EA888 engine is highly tuneable and mixed with a DSG can give much more expensive cars a run for their money when tuned and built properly. If you want roll racing go with a GTI if you want digs go for the golf R. Throw an LSD in and the thing corners awesome as well. The former owner messed up the interior pretty bad with some lame mods (reupholstered all pillars and the roof liner, and the meddling shorts out my sunroof) Next step will be wheels and exterior mods, and general "show'n'shine" stuff, then going ham and putting the K04 turbo on it. So twenty-odd years later I get to drive my 90s dream, got a pretty decent unit with just 100K miles on the clock, threw in a new radiator, thermostat, water pump, spark plugs, wires, ignition coil, filters, relays and timing belt. I'm driving it daily and doesn't skip a beat, never had the Check Engine light. Can't wait to get a proper suspension and new bushings, as Alex said they're not super fast/sporty but they make great all-rounders also it's easy to work on them, parts are cheap and plenty.

...love my mk5 GTI. Despite many of the comments online, the engine shouldn’t be rattling and mine doesn’t burn oil either. To be fair I spent a fair amount of pounds on the engine to make it 100% right, the chain tensioner had some play. Now it’s smooth and quite, I can’t hear it at idle. Also the previous owner really took care of it, the interiors look mint, after 13 years, it’s still a nice place to be and a good Car Play radio gives to the dashboard a modern touch (Pioneer...) Dual clima, heated (tartan) seats, cruise control and all, I don’t miss my previous A6 Avant 3.0 tdi quattro (I miss the quattro system a bit and the tiptronic gearbox maybe, but I had to sell it due the ULEZ charges in central London)...overall a good car, fast enough, spacious, comfortable and not too thirsty either. Find one that hasn’t be trashed (not easy I know) look after it with regular maintenance and it will be a reliable companion...and even stock, it does make a great noise especially inside tunnels...touching wood, not engine lights ON yes haha..

Love my MK5, decently quick, comfortable, relatively easy to work on. Just make sure you do your research because there is a ton of small shit that goes wrong that is very easily avoided if preventative maintenance is done. Love it tho, great car for the money

I can't make up my mind between the mk4 and mk5. I kinda like the mk4's look better but I guess the mk5 is better. In your opinion is the mk5 worth the extra cash or should I get the mk4?

My first car was a mk1 cupra fr, which is basically a golf gti but it looks better imo. When I'll start building my is300, I'll probably pick up a mk1 cupra r for a daily, such a beautiful and great car

I have a mk4 1.8t gti and found almost all of this relatable 😂 mine is lightly built nothing special but not stock either. Euro customs stage 2 ecu with 2-step of course 320cc injectors r8 coilpacks cts intake 3 in eurocustoms catless down pipe 3 in straight pipe forge splitter bov. I would define it as quick but not fast. As of right now im at about 280 wheel. Loved it so far

2016 MK7 GTI 2 door :D sitting on some nice 18x8.5 forged wheels with some solowerks S1s, have some light performance mods with a protune and it really makes it come alive. I'm still working on getting the pops and bangs tune though lol

1:30 if anyone wants to know it. That driver is Javier Carracedo, it's famous in Spain for winning rallys to this day with his "old" renault. His driving style it's very unique, It's the spanish ragnotti.

@grandCurator4 жыл бұрын
@@garretttarvin Not really. Classic CEL from something entirely unimportant, aside from that it's on coil overs and ampliforms. Only issue I currently have is one of the strut mounts went bad already cuz I drove too hard :v

Every gti needs a set of rotiforms, straight pipe and 2 step. I have 2 builds, 07 Jetta Fahrenheit GLI and a vr6 mk3. About to put a 3.2 in my gli from a r32 😁 I'll miss my turbo and 300hp but I'd rather hear the wookies

The Mk2 (we called them A2s) came out in 1985 in the US. My best friend had an 84 rabbit GTI (an A1), so maybe the Mk2’s 1983 debut was in Europe? Who knows. Anyway, my first car was an 87 16v GTI, which was rad because a 16v engine was special in 1987 (125ish HP!) and way faster than the 8v version. The A3, sorry, Mk3, came out in 1993 and the VR6 rocked everyone’s world. I’m pretty sure it was with the Mk4 that we started saying mark instead of A. Anyway, I love these cars and I just bought a 2019 GTI and I love it to death. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

I have a MK7 GTI DSG. COBB w/ EQT stage II tune. 3" turboback exhaust, HR lowering springs, Konig Hypergrams, CF spoiler and diffuser, air intake... There is no better car to buy and mod as a daily driver. I swear the 2.0L is indestructible. The mk8 will have ginormous shoes to fill.

@mountainmig49764 жыл бұрын
my first GTI was a MK4 this thing had a ton of lights come on ... EPC light from time to time and check engine drama then I sold it and got a MK4 R32 that car had no issues at all, not even one CEL even with cams a tune full exhaust it went to a ton of track days it was ultra reliable . MY MK7.5 only has 5k on it so only time will tell but this platform is amazing. I am going to buy anther MK4 r32 at some point. then probably a type 3 as a restoration project.

Forget about 2step. The most important thing to do to any GTI is rip out the stock turbo and replace it with at minimum a GT28.
@ab-zo6jt5 жыл бұрын
In my experience, when VW throws a CEL, it's probably something benign like thermostat starting to fail. When another car does it, you better not drive it until you scan it to make sure your engine doesn't blow up.

Had a 2005 Jetta gli with the 1.8 never lose.. loved that car, I built it as a daily/racer(not smart) but by the end of it was pushing 490 to the wheels. The only few issues I seen in them was they are known for burning out coil packs fast. And my issue was I could barely drive it in the rain but that wasn’t the car. That was more the fact of how much power it was pushing with a 12pd flywheel and stage 3 act clutch lol
