Wow you teach at a faster pace than most, I like your style. Very cool. Here's a shout from NY. By the way I've been playing since I was 11 and I'm now 61.😏 That's 50 years!! You're never too old to learn as long as you play everyday.

I usually write out some tabs on lined paper.. a lot of those hammer on's are very fast and subtle... it's easy to mistake it for just a pull off and it's hard to hear the initial hammer on at first 🤔... hopefully that helps

are you playing through a tube amp or pedal or anything? Pickups in the tele?
@TheSmellyTele3 жыл бұрын
Hey scratchinsota! I use a Line 6 Pod XT Pro for these videos, and I use the "Blackface Lux" model. It's basically modeling a Deluxe Reverb, which the closest I can get to a Princeton using the Pod. Typically I won't use pedals. Pickups are stock, and the tele is a Classic Player Baja 60's Telecaster. I think used the neck pickup and rolled the tone knob back to about 60 or 70%. This takes some of the bite out of the single coils, and it provides a rounder more balanced sound. Happy playing! Never give up the hunt for perfect tone!

Thank you. (the guitar solo requires a little vibrato on the accent notes)

i have a mustang lt25 amp…any chance you know which settings would help me get this sound? i’m pretty close but just can’t quite find it
@TheSmellyTele Жыл бұрын
Hmmm...I'm not too familiar with the amp. It looks like there is a way to select a "Princeton" amp model. That's what you're looking for cuz Chris uses an old Princeton. Gain should be set low, and if it distorts (at all) it should only distort when two notes are played together. Single notes should sound clean. For the Tele tone, I have the neck pickup selected, and the tone knob is probably somewhere between 60 and 70%. Roll the tone knob down until you hear it get dark, and slowly roll it back up until the guitar starts to "brighten" up again. That'll take out some of the Tele's bite and round out the sound. If the tone knob is at 100% it will sound a bit shrill and thin

@@TheSmellyTele dude, let me relate a story…About six years ago, I had a stroke and lost the use of my left hand for about six months. I’d been playing guitar for over thirty years, so I was pretty bummed. I finally have part of my dexterity back, so I wanted to learn this song for my gf, who’s my muse. Your concise, no bs presentation got my attention. I’m still struggling with it, but at least I can make it sound like music. I literally cried. Thanks, brother and rock on

@@TheSmellyTele I'm actually looking at your other lessons now because this one was so accurate and simple to follow. I really liked the slowed down parts to help me really figure it out. Thank you. Next up, I'll likely ty to learn Tennessee Whiskey.. I love this genre. so here are some that are on my list (in no particular order, but I do think there a void in the youtube world for any lessons on Sturgil Simpson's Voices)... Jason Isbell - Alabama Pines Brothers Osborne - Shoot me Straight Sturgil Simpson - Voices Ray LaMontagne - Hey, No Pressure Jason Isbell - Life you Chose Jason Isbell - Anxiety I kinda like Jason ;) Cheers man!
