Just happened to stumble across this video while scanning around youtube. Caught my attention, and I find it very down to earth. Very local and humorous. Good singlish!

Studying overseas as a Malaysian, and watching videos like these still gives me a sense of home, even though it's about Singapore, the accent, and the usage of this language just sounds so familiar to me.
@alexhaowenwong61228 ай бұрын
The accent sounds like me using my Cantonese voice to speak English.

Sounds to you that due to your special background, Singapore military will put you special units that will take advantage of your specialty, Singaporean are very nice people in general, I am sure you will do well there. Take this as an once in a life time experience, really, it WILL broaden your life.

@shadowpal2 It is to mean that whenever some customers buy something from a shop,like that very-expensive toy,or more commonly things like Cameras and things that cost hundreds of dollars or above,they tend to ask if the shop can reduce the price for them.If the price is not negotiable,the customer will ask for something for free to go with the product.For example,I bought a new Camera.Since the price of the Camera can't be reduced,I ask for a free memory card or a pouch to go with the Camera.

1) His office looks suspiciously like a library. 2) I think the management of Lau Pa Sat might have something to say about being referred to as a 'hawker center'. 3) The auntie who the boy gave up the seat to must be pretty mortified that she's considered 'elderly'. 4) These days, finding a smiling S'porean shop assistant is harder than finding a dodo. It's more likely to be a Filipino or PRC. 5) The using-tissue-to-chope-seats gag is older than Lee Kuan Yew.

if you come to Hong Kong, their English there sounds similar to Singaporean English, I think it has more to do with Mandarin/Cantonese being their first language and just learning how to be literate in english after, can't blame them for not being American/English

I'm moving to Singapore in June due to the reason that I'll be 18 by then and have to attend national service. Thing is, I moved to California when I was 4 and basically grew up here. So Singapore is a foreign country to my perspective. I have knee injuries so there's no way I could do military work! Is Singapore a nice place to live? Will people be friendly with me? I'm a bit worried about my situation. Advice would be appreciated!

@slimrxshady Since "contrived" is an adjective and "very" is an adverb, and the rules of English syntax allows an adverb to be in front of an adjective to allow the mean of the adjective to be enhance, I don't see why I can't put "very" and "contrived" together. Does that answer ur question? Anyway, to the producers of this video, I would really love to know what is the ideology behind this video, and what was it meant for? For grading? If so which module is that?

Very realistic picture of the average Singaporean! Found myself identifying with so many scenes. Love the final part too. So many of these little actions go by unacknowledged. Do you think the average Singaporean will tell strangers if they have tissue paper stuck to their shoes though? (Psst, look out for our vid tonight to find out!) :)

It is not a law to give up your seat. Its called courtesy. The reason why they fake sleep is simply because they are guilty of it and they still want to have the seat. Check how old the person is the next time you are in Singapore and spot this problem. Persons i know above the age of 18 don't usually do this.
