to DID. But what do I know? Nobody pays me to write movie scripts.

I also tickled when the American told him "What was that?" when Joe's said "I'm fine" to Rhys at the dinner, and I replayed the scene to wonder what the scenarist wanted to tell us at this moment. The whole plans of Rhys were too much luck based and so unlikely to happen, and the app installed on his phone made no sense either as Rhys had no idea he would get away with the murder in the 1rst place and then was surprised he got rid of the body. The only thing that made me highly doubt this theory in the end was the fire in the cave, where Joe himself could have not escaped if Kate did not arrive in time to save him. So it was so stupid coming from him. Also, it's very weird he was at the end of the table at dinner with an empty place beside him.

It's full circle coming back to New York and to be honest it will be a little fun watching Joe go full out for a few episodes without the need to try and make him redeeming. But that will only be entertaining for limited time and if the plan is to show Joe at his most dangerous then spend the the rest of the season taking him down, I'm 100% here for it. Bonus points if Ellie, Nadia, and Marienne go Charlie's Angels on him (won't happen, but a girl can dream). Just as long as he doesn't end up a lumberjack in the Canadian wilderness, I think it could still work. I think you go wrong when you try to understand the reasons for the murders this season. I think the point of the season was to show us that whatever Joe thinks are his motives for killing they are all bullshit. He kills because he gets something out of doing it but has been in denial about it. That's why he keeps finding himself in all these situations where "poor Joe has no choice but to kill someone this one last time". Now he's acknowledged this evil (that is probably based on trauma) about himself and thinks he is now at peace about it. I hope to see this get explored further and would love to see him struggle more with himself and have the story end with him really taking responsibility for all he has done. Although that is probably very unrealistic for someone who has done this much damage. But at least explore things that way.

as someone whos part of a dissociative identity disorder system, the portrayal of the whole "switching evil personalities" is just kinda insulting. I mean yeah, joe himself is evil, but DID is formed as a kid as a survival mechanism. systems aren't evil and won't hurt anyone but themselves, unless its a situation where their life is in danger. so the whole dr jekyll thing just kinda feels like a slap in the face like "oh look at this already highly stigmatised, very real disorder! we're going to make it seem scary or fun or something other people might want to have" when in reality, its sometimes hell on earth. flashbacks, hallucinations, missing chunks of time, trust issues, feeling isolated, and that's unfortunately the tip of the iceberg. even now, with most of our stuff figured out, i still find random injuries i didn't make, or i'll find myself in a dangerous situation out of nowhere, or i'll have very vivid and very real feeling flashbacks to childhood. honestly, media really should stop trying to glamourise or stigmatise DID, because it threatens real systems, and can make them believe they're fakeclaiming, even when they very obviously arent. anyway, annoyed rant at media over, love your content, you're absolutely killing the game (no pun intended), keep up the amazing work! - sparky

My theory is I think they switched writers mid season and that’s why the season was split into two parts (each with different writers). It also explains why some parts don’t make sense. Like the writing in part one was leading us to a potential to have a good part 2 but in reality it went downhill from there.

I do think going into season 5 (hopefully the finale season. Dear god make it stop) Joe is just going to be a full on serial killer or something. At the very least I don't think he's going to frame it or convince himself it's for love or protection yada yada. In final interview scene when he sees Rhys as his own reflection I think this is him accepting he is a complete monster who does in fact take joy in killing. Instead of the separation of Joe who just "accidentally stumbles" into murder and Rhys the sadistic serial killer, he is just one person now.

I loved certain elements of this season. But I didn’t like how any of them worked together or the execution of most of them. And I was severely hoping this would be the last season. I’m sick and tired of them making excuses for joe and letting him get away with stuff so easily Oh, and the marienne episode is fantastic.

