The worst part of Sorcery is the lack of falcons for Highland Falconer to search for.

Fingers crossed for an all-falcons set 🦅

I was so delighted to hear the three of you discussing your new parenting journey. I've been watching and listening to Covenant for as long as I've had my kids (now 8 and 11) and so feel like you've been part of my journey too. Best advice I can give, and I really hope you check it out, is to listen to the Pop Culture Parenting podcast. Such an amazing resource for understanding your child's mental, emotional and social development at all stages of childhood. I wish it had existed when my kids were born, but it has helped me so much in the past few years. I think it will really resonate with you guys.

Great seeing you guys back in front of the camera. As much as I miss the daily streams it makes me happy to see all the great new things happening for all of you! As a fairly new father myself I love hearing your own journeys. I’ve never met the TC crew, but just know you have a life long fan in Ohio. Hard to put into words how much I’m rooting for not just TCs success in business but also the teams personal happiness. Enjoy these next few years and I look forward to seeing how TC continues to grow!

i think this is what a tcg needs. I’ve been playing tcg’s for over 30 years and Sorcery is such a breath of fresh air. Every game of sorcery tellls a story and has unique or crazy moments that we remember. i think a bigger deck size adds a different strategy that eventually everyone will figure out. I’m sure in future sets there will be more ways to search your deck for certain cards.

There's a big difference between whimsey and inconsistency. I'm pretty competitive but I've never played a game of Sorcery to win, I've had too much fun along the way. When you introduce a level of pure randomness into a game, you're saying you don't care about the outcome of a match. If that's a problem for most players then I understand.

Steven is my TCG spirit animal for years and I've been more interested in watching TC gameplay than any other coverage of Sorcery by a mile. Where I differ here is I don't think the 'Zachs' of the world stick around with a 100 card deck. I prefer to play with a quick skim through the rulebook and just go for it, having conversations throughout the game. I also 1000% love Erik's vision and appreciate his artistic approach. Even when a few of us were following his FB page years and years ago and we thought the game would never happen, any amount of info he gave us was exciting. Erik has reiterated ad nauseum that this game is designed for casual play but ultimately the customer chooses how to consume the product. For anyone who thinks changes like this are a non-issue, they haven't played Sorcery at a competitive meta level up to this point and likely don't intend to. The issue here as I see it is that Sorcery seems to be growing based on an event-style group of competitive people. I think this will push people out of the game and who knows if anyone takes their place. I would have left the minimum deck size alone and let people play 100 card decks if they felt like it, the way they could have all this time. Beyond the fundamental issue of a finite amount of possible site spots on the board, this just feels like a bad way to avoid banning cards or introducing an official format. Bohemian parents may be fine with letting their kids do anything their heart wants but at some point we need real structure from an official source. Which is why I thought the game was gone once Simon left and rejoiced when he came back. I know this isn't why they did this but you could say, a larger deck means you need to buy more boxes. 24 pack boxes at now 30% more cost per pack kind of all means you need more chaff to fill your deck. Or... Magic is the most popular game and 100 card commander is the most popular format in Magic so maybe it fits better commercially and fiscally to make an arbitrary 100 card deck minimum. That's the super pessimistic view of it but I can see why someone would think that. This change coupled with the seemingly random change to a 24 pack box without notice was a poor move for a new game, especially during what looks like a MTG renaissance. Communication has been the problem from the very beginning and EC is playing this fine line where they 'don't owe their customers company information' but feel free to speak openly on Discord and heavily rely on us for feedback and purchaser stats. This is a 2 way relationship here and I want to know about major changes as they happen rather than a month before. When Sorcery becomes a commercial success and it's in every card shop across the country, then they can tell us to pound sand and do what they want without notice haha. Not to mention that among the rules a creator should never break in a game, splitting your player base this early on with possible formats is crazy. Some day I would love to see EC tossing out emails to backers and anyone who wants an update on the game. Forcing existing and would-be customers to download Discord and root through comments for a blurb isn't an engaging or sustainable experience. Looking at the TC model, getting a text message for notifications is next level.

This feels so true and accurate to my feelings on this, and the care and passion with which you articulated it really gets me. Thank you. Such a clear and balanced stance on the issues.

