If you use the app you get your boarding passes on you phone and would not have had to go back to the checkin desk and through security in Montreal. Use the app, but take screen shots as backup in case something goes wrong with the app. Also take photos of your bags, and bag tags as backup in case they get lost. If you do have a paper boarding pass, probably good to take a photo backup as well. In my experience the backups are great, and much faster to pull up on your phone!

At Buenos Aires, you would have been given a number of separate boarding passes. You should have handed only the relevant one for the flight you were taking when going through security. They have no business with boarding passes that are for flights outside their jurisdiction. If a piece of luggage is unclaimed somewhere, the airline for flight it was last one is in charge of picking it up from carroussel and entering in the "lost luggage" system shared by all airlines. If there is no report for it already, they will then tag it for a new route for the original destination and enter that in system as well. If there is a report for lost luggage, it will check if destination is the same (report may say to redirect baggage to another city if you aren't staying in original city fro than a day for instance). What did Air Canada say at YUL customs when your bag didn't come out?

In August Driving to Gatwick Airport to catch Easy Jet to Rome. We found the Motorway closed where we would join it! Trying to get where we wanted to go was a NIGHTMARE! The Diversion signs were crap and we kept going round in circles! We left a bit late but still had plenty of time! 2 Sat Navs were useless trying to take us down closed roads! Once on the correct roads, more luck than judgement I was speeding big time to get to the Airport, it was real early in the morning so not much traffic! We were the last 2 to board our plane and the Gate was closed but someone let us on! I had to run to the gate to make them wait for my partner! We could so easily not made our Cruise! You couldn't make up your experience they wouldn't believe you! :-)

We had recent experiences when we were going on a Rhine River cruise. From delayed flights, potential missed connections and a bomb scare in Basel that kept us out in the rain for 7 hours, we made it to the ship with 45 minutes to spare. Our return flight was also delayed, and we were rescheduled, but our bags didn't arrive until the next day. We just roll with the punches.

leaving out of Buenos Aires, one has to be very careful about which airport as there is a domestic airport close to the city and the international airport is an hour further. For reference, we disembarked last Tuesday 1/29 and for $89US per person we got a city tour and transfer to the international airport. We arrived there at noon and waited for a 10:30pm flight (flying standby and made it!).

Someone mentioned they would never visit South America. My husband and I had no trouble and like everywhere else you have to be careful. However we really really enjoyed ourselves down there going from Lima all the way around to Buenos Aires. Its stunning down there. The food is so good. We had the best beef we have ever eaten down there. We met wonderful people on our guided tours through the ship and the scenery through the Patagonia fjords is beautiful. Even walking around in Buenos Aires wasnt a problem. You just have to use your head, stay aware of your surroundings and dont wear anything valuable and like in Europe hold your bag in front of you. Flying to and from wasnt hard and we didnt have any problems at the airports.

things that would have helped. if you have a short connection like 57 minutes, hand carry luggage with you (packed lightly, buy a smaller bag of necessary, and put other stuff in the large bag and take the small bag). print out a copy of your boarding pass and also have it on your cell phone in digital form. whenever taking a flight into or out of a city find out as much as possible about the airport, are there two or more airports for that city and which one are you going to? And then double check with any vehicle that is taking you make sure it is to the right airport. Be Leisurely in your travel -- don't plan three cruises back to back from different port. Give yourself more time for arrivals and departures. Book your own flights, and hotels, unless there's some real reason for the cruise line to book them, and in that case, double check everything, if not, triple check. And finally, sorry to say this, if necessary, hire a good travel agent to help you if it is just too much for you.....