In a weird way this show came up with a way to be cancel-proof in a Netflix world because if they cancel it after this season he gets away with pure evil.

i'm just gonna say it now: JOE AND RHYS SHOULD HAVE BEEN HANNIGRAM 2.0 AND THE CREATORS ARE COWARDS. I HATE the whole 'people with split personalities are evil' thing they had going on. It wasn't even accurate to DID. My friends and I watched pt2 together and were just stunned into silence at the end with how utterly horrible it was. just BOOOOO
@ealpacaf.7463 Жыл бұрын
From my knowledge nobody said anything about it being DID. They said it was erotomania or something like that. Yes he was dissiciating but that doesn't necessarily mean he has DID. And from what I saw Joe doesn't.
@wildrodrev Жыл бұрын
@@ealpacaf.7463 He has Erotomania, yes, but the split personality is the problem. Him having an evil 'alter ego' and it all being in his head made it feel cheap and just gross to witness. The show themselves never called it DID but that's what many of the fans have taken away from it and it shows that their execution was truly poor. That's my biggest problem with it, is that everything was sloppy all around. I really liked part 1 of the season, it felt newer than s3, but pt2 just killed it for me. My friends and I sat there in stunned silence at how fast it all went down hill as we binged it. Such a bummer, honestly! :/

I loved the plot twists this season, and the scene of Beck and Love scolding him was just impeccable. But fucking hell this man deserves absolutely nothing that he got at the end of the season, I just wanna see him get arrested or killed already

Sometimes i really love some of the shows and moovies that Amanda doesn´t like (avatar and You) but i really love to hear her perspective and opinion. Thanks alot for your work, i really like your videos. btw Joe and Emily would be a total hit.

My understanding of the ending is that Joe's good guy persona did choose to kill himself, but he had to push his inner killer off the bridge. The killer in him fought to live and made it back up. Never before have we seen Joe kill with a smile on his face, but from then on he's smirking all the way. In his reflection Joe has become the Joker-like Rhys persona who kills unapologetically.

Throwing in not one, but two new psychological conditions just to explain this nonsense is horrible. Mostly because it makes people who reasonably deal with them seem worse

I feel like the dumbed a lot down in this season because they didn't want to glorify the whole easy murder idea, so when Joe disposes of Malcolm it's done in a way that's over the top ridiculous so you're immediately suspending your disbelief whereas a lot of the violence in s1 and others felt real, like too close to home real and I feel like the writers picked up on the fact they've basically made an omnipotent mini hanibal lecter the way he's able to just magically always have the tools to make a new cage, it's like the writers are intentionally making it more ridiculous so people won't think they're glorifying the violence, idk just my take on it
@quaintlyeugene Жыл бұрын
It’s funny you say that, because by the end I felt like Joe had become Michael Meyers smh This thing that appears out of nowehere and does something horrible, then disappears. The antics are getting so out of hand!

I have seen NONE of You, but watched all your videos on it. After watching your part 1 video on this season, I decided to watch the final episodes because I like whodunnits (unlike SOME protagonists). I think my biggest disappointment was Love confronting Joe and saying, "You won't do what needs to be done." And then his subconscious saying "You're not suicidal!" I WANTED the twist to be doing what needed to be done and not taking his life but turning himself in. Straight up going to the police and giving his real name and full list of victims. Ending the cycle by TELLING THE TRUTH. Nadia could even write a bestseller about her professor who ended up being a serial killer. I'm HOPING that Joe just saying, "Nadia's not talking, smart." is him writing her off and she's actually in league with the government officials to take him down somehow. Because with a political canidate being killed, you would think there would be a top tier investigation.

Critically acclaimed show, with its highest overall rating yet as of S 4.5, gets a negative review from a KZbinr with a poster for the crippilingly brutal Spiderman doulogy. Can't tell if it's ironic or weirdly poetic

Thank you! I was so confused. I was on episode 9 and I was like "is this every going to get better?" and then I was looking online for other people's reviews and I was seeing people were loving it. It was so awful. The writing. It was just bad.

The actress who played Phoebe was really good in my opinion. However the actor who played Rhys is always overacting. Didn't like his acting in this and didn't like it in Outlander.
