So interesting. After starting to learn over the summer I got a K15. I am 60kg. Most of my experienced friends said this was a mistake. Over my first winter, when stormy days were out of reach due to insufficient skill, k15 was my go to kite 80% of the days. I learned to ride upwind consistently and do my transitions. Everything was slower so easier to process..every time I took a smaller kite out, the new skills were transferred quickly. I think it was the right move for me. Still my experienced friends say it was unnecessary... Thanks for your opinion on this. It really reflects my path

fave kite is my Crazy Fly Sculp 12m and least fave is 6m. hes right bigger kites are better to learn on and do things. Got a triple back roll on the 12m.

Thats true for a twintip as you can edge very hard, with a strapless directional board I don't recommend to get too overpowered, as it simply drags you off the board at a certain point.

I am 120 kg and have a 2 kite quiver: XR 5 in 13.5, from 14 up to 24 knots and a XR 7 in 10, from 18 up to 32 knots. For a handicapped, old (close to 60 years) fart like me: Enough ;-) I have 3 twintips though.. 150x45, 144x42 and 140x42... I am convinced that the boards make the difference... All are handmade carbon, good stuff...

Personally I like them up to 14m, bigger are getting really slow, especially combined with longer lines. And it seems depend what type you use, don’t have much experience with different brands but I have noticed a big difference in low end performance of the few kites I’ve been able to try.

Hi mike, I rode xr6 10m yesterday and i think the bar is too heavy (sensor pro 2s), the cenário was 18knots perfect wind, i noticed that a turbulence lines sometimes and the flaps are so too, is it normal in xr6 or the kite could has a problem, alsoo toooo slow sending it compared with my rebel and so fast in the air. Hey what’s up. Loved this video and now I’m going to buy a larger core kite. I’m 170 pounds and I’m looking to kite in 14-18mph wind days. My 12M just won’t do it for me. Should I get the 13.5 XR? Or do I need to go bigger to tackle the 13-18 wind range? Also is bigger than a 13.5 probably worse for progressing on tricks?

Thanks so much! It's more like a GTS, but it's higher aspect than a GTS. People do some good riding on it, but I'd go with something more bow/delta if I were you

Yo great tip, when you got to the "accidentally pulling a loop" part on bigger kites, don't they loop harder? Always been hesitant to loop my 12m because I feel like it turns slower and creates a wider loop that's more powerful. Also isn't it stressful on the lines, could possibly rip them? Just wondering, if not gonna start pulling some on the 12.

No they actually loop 'softer' because they're slow and have less power per sqm 😛 #science

I love looping my 12 when it's slightly underpowered for backroll transitions. Sooooo much fun! And when I use my 15 and it's slightly underpowered, I also loop it to be able to do some fun jumps. When those big kites are overpowered, yes they will yank hard in a loop, but you will not destroy the kite or the lines. I just would not try a jump+kiteloop with an overpowered big kite, because you might fall far and hard

Bro, what kite is better for REALLY LOW wind, like 8-10 knots for an 80kg rider? I need to order a new kite from your site, but am hesitating between a 13.5 xr7 or a 15m GTS? I think to have fun in really low wind you need a faster kite to pull loops to generate more power for tricks.. and am afraid that 13.5 xr7 will be too slow.. on the other hand you guys all recommend a 13.5m XR??

Big kites are too slow. Pick up foiling and ride your small kites in light wind. Foiling has been better for my twintip progression than any riding I did with big kites before I started foiling. But hey, this guy has to sell some kites, and while I disagree, nice video.
