Only thing you left out is that after your cards are dealt out at the beginning of the turn, you must carefully pick them up and form your hand. Then you must decide if you will keep this hand or turn it 180 and keep THAT hand. No rearranging, whichever way you decide. Great game

Bohnanza is the game I buy when I travel. I own a French Canadian and a Dutch version. It's also one of the few Dutch language games I could find in Amsterdam!

I know I'm probably 2.5 years too late but If anyone's still wondering. The names are just part of the theme of the game and doesn't have any functional use. In Scout you play as a Circus owner, and the cards are the performers, your job as the owner is to find the best ensemble of performers(re:sets of cards) to beat the other owners(players)

I personally really enjoy Scout but I've not had the experience described in the video: I just haven't found it to be a good 'pick-up and play' game with people who aren't big board gamers. I consistently find that with new players rounds tend to be overly slow and quiet, because they can't work out a strategy that seems intuitive to them and end up paralysed with indecision. The extent to which your actions are restricted also makes the game unforgiving to people who didn't quite understand the rules to begin with. Multiple times I've had people suddenly realise they've got the rules wrong and get bummed out because their misconception has totally sunk their hopes of winning. It's also a game I've never NOT won a round of when playing with newbies, which is a pretty bad sign for a pick-up-and-play game. I think it's a great, fun, tricky little game for playing with people who already know the rules, and it's possible I'm just terrible at explaining it, but I've had it land like a damp squib too many times for me to keep trying to intro it to new people. For 'a quick little card game you can play at the pub' I now mostly default to Start-Ups.

I already have the game so came here for the entertainment. Scout is excellent. I'd love to try Photograph, but can't get my hands on it in Australia. Bohnanza was perhaps the second game I played, after Catan, when I got into the hobby. I liked it a lot back then, but now I find it can be a drag due to it's long playtime (it is a negotiation game after all). It takes over an hour to play and after half an hour of it, I'm over it.

Apparently the current version of Bohnanaza is not the same game they released in the past. I hear that the previous version could be played 2 player. The current version is strictly 3-5. It's generally run pretty quickly when I've played.
