Good mornin Lumnahs. Your building skills are great. Gina keeps a very neat and tidy kitchen but the workshop benches are totally cluttered. You need to build some French Cleat storage for your tools and battery chargers. You could probably knock them out in a day. Keep up the good work. Happy Valentines day.

Hey Al, I was wondering if taking some of the hay/alfalfa that gets dumped on the ground by the goats, would be beneficial for the New Yolk city. By giving the chickens something to pick around in and the such, especially on the icey and snowy days. Just a thought and thanks for the videos.

Love your new coop! Question. Is the wire on the windows standard size chicken wire? I had to switch over to the smaller/tighter chicken wire, as predators tore the original wire. Our neighbors lost their chickens to a bear helping himself through the coop window. I'm still trying to decide how to bear proof our future chicken coop at our new house in the woods. I feel like I need to electrify the building!! My spring raised beds will have the smaller guage chicken wire on the hinged covers. At least you are situated more out in the open...

Good luck on bear proofing! I’m in Alaska. When bears want in somewhere they usually get in no matter what precautions you’ve taken. Gotta find a way to make them scared to come there in the first place. Don’t know what that might be for you...Good luck❣️🧐

Hi Valerie. You are correct, our New Hampshire bears are determined animals! We put off building a coop, as we are finishing our house, which is in the woods...their woods. So far they have visited the compost barrel and I know chickens will attract them. The coop will be situated close to the house. Worst case, we could have chickens at the main farm, which is not too far away. Then our coop would become a garden shed...

I had an automatic chicken door about 7 years ago. It worked great... for a while. Something happened one day, and it failed catastrophically. Instead of opening at dawn and closing at sunset, it opened at sunset and closed at dawn - it was 12 hours off somehow. There was a family of raccoons that had lived on my property for decades - long before I bought the place. That mama raccoon taught her kits how to hunt, and used my flock of 10-week old (or there abouts) Dorking chicks as target practice. All that were left of my beloved special-order meat birds was a few drops of blood. I will never have another automatic livestock door again.

Love your chickens and your set up. My grandmother taught me when snow is on the ground, she used to put cayenne pepper in their mash. I also do hot pepper seeds, with the peppers, kind of cut up. Also, those little packets of hot pepper flakes you get with your pizza, I can't have, so I give to chickens in winter. They sing and lay eggs almost like it was Spring. Love your work! :-)

I guess they get the blues in cold snowy weather too...can't hunt for bugs & such. Really enjoyed watching this one get built. A tip I picked up for that cement glue up you did is to use strips of painter's or masking tape, or A clamps with rubber bands to hold the piece in place. I know the brackets beneath will support the weight but the clamps and tape keep the piece pressed tight so the crack is barely visible. Check out #4, and #5 www.amazon.com/WOODRIVER-Rubber-Band-Clamp-Kit/dp/B003A0FBCY

JB Weld SteelStik would be a good epoxy to use to fill the crack on counter. The JB Weld SteelStik is easy to work with and can be smoothed using putty knife or fingers and a little water just before it hardens it's color would be a close match too. If you sprinkle some concrete on the epoxy you fill the crack with, you can just about hide it. You have to smooth it really well and for color you might want to do a test pallet.

Could you add ash from the wood stove into the epoxy to help color match the counter top? Just clear epoxy will stand out more than the crack does. But maybe epoxy can be purchased in different shades of grey. The main concern would be a smooth and sealed surface to make cleaning it easier. Perhaps add a strip of metal epoxied underneath to help reinforce the edge. I have purchased angle aluminum if you do not mind the metal edge downward on the cabinet about an inch or so and secured. It can be painted to help conceal it.

Why did you use tongue and grove and not plywood solid pieces for your siding walls? Looks nice the way it is- just wondering.

Build some temporary skis for it and use a Jack to put them on and take them off. Just use some old plastic something. :)

You can add a couple of drops of a dark gray or black stain to the epoxy you’re going to use to fill the crack if you want the colors to match a little better. Then once it cures, sand it down flush and reseal and you’re golden.
