The absolute only thing I would change on the MKV is some kind if limited slip diff option. I mean the late models with the TFSI make almost 200lb/ft at 2000 rpm...the car would be a lot faster off the line with better diffs. And to put them in after the fact? Well the extra 3,000 may be worth it but for 3-4k more you could have had a MKVI to begin with which is just a 2009 MKV with a bodykit and electronic diff (which is not great I hear but better than an open diff). All this being said. I fucking love my MKV.

I still have my made in Brazil 2003 GTI VR6 (MKIV, 24v engine)) after now going on 21 years! I bought it new in October 2002 for about 25K, and it has been my daily driver ever since. What an AMAZING car in so many respects! It has been more reliable than any Subaru, Honda or Toyota my family has ever owned (and we've had many over the years), and the fit and finish is akin to an Audi or BMW of that era. Leather, 6-speed manual, and 0-60 in 6.5 seconds... so much fun and satisfying to drive! I've had other VW's that were not nearly as reliable (older GTI's and Golfs), so I must conclude that my 24v VR6 is easily one of the best engines VW has ever made! I just change the oil (full synthetic) every 5000 to 7000 miles (or once a year, whichever comes first), and feed it with Shell V-Power Premium Unleaded. And yes, most of the time it's been garaged, especially in the cold winter and hot summer months. I honestly can say that I won't be too surprised if it lasts me another 10 years or more! Even if I spend 50 or 75K on a new car today, I would bet my life on the fact that there is no way I could find a car as reliable or well made as my '03 GTI VR6! VW totally hit a home run with this one!

mk5 gti has heated leather variants. not just the plaid stuff. Mine came with this. Proabbly the best gti option to have. Plus its a manual aaand its the more reliable tsi engine, not the fsi which many have said is slightly less reliable. Auto is neat, the whole dsg being quicker buuuut cmon, who doesnt want manual. Besides, you can have more fun and take it to the track. Id rather not beat on a dsg/auto.
@MyzteryMedia3 жыл бұрын
Coming from a MKV owner, people just hate the MKV because of how it looks and yet complain about the interior as if every other car from around that time didn't have a similar interior
@DjStiv33 жыл бұрын
@@MyzteryMedia it looks good. Yes stock wise the headlights imo are little too mm bubbly. But you can order different ones or retrofit angel eyes etc. The back looks great, its fairly agressive looking. And if not, theres tons of aftermarket support for everything. The r32 looks eveb nicer. Interior wise its great. Yes its no different than most cars from the time but the fact you have the option to find one between plaid or leather is nice. It has a 3.5mm jack and you can pop in a touch stereo if need be etc. Point is its a fantastic car to build upon. A very nice platform to mess with. Like he says, the gti cars are almost perfect in many ways for enthusiasts. And in terms of a holy triangle in my own opinion.... its got enough power, its reliable and very practical. I do autocross a bit with mine too and have fun.

3 years ago I bought a Mk4 GTI w/ a 2.8L 24v VR6 and a 6-speed manual “02M” transmission for $3500 and it’s been my daily ever since. First mods were exhaust (2.5” magnaflow catback), coilovers (FK Streetline), and new wheels & tires (18” OZ Aristo’s from the Mk4 R32, tires are some kind of Hankook’s right now). Due to how low I went I also had to get new motor mounts and spacers to raise the engine in the engine bay, notch and weld the subframe, as well as replace and reinforce my oil pan (swapped my aluminum one for a steel Mk3 pan and then welded an additional sheet of metal to the bottom). The car now has nearly 200,000 miles on it now (I bought it w/ 130,000) and it’s still running strong and sounds ABSOLUTELY FUCKING INCREDIBLE!! I’ve had to beef up my front axles with Raxles, replace my tie rod ends, lower control arms and bushings, and done regular maintenance to it (oil changes every 4K-5K w/ Mobil 1 full synthetic 5w40, had to replace a coolant temp sensor, etc.) but otherwise it’s been dead nuts reliable and has never left me stranded. The black paint is still looking good considering it’s an ‘03 and almost a 20 yr old car, but I will probably wrap it this summer. Black leather interior is in excellent shape too. I fucking love the car if you can’t tell. If anyone wants to see pics you can check it out on my FB. My name is Evan Acey. I’ve been meaning to upload some newer pics of it over on Instagram but haven’t gotten around to it yet, but FB has them all!!

I have one here in the USA and love it. 2.0 16V, 5 lug plug suspension, 02a transmission, Recaro seats, etc....and still reasonable overseas. Not hard to find examples with no rust either, unlike basically every Mk 3 in the USA. I was always a Mk 2 guy and never owned a Mk 3 (ever) because of all the articles in European Car, Sport Compact, etc... about how great the Mk 3 with ABF was but the US wasn't getting it. low-key debating trading my GTI for an R. I just don't want to do all my mods all over again. 🤦♂️

Depends on what you`re looking for and that`s the beauty of the golfs they have so much to offer from diesel to Vr6 to turbo`s. Gti models are mostly legends bar a few and then you got the R32 and R variants which are even more exclusive.

@@PLr1c3r I’d want an R after my is300. Such an interesting balance of everything that I like and the Vdub community is amazing.
