A true afficenado of the working men's club style. Shane would always prepare for a performance by working his way through five pints of Worthington and a packet of Rothmans.

The most underrated singer of many a year. He hits them notes with pure feeling and can at times reduce me to tears. I have never heard such passion in a voice, the only song that comes close would have to be Long haired lover from Liverpool by young Jimmy Osmond. And the younger generation say we didn’t have good singers way back then, we’ll sit down and listen to this then, and I bet I can guess you will be gobsmacked. It captures Paul at his very best. The look, the strut, the majesty of a singer at the very peak of his career I wish he had covered “ drive “by The Cars.

Everything I've ever read about Paul Shane suggest that he was decent, friendly and considerate of those around him. Not for no reason did he win many accolades as a social club comedian oop north. Personally, as someone who played clubs (In a band - not with wooden cudgels) for a few years, I can say that it's not an easy grounding. It's so easy to criticise...so what if he had an off day.

There's a real warmth in his commitment to the performance in this and whilst it might not be the greatest vocal in the world, you can't fault the fact that he's a really good showman in the club circuit tradition and there are loads of comments on here saying what a lovely, down to earth bloke he was.
