tbh its really not a bad buy at all, since a decent mid high-end 65% usually comes at that price range. But the thing is, it's not really that much different from all the other 400-ish 65% board out there. Yeah the design going into this board is insane, but in terms of practicality, it doesnt offer that much enhancement from, say the like of qk65, zoom65 and all.

Thanks so much for this review. I always assumed that the flex cuts would make for a fairly thin/loose sound, so adding foam would be something that could be done to offset that. But then adding foams would negate the flex cuts anyway. Haha. Overall, I think it was a nice experiment but I don't think this is it for me, chief.
@AndyVNguyen2 жыл бұрын
On the build stream as soon as we put on the plate, since there’s no flex cuts the line up with the pcb.. it just has the regular flex of a plate (much less) and the muted sound of flex cuts
@Havesomepizza2 жыл бұрын
This board seems like a great proof-of-concept for the screwless design and the sushi-roll PCB. You can tune a QK65 sound to be pretty similar to this one. Appreciate the honesty in the review as always, Andy!

Great video. Is it just me or is the PCB Foam you mentioned at 6:08 actually Plate foam. I thought PCB foam was the foam that went over the PCB like the PE foam mod
@AndyVNguyen2 жыл бұрын
Pcb foam and plate foam are both names for the thing that goes under the plate. It’s usually thicker. PE foam is what goes directly on top of pcb as a thin layer

To minimize the sound lost to flex cuts, what would be your ideal flex cuts (amount and where at, or per switch and such). I’m personally leaning more towards two or three long, horizontal flex cuts to have a bit of flex, while mainting a good sound signature

half plate no flex cut pcb

great review as always, thank you Andy! and btw, about the 1.2mm pcb requiring shims to put TX Stabs on, i thought TX provides 1.2mm TX Stabs ? i bought them for my friends Ikki68 r2, which also uses a 1.2mm pcb
@AndyVNguyen2 жыл бұрын
I used my last 1.2 on my angle and it was soldered so last second I had to use my 1.6 with shims. You have to plan ahead and buy the right thickness
@Agent_Alpha_SLV2 жыл бұрын
@@AndyVNguyen ouch, yeah i was planning to buy an Ikki68 r2 pcb for my Ikki68 r1 to increase the flex, but due to the multi-layout hotswap sockets, it doesnt have any space to put on the shims, and i dont wanna give up on my Staebies so i'm still staying on R1 for now

Disregarding sound, would you say this keyboard's typing feel is considerably more bouncy/flexy than premium gasket mounted keyboards? I'm 90% sure I want to buy it mostly for the typing feel and look, but I want to be aware of what to expect. Thanks for the video!
@AndyVNguyen2 жыл бұрын
Nope it feels the same if you’re gonna use pcb foam or case foam. The mounting kind of averages out to typical flex after you put the plate on. It’s most flexible when it’s just the pcb lol
@MeoGari2 жыл бұрын
Should I tape flexcut on PCB of keyboards? Will it help making muted boards sound louder and better?
@AndyVNguyen2 жыл бұрын
Yes that typically makes the board louder. Better is subjective and sometimes it doesn’t help. My mod taped ark68 and ended up taking it out because it sounded worse
@MeoGari2 жыл бұрын
@@AndyVNguyen I tried on my board. It made switches sound a bit better but also a little bit like tape mod, a bit poppy and "creamy". Maybe because tape is not hard material, it creates vibration.

is the link65 pcb compatible with other 65% pcbs like the voice or bakaneko pcb? It seems it's greatest weakness is simply the sushi roll and changing it out for a 1.6mm FR4 pcb might drastically change the sound profile.
