I'm sorry, I was the the one who removed the collision on the golden tap. It was used in another level as part of the scenery, and its collision was dodgy.. so i removed its collision and put custom collision in that level. Unfortunately.. i missed the fact that the tap was spawned using our scripting system as a trophy. Sorry.

@Zak Dwyer I think it was mentioned in the video but this is an excerpt from the link Shellshocker shared: "The variable is pulled from a table where it is usually 0x00?? (where ?? is the value expected). Sometimes this value is 0X7FFF though. This causes a problem because that variable is multiplied and added to a variable that is 0x803E0000. This variable in turn is used to load a value, so it was attempting to load a value above 0x80400000. Without an Expansion Pak, the N64 returns 00000000 which is actually the correct response. With the Expansion Pak, the N64 returns the value at that location. Now SSSV does not check for an Expansion Pak and so never clears the old data on the Expansion Pak. The value returned is usually left over from previous games and most of the time is not an acceptable value. "

When I was a kid, I was weirdly obsessed with this game. It was never available at any of the game shops around for purchase, but our local rental shop, Movie Gallery, had it. I rented it over and over again. Eventually, when the shop was selling off all its N64 games, my parents finally bought it for me. Still have that copy, with the Movie Gallery sticker still on it. Looking back, it was very flawed, but it was extremely unique. I guess that's why it stuck with me as a kid. Luckily, I guess the copy there was the second version, because I definitely played it both before and after getting Majora's Mask and the required expansion pak.

Yeah sorry this line almost made it into the final video but I cut it because it sounded really boring when I read it out loud: "This bug was discovered before release but cartridges were already being produced. Using cartridge codes to determine dates, the week of September 28th, 1998, was the final print run of the version 1.0 cartridge. A 1.1 version cartridge began production the next week of October 5th, 1998, and was only released in the United States, so both versions were released simultaneously. The PAL version does not contain this bug fix and only has 2 bytes of data which are different. This is why the glitch was only experienced by some players but not others and became such a confusing occurrence for players."

I'm quite grateful this game has been receiving more notoriety in recent times. It was a genuinely unique and innovative platformer of it's era that actually dared to do something different with the standard, 3D collect-a-thon formula that many games with far greater budgets had effectively become complacent with. The concept of taking over enemies and utilizing their abilities to help you progress further throughout levels was quite an interesting one, albeit bizarre and unconventional. The increased focus on combat and the attention to design with each respective animal's stats helps to prevent the experience from becoming too repetitive. Some animals are swift, but possess weak damage output and low armor, but may attack multiple times or possess a unique ability to compensate for their flaws. There are also slower, more powerful animals with stats reminiscent of a tank, with high damage output and powerful defenses. I can also appreciate that this game's collect-a-thon aspects, whilst still holding an important place on traversing each level, do not oversaturate the gameplay as a whole. I also feel this game's visuals, while basic and low poly, do feature a certain amount charm and quirk that meshes well with it's self aware, satirical style of writing. The levels have a fair amount of detail put into them, and the various robot animals blocky shapes do seem more of a deliberate design choice on the part of the devs to make them appear more robotic in nature. Regardless, most of not all of the animals in this game have a charming feature or detail that helps them to stand out from the rest of their peers, like the helicopter bunnies that drop bombs from the air, or the missile shooting walruses sporting sunglasses. Ultimately, while not flawless, SSSV is a true obscure gem of a game in every sense of the word. If one could look past it's bland visuals and weird concept, you'll have found one of the most unique 3D platformers of it's respective era. Just about anything it lacks in visual spectacle, polish, or firm beta testing, it more than makes up for in personality, humor, and an overall fun, unique experience that stands out from the rest of the big marquee 3D platformers of it's era. I give it an 8\10.

Thanks for sharing so much info on this game! One of my cousins had this game when I was a kid, but as young kids new to gaming we had no idea about how much this game had to offer and for some reason we didn’t even know or use it’s name. I decided to call it “Dogman 64” since all we ever did in the game was run around the “space grasslands” as a dog, and obviously “all” games for N64 had 64 in the title. I only saw the game in small amounts while visiting them, but for some reason my goofy cousins themselves didn’t seem to know much about the game or how to do anything in the game they themselves owned lol. But figuring games out was a lot more obscure back then, especially buying used N64 games. U just got the cartridge, no box, no manual, and no Google or KZbin to help you learn more info lol.

THERES NO WAY MY MAN IS TALKING ABOUT MY FAVOURITE N64 GAME RIGHT NOW!! YES! I rented this game twice as a kid, then forgot about it for 10 years, then spent the next two or three tracking it down.... it is truly amazing. A one of a kind experience on the N64. It suffers from a lot of super hard missions and a few nasty bugs, but there's just no other game like it in my opinion. I'll never forget the journey to find it again, and all the people that looked at me weird when I asked them if they remembered an N64 game where you were a microchip that infested the brain of other robot animals to solve platforming challenges. Finally I typed the right combination of words into Google (on the nthteenth attempt) and saw that beautiful box art. What a moment! It was like a slight headache I'd had for years went away all in one moment. I love this game.

This game is super wierd. I remember trying it out at a local game store back in the day. I didn't buy it though, cuz it was too wierd. Glad you're talking about it. And glad you're back man!!

Lol I remember having a dream the night before I got this game and it was almost like a premonition of the game itself. It was so weird. Universe works in mysterious ways...

I had a dream that Cybershell returned the day before he actually did.

I remember I had a dream where I was playing a game where I was standing on a window and jumped out, then had my character enter a canned "falling asleep" animation during the fall. Like 6 or 7 years later, when I was playing a game I had that exact thing happen to me in the game, just as it played out in my dream.

I remember playing this game as a kid, it was rented on block buster, I was clueless cuz of my no English knowledge but somehow I was still invested and managed to have fun and complete the missions

Geist on the GameCube was possession more specifically, but that's pretty close right? Kind of a jank game at times but I remember it being fun.

it has this awesome concept but tbh I dont think it has aged well. I would love to see a sequal and try to improve on the first games flaws

Wow, I remember this game. I played it when I was like 5. It's 10 years ago and I had fun. I remember in 1 level there is a hyena which is laughing. Thx for the video and for the memories!

I remember renting this once after being curious about it forever as a kid then getting completely stuck on the opening area and never playing it again past that first night.

I loved this game as a kid. In particular I really enjoyed that each stage feels like a sandbox. You have several tools and get to use them to finish the stage. Also the music slaps

I'm glad someone remembers this game.. I didn't even own it my friend did, so I played his silicon valley and loved the game. Except he has absolutely no memory of this game when I tried to show him it. It's like the game just deletes your own memories, I only remembered like 3 things from this game. the music, swapping bodies, the snow level. I did forget about the collectables stuff, floating sheep. And the info you get for each animal that's like a DNA data bank

20:38 Based on that low-quality PS1 port of SSSV, I think that Runecraft deserved to have their Search Results replaced with ,,Runescape in Minecraft" Minecraft Mods.

I used to have my parents tent me this game from our local grocery store chain which rented movies and games at the time. When that service shut down, I bought the same cartridge I used to rent years earlier. I still have it 🙂

Had the game as a kid and I used to play this every time we would go skiing as a family because as a kid I couldn't figure out how to move one in the game so I would try asking my cousin's for help and eventually we would advance. I have fond memories of this game and I'm happy someone is talking about it
