The problem with MERN is that it is trapped between two worlds. It is not appealing to the world of big corporations which have large codebases in Java, C# and lately in GO. On the other hand, the world of startups that was primary user of MERN has moved on to newer and flashier stacks like NextJS and "serverless".

You shouldn't switch stacks. Master one and stick to it. They all do the same thing. You risk being trapped inside this paradigm learn a tool oh some KZbin video said this is the new thing now I gotta learn this. Don't be a sucker. There are jobs for MERN. The way you stand out is not by the language you use, but your character, personality. Ability to learn, fit into a team culture. You will learn you master Java spend years on it only to see old big dinosaurs company are using those and to they are all cutting back and in 3 years they will be using ai mostly. The Jr dev positions will be so thin you waster all those years meanwhile you master one craft you already know, you have ability to work freelance work for yourself make projects and find other ways to making money other than the idea of landing a FANG job. If you really want then go get a comp Sci degree and get into AI ML.

Serious question: You say master one thing and do freelance? I'm under the assumption that when you freelance, hiring person usually wants you to do everything. So if you only know Javascript and you don't know, say, SQL, how can you do that freelance work when companies require you to do or know many languages?

@@denniszenanywhere You are free to make any assumptions you want, but your unrealistic assumptions are irrelevant to others. First of all, there are very few freelancers in the real world who can do everything. It's foolish to expect such abilities from someone you don't know well. Im glad someone finally said it. Ive been thinking about this for a long time. Every single portfolio I see from a bootcamp grad or a self taught dev it is just all "MERN MERN MERN". You dont stand out. Everytime I see a bootcamp grad there is no difference between them. It does not matter if you have a nice portfolio or nice projects its just all the same. Everyone has a nice portfolio now in days. What stands out to me is when 1.When I see Java,C# on their tech stack and projects built.(hardly ever) 2.Open source contributions 3.Any kind of experience (Volunteer work,Internships). Otherwise youre no different than the 1000's of other bootcamp devs out there.(I was also someone that did this and noticed no one would notice me)

Great video! Start ups go for that level of interview b/c they don't have the capital to take on many devs, especially entry level. I think the MERN stack is a great gateway to learn the more complex. things. It's still a lot of object oriented programming that you should scale up to the more complex more established languages.

If i go the react pathway, it means i have more competition and would have a harder time finding job since everyone is doing it? But if i pick a niche in what i want (front end), i'd have a higher chance since not many are going for that and what I'll specialize may be beneficial in the long run? For FE, just get really good at the fundamentals and be able to build pixel perfect layouts. When applying for your first job, apply to web development and marketing agencies that are still using html, css and vanilla JS. So think CMS's and maybe some MVC frameworks using templating engines. The barrier to entry is much lower at those places since it's less glamorous dev work. Continue to learn your niche tech as well as the more popular frameworks and you'll eventually have the necessary experience to start working in the cool FE tech.

As a Junior Dev I would say learn react and angular (THE BASICS), then learn how to build API's with .NET and SQL on the backend. OR... learn Laravel with Angular... Talk to all the local companies in your area and find if they build with .NET, do some volunteer work for them to gain experience... The speaker advises against learning the MERN stack for landing a junior developer job. They mention a comment from a viewer who faced challenges in job hunting with a focus on MERN stack in Europe. The argument revolves around the saturation of MERN stack skills in the market, making competition high. The speaker suggests that companies, especially established ones, prefer older, stable technologies like Java and C# for their projects. The recommendation is to consider learning languages like C#, .NET, Java, and technologies such as Spring Boot for better job prospects in the current market.

Well, "ancient" languages also means that there's more competition in that field due to the amount of people who know the language. C# and Java developers experience from linkedin usually starts 5-15 years of experience. If you're entry level, you better have years of experience for those languages.

The numbers don’t matter to much though. It’s not because there are more jobs in Java they are easy to get. Companies are very cautious when it comes to hiring. I think if you are really good at something and you can prove it (and they let you prove it) you can as easily get a job in Node as a job in Java.

All I see on the job boards are Java, python, C#, PHP, etc. Ontop of the fact that nobody seems to want new bootcamp grads anyways, so i feel like I completely wasted my time learning these skills just to get turned down left and right.

Heres my 2 pence (I'm british...). If you're a front-end dev / generally unfamiliar with backends and want to start somewhere, MERN or at least the ER is a good start. If you're familiar with JS, Express should be extremely easy to pick up, and learning how to use and deploy Express is a good start. I chose to learn Express before using Go it's been an extremely easy transition. Personally, I think a good transition looks like: React & Express -> NextJS & Express (ik ik, chill) -> NextJS & Go -> HTMX & Go Thats how I've transitioned. Learn a paradigm in language you know and are comfortable with, then keep shifting slightly each time.

@@Deb_deCoder well I asked myself, ok would I ever build anything like this? Most of Js is in the frontend and your never using pure logic like this. Yes you build components and such. But I'm a newbie and I can say the frontend is a lot but comes down to your rendering data and making this move around. That is not the same at the core as building a app in CLI where it's all logic. So now I still do frontend learning. BUT I'm focusing more on longer term skills Golang maybe Java I see old-school companies are using that tech.

Yes for an internship python is good! But for entry level positions , I’m not too sure. Python is great for embedded systems and data science. I don’t think I see a lot of entry level positions asking for Python + Django much. I’ll have to research that. But for internships yes, Python is a good language, companies usually ask you to know 1-2 OOP languages. I’d suggest being full stack. Front end: React or Angular, Typescript, CSS, HTML Backend: Java or C#, springboot or asp.net, PostgresSQL or MYSQL, AWS for cloud,

That is like saying there will be an oversaturation of C++, Java, Cobol devs. Reason why there is an abundance of frontend devs is because it has a super easy ramp up. Kind of like the early days of Html non-responsive sites. I could be wrong, but C# has been going strong since like 2001 and I figure if the oversaturation was going to happen, it would have happened.