The fact is that there are posts from 2023 saying that the 100 card deck was the target, so its not like this was sprung. Unfortunately people who thought they were early adopters weren't as early as they thought, as there was lots of prelim info long before the kickstarter that they were not purview to. The game from the start was never envisioned to be a competitive game. If that is what a subset of players want, like Magic they too can create their own format and hope enough people join them to make it viable.
@Monkey_D._ElliottАй бұрын
@@Dstinct The only post I've seen of any sort of notice was one on Discord from 2023. Hardly an open notice to people. My main thing, more than anything, is why not make this a part of the rulebook? Why not make an announcement with beta? Why not make it abundantly clear to anyone checking out your game that they should expect the game to change? It's poppycock to suggest that someone seeing Sorcery and being excited about it and reading all the easily accessible news should have to go into the discord and dig through thousands of post to find this out before they get into it. Star Wars Unlimited make it very clear for their Twin Suns format that decks were going to start smaller and then increase with set 3. That's the easiest thing. The suggestion that we should split formats is wild to me. I thought the idea of Sorcery was to get away from the wide split formats and EDH focus of MTG. To get away from the design and aesthetic of modern TCGs. So saying we should split an already small player base between 40/20 and 50/30 and the eventual 60/40 is the worst thing we can do. Quick additional thought: I don't see dislike of the size change as being a competitive focused opinion, but more as a "This is not what I was sold" opinion. For me, seeing Roots be dominant, I didn't think the answer would be a bigger deck to increase variance, but a larger card pool bringing new equally strong strategies to run against it. Casual or competitive, most adult players will optimize their decks and that's something the designers need to account for.

@@Dstinct Random discord posts do not count, this was 100% sprung (which is my only problem with it - many expensive deck box purchases have been made). This needed to be communicated loud and clear from the beginning. Make a note of it in the rule book, even.

If I could back and live a different life, I absolutely would change almost everything. I spent 24+ years living as a drug addict before coming to faith in the Most High YAH, and being freed from my bondage. I too used to live my life with the motto of one of my favourite jazz songs by Edith Piaf, "No Regrets". No longer. I most definitely have been shown the power of repentance and receiving a new heart, all praise and glory to YaHuWaH Elohiym Most High, for his mercy endures forever. I'm very glad for you both in being so blessed with healthy little girls. May YaHuWaH Elohiym Most High bless you all, and keep you and your new families, safe and sound. Thank you for all your videos and content over many years now.

Welcome back Steven!!! Glad to have all 3 of you back on the regular. Even happier that the new moms and new dads ans new babies are happy and healthy!! Sorcery is such an amazing game. So laid back and more about the fun and cool moments. Increased deck sizes are a little annoying, more from a math perspective. Iliked the 40/20, as 1 deck was 1/2 the size. I wish the increased deck sizes kept those same proportions. But best thing about a game like this, at my kitchen table I can play it however I want. My 1st 2 kids, I went back to work within 1 week. my wife is stay at home mom, we couldn't afford for me to stay home. I was working like 50/60hrs/week. My 2nd was born middle of 2019 so when Covid hit, I went WFH and realized how much I had missed. when my 3rd was born, I was full WFH and my company was trying to pull us back in and I faught to WFH more days for a longer period of time to miss less moments. Prioritizing time definitely becomes more of a chore. My youngest is now 3 and my wife and I finally worked out MTO and DTO (Mom/Dad Time Off) so that we could each regain some sanity and social life. Before that... for me, it was the daily TC streams. You guys all got me through a lot. Made it feel like I was part of a community without having to lewve my house and my wife with all the kids. glad to have the TC stream Team back in action and at full force!!

41:00 See, I always say that if I could go back in time to change things, I wouldn't go back more than a week or so. I would not want to go back to when I was young and change too much because then important people in my life may never have come to be, like my niece and nephew being born, meeting my partner of 8 years. Nothing I could change would be worth losing those things.

I've had trouble finding an answer, but is Sorcery doing an "unlimited" core set? They have alpha and beta, but those imply the sets are unfinished. It'd also be nice if a core set was available year-round so there weren't periods between sets when there's just nothing available.
@udoaver9726Ай бұрын
I believe they've stated entertaining the idea of an unlimited print run after focuses on the next couple of expansions.
